    History of Botafogo

    Organizing and merging

Club de Regatas Botafogo was founded on July 1, 1894.

Another club in the vicinity, the Electro Club, was founded on August 12, 1904. The Botafogo Football Club was the first to bear the name.

During an algebra class at Alfredo Gomes College, the idea came. In a letter to his friend Emmanuel Sodré, Flávio Ramos wrote: “Martins Ferreira Street in Itamar is home to a football team. What do you think about starting another one in Largo dos Lees? We can communicate with the Wernecks, Arthur César, Vicente, and Jacques Werneck “..

    The Electro Club and Colors

The Electro Club was established, however, it did not endure long. On September 18 of the same year, the club was renamed Botafogo Football Club, according to a suggestion from Flávio’s grandmother, Dona Chiquitita.

The colors were black and white, similar to those of Juventus FC, the team founded by Itamar Tavares. Baslio Vianna Jr. also designed its badge in the Swiss style with the BFC monogram. Botafogo Football Club would eventually become one of Rio de Janeiro’s most powerful football clubs. They began by winning championships in 1907, 1910, 1912, and other years.

    Merging the clubs

It appeared inevitable that the clubs would unite because they had the same name, the same location, then same colors, and, most importantly, the same fans. They did so after a basketball match between the two clubs on December 8, 1942. However, the notion of a merger was born when Botafogo Football Club player Armando Albano died unexpectedly.

    Speeches after Albano’s death

Augusto Frederico Schmidt [pt], president of Club de Regatas Botafogo, spoke out on this awful occasion: “At this point, I inform Albano that his last match concluded in his team’s triumph. Thus we are not going to use the remaining time on the clock. All we want is for the young warrior to come out on top on this memorable night. We salute him in this manner.”

“Between the matches of our clubs, only one can be the winner: Botafogo!” declared Eduardo Góis Trindade, head of Botafogo Football Club.

“What else do we need for our clubs to become one?” Schmidt declared after that.

Afterward Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas was established. The Football Club’s badge was changed to black, and the monogram was replaced by the lone star of Clube de Regatas.

    On the Field

In 1907, 1910, and 1912, the team won the Campeonato Carioca. The club defeated Mangueira 24–0 in 1909, which is still the best score in Brazilian football history. In 1930, 1932, 1933, 1934, and 1935, they won more state titles.

Heleno de Freitas was the team’s top player in the 1940s, following the formation of Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas. On the other hand,  did not win a championship with Botafogo. In 233 games, he scored 204 goals, but in 1948, he moved to Boca Juniors. Fortunately, it was Botafogo’s 9th state championship year.

In 1957, 1961, and 1962, they also won the Campeonato Carioca. They also won Serie A in 1968, making them the first carioca club to do so in Brazil.

    Breaking the drought

When the club won the state championship in 1989, it broke a 21-year drought and retained the crown in 1990.

Botafogo won the Copa Conmebol (the precursor to the present Copa Sudamericana) in the 1990s. They also won the Brazilian League for the second time in club history in 1995.

After finishing last in the Brazilian League in 2002, Botafogo would be demoted to the Second Division. Botafogo finished second in Brazil’s Second Division in 2003 and was Immediately promoted to the First Division.

    Road to Relegation

For the 18th time, the club won the Rio de Janeiro State Championship in 2006. As well as alongside the legendary players Loco Abreu and Seedorf in 2010 and 2013, respectively.

Botafogo had a dismal performance in the Série A in 2020, finishing in last place. As a result, the club was relegated to Série B for the third time in its history.

Botafogo is the only club in the world to have won titles in three centuries. In 1899, he luckily won the state championship in rowing.

The Rio municipality permitted Botafogo to refer to the stadium as Estádio Nilton Santo between 2015 and 2017. The name honors Nilton Santos, a member of the World Team of the twentieth century as well as one of the greatest defenders in the game’s history.

    The Official naming and development

Botafogo attempted to get the name change made official at first, but was unsuccessful. The stadium was eventually renamed Estádio Olimpico Nilton Santos by the city of Rio de Janeiro in February 2017.

The stadium was closed for repairs after structural concerns in the roof were discovered in March 2013. However, For the Games, the stadium’s capacity was doubled to 60,000 people.

    Joining Botafogo RJ FC

    Botafogo Rivals

The competition’s history has been characterized by rivalries between four of Brazil’s most prominent teams (Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Vasco da Gama).

Many clubs from other states were inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s oldest clubs (America, Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, So Cristóvo, Vasco da Gama).

Fluminense is regarded as the “champion of the century,” having won the most titles in the twentieth century (28). Flamengo is the new century’s leader with 11 titles, with a total tally of 37 titles.

    Its History

    The Beginning

Football was very popular in Rio de Janeiro and Niterói in the twentieth century. Clubs like Rio Cricket and Athletic Association, Fluminense Football Club, and Bangu Atlético Club were formed as a result of this.

The Liga Metropolitana de Football (abbreviated LMF, Metropolitan Football League in English) was established on June 8, 1905. Bangu’s José Villas-Boas was the LMF’s inaugural president, who was replaced by Francis Walter in December of the same year.

    Championship

The championship was tied in 1907 between Botafogo and Fluminense. Ties were however not addressed in the league rules. Botafogo was awarded an extra match. Fluminense, on the other hand, argued that the league should adopt the goal-average criterion. It remained unsolved until both clubs were crowned champions in 1996.

Fluminense, Botafogo, America, Paysandu, Rio Cricket, and Riachuelo formed Liga Metropolitana de Sports Athleticos on February 29, 1908, which organized the 1908 Campeonato Carioca. In the end Fluminense was victorious.

    Splitting the Leagues

    The first split: AFRJ

Botafogo quit LMSA and created Associaço de Football do Rio de Janeiro in 1911, which was the first league split. Because Botafogo was the only important team to challenge the full realization of the sport under LMSA, the league was dubbed Liga Barbante (String League). LMSA was however the first to incorporate AFRJ in 1913.

    1917-1932 (LMDT)

LMSA was renamed Liga Metropolitana de Desportos Terrestres (Terrestrial Sports Metropolitan League) in 1917 after many bribery allegations (LMDT). Fluminense was also the winner of that year’s competition.

    The second split: AMEA

A second league split occurred on March 1, 1924, and the Associaço Metropolitana de Esportes Athleticos (Athletic Sports Metropolitan Association) was established. AMEA was thus created by “aristocratic” groups with membership limitations on blacks and lower-class residents.

From 1924 on, the Confederaço Brasileira de Desportos (CBD – Brazilian Sports Confederation) remained affiliated with AMEA, recognizing it as the official league of Rio de Janeiro and dissociating itself from LMDT. Thus Fluminense won the AMEA competition.

    Winning and quitting LMDT

Vasco do Gama, the only prominent club from the former league, won the LMDT competition. Unfortunately, Vasco quit LMDT after AMEA abolished its racial requirements in 1925. LMDT, on the other hand, persisted with its lesser clubs. The LMDT championship of 1924 was considered official years later, but not the subsequent LMDT championships.

    Joining Botafogo RJ FC

    The league’s union and professionalization

Bangu, Fluminense, Vasco, and America created Rio de Janeiro’s first professional football league, Liga Carioca de Futebol, on January 23, 1933. (LCF).

Brazilian football clubs were professionalized in 1937. FMD and LCF amalgamated on July 29, 1937, forming Liga de Football do Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro Football League), better known as LFRJ. LFRJ was also renamed Federaço Metropolitana de Futebol (FMF) in 1941.

Vasco do Gama and America played a friendly match to commemorate the event. The contest afterward became known as the Clássico da Paz (Peace Derby) for any game between the two teams.

    Carioca Football Federation (CFF)

The Brazilian capital city was renamed Braslia on April 21, 1960. Federaço Metropolitana de Futebol was renamed Federaço Carioca de Futebol (FCF) (Carioca Football Federation) as a result of the rebranding. That year, América won the state title.

    After 1975

Rio de Janeiro and Guanabara state combined on March 15, 1975, to form Rio De Janeiro.

In 1979, there was an additional Campeonato Carioca that comprised the state teams from the countryside. They have only competed in the Fluminense state championship before that year.

In 1996, eight teams (America, Bangu, Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, Madureira, Olaria, and Vasco da Gama) competed in Taça Cidade Maravilhosa, with each team playing each other once.

Botafogo was the champion, with Flamenga coming in second, and a state championship was held the following year.

    Joining Botafogo RJ FC

    The Format

The traditional Taça Guanabara, Taça Rio, as well as the Finals are the three stages of the competition.

    First Stage

The first stage of the competition, Taça Guanabara, divides the teams into two groups. Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense, and Vasco da Gama are the traditional “big four” seeded. It’s possible that additional teams will be seeded as well. The seeding criteria, on the other hand, are not established in the regulation and have never been made public.

Afterward, each team competes in one match against the other teams in their group. However, In the semi-finals, the top team in each group faces the second team; the winners advance to the final match.

    Second Stage

The competition’s second stage is Taça Rio. Teams are split into two Taça Guanabara groups, however, each team plays every other team once. In the semi-finals, the top team from each group competes against the second team from the opposing group, with the semi-finalists competing for the Taça Rio.

    Third Stage

The champions of Taça Guanabara and Taça Rio participate in the Campeonato Carioca’s two-legged finals, with the winner crowned champion.

    Background of Genoa C.F.C

The name of Genoa professional football is Genoa Cricket and Football Club. They discovered the club on 7 September 1893. But, then it was answering Genoa Cricket & Athletic Club. On the other hand, it plays in the Serie A and is the oldest active Italian Professional Football club. Its major focus in the early times was athletics and cricket. Also, they represented England with white Shirts in synchronization to the England home shirt.

There were restrictions prohibiting Italians from being part of the club. But, then Piazza d’Armi served as a platform for Genoa’s activities. Gradually, the aspect of Genoa’s football became solid, credits to James Richardson for playing massive role. With time, they started allowing Italians to take part as they moved to Ponte Carrega. Genoa’s debut match was against a combined team of Internazionale Torino and F.B.C. Torinese. Sadly, they lost the match. But, they won the next one against UPS Alessandria.

    Genoa’s Performance In The Championship

Around the 1890s, they have established the Italian Football Federation and the Italian Football Championship. This helped to strengthen the Italian football. However, Genoa debuted in the Italian Championship against Ginnastica Torino, on 8th of May 1898. It held at Velodrome Humbert in Turin. They went on to win Ginnastica Torino and Internazionale Torino. As a result, they registered their first win in the Championship.

A new season came with a new name, Genoa Cricket & Football Club and a new shirt color, white and blue vertical stripes. Genoa lifted the title for the second time on 16 April 1899. Then, their third title came just a year after. A historic event that took place in 1908 was the action of FIGC, approving the prohibition of foreign players. So, Genoa with other renowned clubs that were not in favour of the development withdrew from the FIGC competition.

After seeing the impact of the decision, FIGC reverted their stand. Therefore, Genoa and other clubs came back to the competition. Now, Genoa reshaped her team with new players like Luigi Ferraris, Daniel Hug and others. Also, they got a new ground in the Marassi area of Genoa. This ground has a capacity of 25,000. It was quite large and spacious. They commissioned it on 22 January 1911, as it is compared to prestigious British stadiums.

    The Club’s Walk Through Europe

At the beginning of the 1985 season, Simoni left the club. Then, Aldo Spinelli replaced him as Genoa’s manager. They couldn’t leave the Serie B in the 1986-87 season. Also, in 1987-88 season, they performed well, but couldn’t leave the Serie B. This lingered until the 1988-89 season, where they piled up their resources to make it to Serie A. At that point, they purchased a good instructor, Osvaldo Bagnoli who brought out the best in the players. They became eventual champions, being top of Bari.

Impressively, they made additional signings like Carlos Aguilera and Tomáš Skuhravý among others. As a result, the form of the team changed. They started performing well, winning big teams and finishing in the top four of the league. This was evident in the 1990-91 season. Subsequently, they qualified for the UEFA Cup in the 1991-92 season. They had a impressive journey through the competition, until they lost to Ajax in the semifinals. Genoa also rose against Liverpool, twice. This made it the first time an Italian side defeated Liverpool at their home ground.

In no due time, their beloved Osvaldo Bagnoli left the club, leaving them in the dreadful state. Due to poor management strategy, they club squad started depreciating. They escaped relegation in the 1994-95 season. But, engaged in a relegation decider with Padova, as both were tied on points. It held in Florence, with both teams proceeding to penalties, after a 1-1 draw. Sadly, Genoa lost and relegated to Serie B. In that period, they won the AngloItalian Cup.

    More Information

As at 1997, a change of the club’s ownership occurred. As a result, the club kept changing managers. This led to a trying time to the club. Consequently, they experienced a lot of financial crisis and relegation battles. Before the club ownership changed, they had a record of three to four distinct owners and chairmen. Now, the current owner of the club is Enrico Preziosi.

    Current Events Of The Club

Genoa managed to stay in the Serie B after the football federation increased the teams to 24. This was seen as controversial as it favoured Genoa. However, they picked up from there and started performing well. Impressively, they won the Serie B in the 2004-05 season. Consequently, they suffered a three-point deduction and a relegation to the Serie C for fixing match with Venezia. Genoa came to the Serie A in the 2007-08 season and finished on the tenth position.

When the summer transfer window was set, the club sold their striker, Marco Borriello and bought prospective players. Then, they qualified for the UEFA Cup in the 2008-09 season. Subsequently, they sold Milito and Thiago Motta to Internazionale. Then, they bought Hernán Crespo. Things fell apart for the club. There were high number of injured players, elimination from the major cup competitions and poor performance in the Serie A league.

In the 2010–11 season, Genoa was still not stable in their performance. Preziosi later left and Davide Ballardini replaced him. Genoa performed a bit better, winning the two legged derby with Sampdoria. But, they still fought against relegation until the 2012-13 season.

The 2014-15 season came with different dynamics. In as much as Genoa qualified for the UEFA Europa League, they couldn’t go. This was as a result of late application of license from the UEFA and low standard of proposed Studio Luigi Ferraris to hold UEFA football matches.

    Foot Note

Genoa celebrated its 125th anniversary on 7 September 2018. It was a beautiful celebration as different groups moved around the city with flags and banners. Such that a banner of a couple of meter was used to commemorate the fall of the Ponte Morandi Bridge.

The Football Ground Of Genoa C.F.C

The name of Genoa’s C.F.C ground is Stadio comunale Luigi Ferraris. People also call it Marassi. They commissioned it in the 1911 as multipurpose stadium. U.C Sampdoria also make use of it as their stadium. As one of the oldest stadium and multipurpose stadium, it hosted rugby games with concerts.

Note, the death of Luigi Ferraris inspired the naming of the stadium as Stadio comunale Luigi Ferraris.

    About Internacional Sport Club

Sport Club Internacional (Portuguese phonetics: [teensjonaw]) is a Brazilian professional football club based in Porto Alegre. It is also recognized as Internacional, Inter (de) Porto Alegre, or merely Inter. They compete in the Série A, the Brazilian league’s top tier, and also the Campeonato Gacho Série A, the Rio Grande do Sul state football league’s first tier. The team’s home stadium, Estádio Beira-Rio (“Riverside”), has a space of 51,300 people and became one of the 12 2014 FIFA World Cup hosts.

The Poppe brothers created the club in 1909 with the stated intention of making it a democratic and prejudice-free society. The team’s colors are red and white, and its supporters are referred to as Colorados. It is one of the most accomplished clubs in Brazil and the Americas, with 7 international trophies the 3rd highest in the country.

Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense is its ancient opponent, with whom it competes in the Grenal, one of the world’s most prestigious derbies.
Internacional is a portion of a huge membership-based sports organization with over 200,000 participants.
Inter’s most fruitful year was 2006, when they won both the Copa Libertadores and the FIFA Club World Cup for the first moment, beating European champions Barcelona in the latter and defending Club World Cup champions Sao Paulo in the former. Inter won the continental title once more in 2010.

Additional notable achievements are the Brazilian league titles of 1975, 1976, and 1979, the latter marking the only occasion a club has held the championship without losing a game, the Recopa Sudamericanas of 2007 and 2011, the 1992 Copa do Brasil, and the 2008 Copa Sudamericana.

    SC Internacional’s Background

    The Club Crest

Sport Club Internacional’s inaugural crest included the initials SCI in red on a white backdrop, without the red contour that would appear later. The colors were however reversed in the 1950s, with the initials inscribed in white on a red backdrop.

Following the team winning the Copa Libertadores, a new star was added to the logo, which is 50% larger and sits above the other 4 stars, which signify the 3 Brazilian titles (1975, 1976, and 1979) and the Brazilian Cup title (1992). Inter, on the other hand, won the FIFA Club World Cup that same year, and the Copa Libertadores star was relocated down between the four stars marking the club’s national accolades, with a new diamond star set above it to celebrate the world championship. Upon achieving the Libertadores for the second time in 2010, he was awarded another star.

    The Steamroller’s “Rolo Compressor”

For the Colorados, the 1940s were a watershed moment. During that decade, one of the finest squads in the club’s history was constructed, earning the nickname Rolo Compressor (Portuguese for “Steamroller”). However, they were a tremendously attacking squad who won 8 Rio Grande do Sul championships between 1939 and 1948. The cause for this dominance dates back to 1926 when Inter began integrating black players into its team, which opponent Grêmio did not do until 1952. That move strengthened the squad, which had no limits and also had the greatest players, and earned the nickname “The People’s Club” in the process.

Also a few of the finest footballers in the club’s history were on that team. Amongst them are Alfeu, Tesourinha, Abigail, Carlitos, and Adozinho. Inter’s ability to “crush the opposition” in their pursuit of wins invented the phrase “Rolo Compressor.” It hence demonstrated the team’s dominance at the moment.

    The Development of the Club

However, the close of the late 1950s saw the start of a period of expansion for Internacional. In 1950, the club renovated their old stadium, the Eucaliptos, to stage two FIFA World Cup games: Mexico vs Yugoslavia and Mexico vs Switzerland. Inter continued to create strong players on the field, providing the majority of the team for the national team that won the Pan-American Games in Mexico in 1956.

On March 1, 1956, the Brazilian Pan-American Games team contested their debut game, hence defeating Chile 2–1. Larry (3), Chinesinho (3), and Bodinho scored goals in Brazil’s 7–1 victory over Costa Rica, which had been the tournament’s biggest shock up to that point.

So Argentina was the opponent in the final. Teté’s men ended their perfect streak with a 2–2 tie at the Pan-American Games in Mexico in 1956. When the squad returned to Brazil, Vice President of the Republic Joo Goulart (a previous juvenile player for the team) paid them a visit in Rio de Janeiro, and the players went to the Catete Palace to accept the medal from the President of the Republic Juscelino Kubitschek.

The Eucaliptos was becoming too small for the big fan following in the 1960s. The construction of a new stadium was required. Fans rallied and donated bricks, iron bars, and cement to help build Beira-Rio. The new Colorado home was dedicated on April 6, 1969, after 10 years of hard effort. The immensity of the terrain was represented in the name: Gigante da Beira-Rio (literally the “Giant on the River Banks” in Portuguese).

    A period of trophies

Maybe no other period in Internacional history is regarded with greater passion and longing by its fans than the triumphant 1970s. Inter became the most accomplished club in Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil throughout that decade. The rebuilt Beira-Rio stadium lived up to the fans’ hopes and was the setting for many of Internacional’s most successful years. The Colorados won the Brazilian championship in 1975 after a stunning victory over Cruzeiro in Beira-Rio. With the so-called lighted goal, Chilean great defender Elas Figueroa scored the game’s sole goal. Also, every Colorado now wore the first golden star on their chest.

Internacional returned to the peak of Brazilian football for the 2nd attempt in 1976, keeping the winning team from the former year. They defeated Corinthians in the final game 2–0 to claim the title. Valdomiro was named player of the game after scoring the game-winning goal. Rubens Minelli’s team won 19, tied one, and lost only 3 games in the 1976 Brazilian Championship.

Another triumph capped the decade. Inter overcame Vasco da Gama 2–1 to win their third Brazilian title in 1979. The team won 16 games without losing, a performance unequaled by any Brazilian club. With this win, the club’s symbol got a third star.

    Intercontinental Internacional

Internacional grew in the 1980s. Internacional got to the final of the Copa Libertadores in 1980, influenced by legends Falco, Edevaldo, and Batista. They were grouped in Group 3 with Vasco da Gama and Venezuelan sides Deportivo Galicia and Deportivo Táchira. Internacional won four games, tied one, and lost one (against Deportivo Galicia). In the semi-finals, Inter was grouped alongside Vélez Sarsfield and América de Cali; again, Inter topped the group with two wins over Velez and two draws against América (which was enough to see them reach the final). Internacional faced Nacional, a 1971 Copa Libertadores champion.

The first leg, played in Beira-Rio, ended 0–0. Inter lost 1–0 in Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario. Having lost Internacional’s most epic game, it established a standard for brilliant scenes in this decade. The team won the Campeonato Gacho four years in a row starting in 1981.

In 1984, Internacional was the national team’s base. In 1956, 8 of 22 national team players featured for Internacional. Internacional’s entire team was chosen to lead Brazil in Los Angeles in 1984. The 11 players, including the goalkeeper, earned silver. “Sele/Inter” was their nickname. Brazil earned the silver award in 1988 after beating Italy and Germany. Inter players Taffarel, Luis Carlos Wink, and Aloisio supported the Brazilian colors. This group helped Internacional finish second in 1987 and 1988.

Inter began 1987 brightly, placing first in their group with 4 victories, 2 draws, and 2 losses. The team beat Cruzeiro 0–1 in the semi-finals. In the finals, Inter fell to Flamengo, which had Zico, Bebeto, Jorginho, Leandro, Edinho, Leonardo, Andrade, Zinho, and Renato Gacho (the championship’s best player).

Inter reached the semifinals again in 1988 upon coming second in their group. Inter battled Grêmio. The Brazilian semi-final implied a farewell to the final and a spot in the Copa Libertadores. “Gre-Nal of the Century” Inter trailed 1–0 at halftime with only eleven players. In the 2nd half, the Colorados recovered from behind to overcome Grêmio with 2 goals from Nilson. Inter lost to Bahia upon losing 2–1 away and tying 0–0 at home.

Internacional began the 1989 Copa Libertadores badly, ranking third in their group with two wins, one tie, and 3 losses. Inter overcame Pearol 1–2 in Montevideo and 6–2 in Porto Alegre in the knockout rounds. Internacional overcame Bahia 1–0 at home and drew 0–0 away to advance to the semi-finals and seek vengeance on the tricolor de aço. Internacional faced Paraguay’s defending champions, Olimpia, in the semifinals. Olimpia won the 1979 Copa Libertadores with Ever Almeida, Gabriel González, Adriano Samaniego, and Ral Vicente Amarilla, all managed by Luis Cubilla. Inter won 0–1 in Asunción and were confident heading home.

Olimpia won the return leg 2–3, suppressing the Beira-Rio torcidas. Inter missed a penalty attempt. But since the total score was 3–3, Olimpia won a penalty playoff 3–5, removing the Colorados. Fans have termed this removal “Beira-disaster.” Rio’s

    Star 4

Internacional did win the Brazilian Cup over Fluminense in 1992. First-leg loss in Rio was 2–1. Antônio Lopes’ team won 1–0 in Beira-return Rio’s leg. The club won by away goals.

    Post Copa Libertadores

Fernando Carvalho chairs Inter sought youth team revitalization in the new millennium. From 2002-2005, the club received 4 state championships. The club upgraded all sections for a new football age. The South American Cup readied the team for the Copa Libertadores triumph. 8 victories, 6 ties, and one quarterfinal loss to LDU Quito. Internacional beat Uruguay’s Nacional and reigning winner So Paulo to claim the championship.

Internacional won the opening leg against So Paulo. Rafael Sóbis scored two times in the 2nd half already when So Paulo’s Edcarlos did score.

Internacional required only a tie in the second leg to become South American winners. Fernando, who did score in the last game at Beira-Rio, was one of 14 players with 5 Libertadores goals. He earned a Toyota Corolla as Man of the Match against So Paulo. Fernando sold the automobile for charitable causes.

Internacional won the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup, defeating Barcelona 1–0 in the final with Ronaldinho and Deco. 2007 Recopa Sudamericana champions. International’s 2007 season started poorly despite its 2006 triumphs. Inter claimed the Recopa Sudamericana by defeating Pachuca 5–2. The team played well but lost 2–1 in Mexico.

Pato scored first. Over 51,000 supporters packed Beira-Rio for Inter’s 4–0 success in the 2nd game, the largest victory in tournament annals.

Inter wins the Champions League twice

Upon winning the Recopa, Internacional found it difficult to replace its 2006 champions. The club ended 11th in Série A, hardly even qualifying for the 2008 Copa Sudamericana. Internacional won the 2008 state title and played in Dubai Cup 2008. Internacional upset Estudiantes de La Plata to win the Copa Sudamericana, and became the first Brazilian champion. However, Internacional returned as Copa Sudamericana champions, placed 6th in the national league, kept their state title, made the Copa do Brasil finals (highest result since 1999), and claimed the Suruga Bank competition. Intel debuted its 3rd outfit, a golden jersey, red shorts, and red stockings, on April 2, 2009.

The golden jersey symbolized past victories. Spurs declared a collaboration in August 2009. The team finished second to Flamengo in 2009 by 2 points. Internacional qualified for the 2010 Copa Libertadores by finishing second.

Group 5 included Internacional, Deportivo Quito, Emelec, and Uruguay’s Cerro. Internacional ranked #1 in their group in 2010 courtesy of Kléber, Alecsandro, Giuliano, and Andrés D’Alessandro.

The Colorados faced Argentine winners Banfield in a 3–3 series that Kléber’s away goal in Banfield won. Internacional met defending Copa Sudamericana winner Estudiantes in that tournament. Internacional won 1–0 although commanding the opening leg in Porto Alegre. In Argentina, Estudiantes were ahead 2–0 when Giuliano, Inter’s top goalscorer, scored in the 88th min to send Inter to the semifinals to face So Paulo in a replay of the championships 4 years previously. Internacional won 1–0 at home amidst leading, while Alecsandro scored the vital away goal in So Paulo to send Inter to their 3rd final.

Internacional earned their 2nd Copa Libertadores following beating Guadalajara 1–2 and 3–2 to win 5–3 on overall.

This win allowed Internacional to contest in the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup to replicate its 2006 success and become one of the handfuls of Brazilian football associations to win the Club World Cup twice. They were removed in the semi-final by Congolese team TP Mazembe, the African champions, in a 0–2 upset that shocked Brazilian sports experts, supporters, and most worldwide soccer watchers.

    Return from Elimination

Internacional had a 14-game losing streak in the 2016 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A despite a promising opening. That resulted in the club’s first elimination, just 10 years after beating FC Barcelona in the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup. Amidst this blow, the club was advanced in 2017 Campeonato Brasileiro Série B.

    SC Internacional Soccer club Ground

Estádio José Pinheiro Borda, also recognized as Estádio Beira-Rio, Gigante da Beira-Rio, or merely Beira-Rio (Portuguese phonetics: [estadiu bejiu], Riverside Stadium), is a football ground in Porto Alegre, Brazil. It is located next to the Guaba River. Also, it replaced Sport Club Internacional’s former stadium, the Estádio dos Eucaliptos, as their home stadium. It was dedicated to José Pinheiro Borda, a senior Portuguese engineer who oversaw the stadium’s construction although passed before it was completed.

The Estádio Beira-Rio was one of the 12 sites for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and it hosted 5 of the championship games.

Through the assistance of the club’s fans and friends, Estádio Beira-Rio was built. They helped by delivering bricks, concrete, and iron to the site.

In the 1960s, Estádio Beira-Rio was dubbed “Bóia Cativa” because it appeared like it would not be finished, particularly given Internacional’s struggles on the field.

Internacional defeated Benfica 2–1 in the stadium’s inaugural match on April 6, 1969. Claudiomiro of Internacional netted the inaugural goal ever recorded in the stadium.

    Juventude FC: The Head Coach

Eduardo Alexandre Baptista (born 30 March 1970), better known by his nickname Eduardo Baptista, is a Brazilian football manager who is presently in charge of Juventude.

    Career

Baptista began his career as a central defender for Clube Atlético Juventus in Campinas, So Paulo. However, his father, Nelsinho, persuaded him to retire from football owing to his outbursts on the pitch.

Baptista joined his father’s Goiás staff as a fitness coach in 2002, after stints with clubs in his home state. Thus for the next nine years, the couple remained together. As a result, they only split because of the Japanese tsunami in 2011, when they were both in Kashiwa Reysol.

Eduardo went back to Sport Recife (where he had previously worked from 2007 to 2009), but Nelsinho stayed at Kashiwa. Baptista was named interim manager on January 31, 2014, after Geninho was fired.

    Career as a Manager

On February 14, he was officially named manager, and he led the team to victories in the Campeonato Pernambucano and the Copa do Nordeste.

Baptista however departed Sport on September 17, 2015, and was hired by Fluminense to replace sacked Enderson Moreira.

Flu fired him on February 25, 2016, after only two wins in six games.

He took over Ponte Preta’s reign on April 15th, replacing Alexandre Gallo.

    First Resignation

Ponte finished seventh in the league, only four points short of qualifying for the continental championship, thanks to Baptista’s efforts. He resigned on December 2, 2016, and fourteen days later signed a one-year contract with Palmeiras.

However, Baptista was removed from his duties at Verdo on May 4, 2017.

On May 23, he was hired as manager of Atlético Paranaense, but on July 10, he was fired.

Baptista returned to Ponte on September 20, 2017. He was also fired on March 9th and took over Coritiba on April 16th, 2018. On the 10th of August, he was fired from the latter club once more.

    Return to Sport

Baptista returned to Sport on August 15, 2018, replacing Claudinei Oliveira and also returning to the club four months after his father Nelsinho left the same position.

    Juventude’s FC League

    Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, or simply Brasileiro, is a Brazilian professional football league for men’s clubs. It is the country’s major football competition and is located at the top of the Brazilian football league structure.

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série B is contested by 20 clubs and runs on a promotion and relegation system. The IFFHS named the competition the best national league in the globe in 2021, as well as the best in South America.

Brazil has a very brief history of national football competitions due to historical characteristics and the country’s huge geographical area.

Taca Brasil and Torneio Roberto Gomes

The first tournaments to be dubbed a national championship were Taça Brasil and Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa.

The Campeonato Brasileiro is one of the richest tournaments in the world, with a value of nearly US$1.43 billion in 2012. It has the most club world champions and the second-most Copa Libertadores titles in the world.

What are the most successful clubs in The Brasileiro?

The most successful club in the Campeonato Brasileiro is Palmeiras. Santos has won the competition ten times, followed by Corinthians and Flamengo who have each won seven times.

After the Premier League (England), La Liga (Spain), and Serie A (Italy), the IFFHS placed the league fourth in terms of strength from 2001 to 2012. (Italy).

Between 1961 and 1965, Santos’ Os Santásticos won five straight titles, a feat that is still unmatched. The state of So Paulo is the most successful, with five clubs winning 32 titles.

    History

The Taça Brasil began in 1959 and lasted until 1968.

Between 1967 and 1970, the Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa was held. The CBF announced in 2010 that they will be considered Brazilian championships.

Due to the postponement of the 1968 Taça Brasil, CBD used Roberto to choose the Libertadores representatives 1968. Following the dissolution of the Taça Brasil, the Roberto was renamed “Taça de Prata” (Silver Cup) by CBD and remained the highest Brazilian title for the next two years.

    Introducing New Module of Play

The top division was renamed “Diviso Extra” (Extra Division) in 1971, while the second division was called “Primeira Diviso” in 1972. (First Division). At the end of each Module, the first two teams would play each other. The national champions and the two teams who will represent Brazil in the Copa Libertadores in 1988 will be determined in this way.

Initially, CBF supported the Club of the 13 decision. However, with the competition already underway and under pressure from football clubs barred from the Copa Unio, the CBF issued a new set of rules a few weeks later. As a result, the Copa Unio was seen as part of a broader tournament that included another 16 teams.

    Rejecting to New Module

Unfortunately, the Club of 13 never acknowledged the new set of rules, and the Brazilian media mainly ignored them. They would rather focus their efforts on the autonomous league.

Sport and Guarani from the yellow module, and Flamengo and Internacional from the green module, were to compete in the final tournament. Flamengo and Internacional, however, refused to participate, hence it never happened. As a result, Sport and Guarani competed for the 1987 Championship, with the first winning. Both, though, went on to represent Brazil in Copa America.

In 1988, the Libertadores have crowned champions.

    Attempts at Championships

Despite Flamengo’s many attempts to obtain ownership of the championship through the legal system, Sport is still acknowledged as the 1987 Champions by both CBF and FIFA.

The champions of both Taça Brasil (1959–68) and Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa (1967–70) were recognized as Brazilian Champions by the CBF in 2010. As a result, there was significant controversy because both competitions were held over two years.

Due to this, Palmeiras received two awards for winning both tournaments in 1967, and both Santos and Botafogo were acknowledged as champions in 1968, as one of them won each event.

    The Format of the Competition

    Competition

The Brasileiro has a total of 20 clubs. Each club plays the other twice during the season (from May to December) (a double round-robin system). For a total of 38 games, they played once at their home stadium and once at their opponents’.

A win earns three points, while a tie earns one point. A loss does not result in any points being awarded. Total points, victories, goal differential, and goals scored are used to rank teams. The team with the most points at the end of the season is proclaimed champion. There are regulations to follow if two or more clubs have the same number of points.

    The Rules

If there are more than two clubs tied and they are not vying for the national title or relegation, the tie is broken using games played against each other:

    a) the number of games won

    b) the total goal difference

    c) the total number of goals scored

    d) the head-to-head record (with the away goals rule in effect if only two clubs are taken into account)

If the tie remains unbroken, Fair Play scales will be used to determine the winner.

    e) The least amount of yellow cards

    f) the least amount of red cards

The Fair Play scales will not be used if there is a tie for the championship, demotion, or qualification to other tournaments. The winner is determined by a play-off match held at a neutral location. Otherwise, the last spots will be decided by a lottery.

    Note

Between the Brasileiro and the Série B, there is a promotion and relegation system. The Brasileiro’s four lowest-placed teams are demoted to Série B, with the Série B’s top four teams promoted to the Brasileiro.

    International competition qualification

Since 2016, the top six clubs in the Brasileiro have qualified for the Copa Libertadores that follow. The top four teams advance directly to the group stage, while the fifth and sixth teams advance to the second round. Depending on who wins the Copa do Brasil, Copa Sudamericana, or Copa Libertadores, the number of teams qualifying for the Libertadores may increase.

Clubs in seventh to twelfth position qualify for the next Copa Sudamericana, though numbers may vary depending on other tournaments, as mentioned above.

    The Club’s Finances

In 2012, the Brasileiro made a total revenue of US$1.17 billion. This makes the Brasileiro the most profitable football league in the Americas, as well as the most profitable outside of Europe’s “big five.”

In 2013, the Brasileiro was also one of the most valuable football leagues in the world, with a marketing value of nearly US$1.24 billion. Every club in the 2013 Brasileiro is worth a total of US$1.07 billion.

    Brasileiro VS Latino

In 2012, the television rights to the Brasileiro were worth about US$610 million. This accounts for more than 57 percent of Latin America’s total population.

Corinthians was the 16th most valuable club in the world in 2013, with a market value of about US$358 million. No Brazilian club appears on the list of the most valuable football clubs as of 2021.

    Media Coverage

Grupo Globo, which distributes live matches for its television stations in Brazil, has bought television rights. Rede Globo (terrestrial and satellite), SporTV (paid), and Premiere FC were the three (through the system Pay-per-view).

In 1987, the first television contract was struck, with only the Green Module of the Copa Unio being broadcast. Only Rede Bandeirantes owned the broadcasting rights in 1990.

After a contentious signing contract between Clube dos 13 and Globosat in 1997, games were barred from being broadcast on pay television. The Club of the 13 had already inked a contract with TVA, a firm that included ESPN Brazil, in 1993.

The Most Memorable moment in the competition

In 2001, however, the competition’s final was highlighted by an unusual circumstance. Vasco do Gama, a finalist in the competition against So Caetano, was featured on the logo of SBT, Brazil’s second-largest television station and a direct competitor to Globo.

This was an embarrassment for Globo, who had exclusive rights to broadcast the final, which was watched by an estimated 60 million people. Despite a strong crowd in attendance for the final match, this edition received mediocre ratings. The Rede Globo was forced to cancel the broadcast of a few matches as a result.

    Goias Fc’s Manager

Jair Zaksauskas Ribeiro Ventura (born March 19, 1979), better recognized by his nickname Jair Ventura, is a Brazilian football manager and onetime forward. He is now Goiás’ manager.

    Life as a Player

Ventura, a forward, was born in Rio de Janeiro and played for teams such as So Cristóvo, Bonsucesso, Bangu, Mulhouse, and Mesquita, as well as teams in Greece and Gabon. He however left at the age of 26 and went on to work for America-RJ and Madureira.

    Coaching career

    Botafogo

In 2008, Ventura did join Botafogo as a fitness instructor. Ney Franco promoted him to assistant manager the next year, and he held the position for the subsequent seasons.

In a 2–1 Campeonato Carioca away victory against Tigres do Brasil on Jan 27, 2010, Ventura took over the first squad as an interim coach.

Upon Joel Santana’s entry, he moved back to his prior post as an assistant. And also led the under-20 group for 2 years before being fired by Bota in 2013.

Following a brief stint with CSA, Ventura reported back to Botafogo in 2015.

On August 13, 2016, he was officially named first-team manager. Hence succeeding Ricardo Gomes, who was on his way to So Paulo.

Ventura’s deal was extended until the close of 2018 on Dec 19, 2016, as Botafogo qualified for the following Copa Libertadores.

He led the club to the quarterfinals of that competition, where they were defeated by ultimate champions Grêmio.

    Santos

On December 22, 2017, Ventura however informed Botafogo’s board of directors that he had signed a contract with league opponents Santos.

He was formally revealed by the club on the 3rd of Jan the next year.

Ventura was dismissed from his responsibilities on July 23, 2018. Following a 0–0 away tie against Chapecoense and with Peixe facing demotion.

    Corinthians

On Sept 6, 2018, Ventura was named manager of Santos’ opponent Corinthians, succeeding Osmar Loss, who had been relegated. On December 3, he was fired, with the club barely surviving demotion.

    Recife Sport

Ventura took over as coach of Sport Recife, still in the top flight, on August 24, 2020, over a year without a club. He kept the club out of demotion. However was fired on April 5, 2021, when the team was eliminated from the 2021 Copa do Brasil and 2021 Copa do Nordeste.

    Chapecoense

So Ventura took over as manager of Chapecoense on May 31, 2021, after Mozart was fired.

He was fired on August 2nd, following 14 games without a victory and with the club in bottom position.

    Juventude

Ventura took over for ousted Marquinhos Santos in front of Juventude, his 3rd Série A team of the year, on October 19, 2021.

He kept the club out of demotion, however was fired on February 11, 2022, following a terrible opening to the new season.

    Goiás

Ventura was hired manager of Goiás, which is likewise in the first league, on April 14, 2022.

    Private life

Jairzinho, a onetime Botafogo player and also 1970 FIFA World Cup champion, is Ventura’s father.

    Série A Brasileiro Campeonato

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (Portuguese phonetics: [kmpjonatu brazileju sii a]; English: Brazilian Championship A Series), often known as Brasileiro (Portuguese phonetics: [brazilejw]; English: Big Brazilian), is a professional men’s football competition in Brazil. It is the country’s major football tournament and is located at the peak of the Brazilian football league structure. With the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, it is competed by Twenty clubs and also runs on a promotion and demotion basis. The IFFHS named the tournament the best national league in the globe in 2021, as well as the best in South America.

Brazil however has a very brief overview of national football tournaments attributable to historical characteristics and the country’s huge geographical area. Taça Brasil was formed in 1959 as a result of developments in civil aviation and air travel, as well as the requirement to select a Brazilian candidate for the inaugural edition of the Copa Libertadores. The Torneio Rio-Sa Paulo was enlarged to incorporate teams from other states in 1967, resulting in the Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa, which was also regarded as a national event. The first event officially recognized to as a national championship took place in 1971, albeit it was only known as “Campeonato Brasileiro” until 1989.

The Brazilian Football Confederation proclaimed the victors of national competitions from 1959 to 1970—Taça Brasil and Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa—official winners of the Brazilian championship or winners of Brazil (not champions of Brasileiro or Série A) in 2010.

The titles of old games are equal to the title of Série A in Brazilian championship annals, however the contests are cataloged in the records with their main names (while being distinct contests, they grant the same honor).

The Campeonato Brasileiro is one of the world’s most powerful leagues, with ten club world winners and 20 Copa Libertadores titles among ten clubs. Following the Premier League (England), La Liga (Spain), and Serie A (Italy), the IFFHS placed the league fourth in terms of strength from 2001 to 2012. (Italy).

The Campeonato Brasileiro is the most popular football league in the Americas and one of the most widely aired in the globe, with coverage in 155 countries. It is also one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, ranking sixth with a value of over US$1.43 billion and a revenue of over US$1.17 billion in 2012.However in all, 156 clubs have competed in the Campeonato Brasileiro from 1959.

17 clubs have claimed the Brazilian football championship, with 13 of them winning the title several times. Palmeiras has won the Campeonato Brasileiro the most occasions, with 10 titles, trailed by Santos with 8 titles, Corinthians and Flamengo with 7 titles each. From 1961 – 1965, Santos’ Os Santásticos earned 5 straight titles, a record that is still unmatched. The state of So Paulo is the most prolific, with 5 clubs winning 32 titles.

    Background

The Taça Brasil began in 1959 and lasted until 1968.

From 1967 – 1970, The Roberto Torneio Gomes Pedrosa was contested. The CBF hence declared in 2010 that they will be considered Brazilian championships.

Due to the postponement of the 1968 Taça Brasil, CBD used the Roberto to choose the Libertadores representatives in 1968. Upon the dissolution of the Taça Brasil, the Roberto was renamed “Taça de Prata” (Silver Cup) by CBD and retained the highest Brazilian title for the following 2 years.

After Brazil’s third FIFA World Cup victory in 1970, president Emlio Médici decided to improve the organization of Brazilian football. In Oct 1970, at a meeting with the CBD and club presidents, it was resolved to organize a Brazilian championship for 20 teams the subsequent year, modeled after national competitions in European countries. In 1971, the “Campeonato Nacional” (“National Championship”) was staged for the first time.

“Diviso Extra” (Extra Division) was given to the top flight, whereas “Primeira Diviso” (First Division) was given to the newly formed second tier.

CBF stated in 1987, only weeks before the Brazilian football tournament was to commence, that it would be unable to arrange it. As a consequence, the 13 most famous football clubs in Brazil formed The Clube dos 13, a league to arrange their own tournament. Copa Unio was the name of the competition, which was organized by the 16 clubs who ultimately participated (Santa Cruz, Coritiba, and Goiás were asked to participate). Originally, CBF supported the Club of the Thirteen resolution.

But, weeks afterwards, with the tournament getting underway and under criticism from football clubs who had been removed from the Copa Unio, the CBF established a new series of regulations that included the Copa Unio as part of a wider competition with another Sixteen teams. The Copa Unio would be renamed the Green Module of the CBF championship under the new regulations, while the other Sixteen clubs would compete in the Yellow Module. Finally, the national champions and the 2 clubs who would serve Brazil in the Copa Libertadores in 1988 would be determined by a match between the first two teams from each Module.

But, the Club of the 13 never acknowledged the new series of regulations, and most of the Brazilian press focused their concentration on the independent tournament, which was finally claimed by Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. Sport and Guarani from the yellow module, and Flamengo and Internacional from the green module, were to compete in the final tournament.

Flamengo and Internacional, though, declined to participate, hence it never happened. As a consequence, Sport and Guarani faced off, with the former claiming the Championship in 1987 and the latter representing Brazil in the Copa Libertadores in 1988. Despite Flamengo’s many attempts to obtain custody of the championship through the legal system, Sport is still acknowledged as the 1987 Champions by both CBF and FIFA.

In 2010, the CBF agreed to acknowledge the winners of both the Taça Brasil (1959–68) and the Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa (1967–70) as Brazilian Winners, causing some dispute because both contests were conducted over a two years period, so Palmeiras was honored twice for winning both in 1967, and both Santos and Botafogo were acknowledged as winners in 1968 because each contest was won by one of them.

    Layout of the tournament

    Tournament

The Brasileiro has a total of Twenty clubs. Each team faces each other two times (a double round-robin format) during the span of a season (from May to Dec), one at their home ground and one at their rivals’, for a sum of 38 matches. A win earns 3 points, while a tie earns 1 point. A loss does not result in any points being awarded. Overall points, wins, goal differential, and goals made are used to rank teams. The team with the most points at the close of the season is proclaimed winner. If 2 or more clubs have the same number of points, the following conditions apply:

    • If a draw exists between more than 2 clubs that are not vying for the national title or demotion, the draw is resolved using matches played between the clubs:

    1. The majority of matches were won
    2. the difference between the total number of goals scored and the total number of goals scored
    3. the overall number of goals scored
    4. Head-to-head record (if only two clubs are considered, the away goals rule applies). • If the draw remains, the champion will hence be chosen using Fair Play measures.
    5. The least amount of yellow cards
    6. The least amount of red cards. • In the event of a draw for the contest, demotion, or qualification to other tournaments, the Fair Play scales will not be used; instead, a play-off game at a neutral location will be used to determine rank. Alternatively, the last spots will be decided by a lottery.

Between the Brasileiro and the Série B, there is however a promotion and demotion process.

The Brasileiro’s 4 lowest-placed teams are demoted to Série B, also with the Série B’s top 4 teams advanced to the Brasileiro.

    International tournament Eligibility

From 2016, the leading 6 clubs in the Brasileiro have qualified for the Copa Libertadores that follow. The top 4 teams advance straight to the group phase, while the 5th and 6th teams advance to the 2nd round. However ased on who gets the Copa do Brasil, Copa Sudamericana, or Copa Libertadores, the count of teams eligible for the Libertadores may rise.

Clubs in #7 to #12 make the cut for the next Copa Sudamericana, though figures may vary depending on other tournaments, as mentioned previously.

    HSK Zrinjski Mostar

In Mostar, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, there is a professional football team called HK Zrinjski Mostar. The team competes in Bosnia as well as Herzegovina’s Premier League. Over the past few years, it has also been among the best teams in the nation.

Zrinjski is one of the best and most successful football clubs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, having won seven championships in the Premier League of that country.

Stadion pod Bijelim Brijegom in Mostar is where the club plays its home games. Ultras Mostar is also Zrinjski’s supporter. In 1994, Ultras Mostar was established.

    The Oldest teams in Bosnia

The oldest football team in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the club was established in 1905 by young people from Croatia.

All clubs that had taken part in the Croatian league during the conflict were outlawed in Yugoslavia following World War II. One of them was Zrinjski. From 1945 through 1992, there was a ban.

    Herzeg-First Bosnia League

After Bosnia and Herzegovina gained independence, the club was reorganized. Before joining the Premier League in 2000, it competed in Herzeg-First Bosnia’s League.

Zrinjski celebrated winning the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s first championship in 2005.

The football team is currently a member of the athletic organization Zrinjski Mostar.

    Its History

    The Early Beginnings

A group of prominent Herzegovinians from Mostar came up with the idea to start the Hrvatski Sokol youth sports organization in 1896. (Croatian Falcon). This was however prohibited at the time. However, in 1905, Croat youth under the direction of Professor Kutreb were successful.

How did the name come about?

They established the “Aki Portski Klub” with the aid of the cultural organization Hrvoje (Student Sports Club). However It changed into Gimnazijski Nogometni klub Zrinjski in 1912. (Gymnasium Football Club Zrinjski). It was given the Zrinski name in honor of the illustrious Croatian nobility.

They competed in some of their initial games against the Sarajevo sports team, Osman. Games ended 0–3 and 2–1 respectively. Ivo “ori,” a club activist and player, began reporting about the club at that time.

The emergence of a New Club

The club was outlawed in 1914, at the start of World War I. A new club called “Hercegovac” was founded by Zrinjski and another Mostar-based Croatian sports organization. Jure Zelenika, Nikola Paladi, Miroslav Prpi, Mirko Vlaho, Ante Pavkovi, and Kaimir Zubac were some of the HROK players.

They competed against teams from all around Herzegovina, Bosnia, and Dalmatia as well as other Mostar teams like Vele and Vardar. With lights borrowed from the nearby mine, they also participated in three nighttime games at that time.

    Ban and World War II

Following the Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia in 1941, a fascist puppet state known as the Independent State of Croatia was established. Zrinjski joined a football league after it was admitted to FIFA when it was also established.

Zrinjski also played some historically significant games in the league versus Graanski Zagreb.

What was the last game before the club was outlawed?

Zrinjski played Jedinstvo in 1943, defeating them 2–1. As a result, it was likely the last before the club was outlawed. The Yugoslav Partisan’s resistance movement had vanquished the Independent State of Croatia by the end of World War II. Zrinjski was also one of the clubs outlawed in 1945 for serving as vehicles for nationalist ideology.

    Restoration

Zrinjski played only friendly matches for the first two years, mostly in Herzegovina and Croatia but also in Canada and Germany. Bla Slikovi and Slaven Musa, who had previously played for FK Vele Mostar, were two of the famous players at the time.

The club played in the league for the top clubs throughout the course of seven seasons as a member of the Herzeg-Bosnia Football Federation. Clubs from Bosnian-Herzegovinian and Serb-ruled regions of the nation joined the Premier League for the first time in 2000.

    Joining Zrinjski FC Academy

    Debut Match

Zrinjski also made his debut in a UEFA competition during the summer of 2000. They competed in the Intertoto Cup against Västra Frölunda IF of Sweden. Zrinjski had a lead after 90 minutes in Mostar but lost the first game in Sweden 0–0. Zrinjski added a second goal at the start of extra time.

As a result, they obtained the outcome that would advance them to the next round. Vastra Frolunda advanced on the strength of away goals, although the game ultimately finished with a 3–2 Zrinjski triumph.

    The New Era

With a roster that featured some of the top players in the nation, including Zoran Rajovi, Duan Kerkez, Velimir Vidi, and Sulejman Smaji, Zrinjski Zagreb won the Serbian Superleague championship in 2004.

The squad unexpectedly lost to Luxembourg team F91 Dudelange in overtime and suffered a 4-0 home loss to exit the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The main objective of Zrinjsi’s board members was to elevate the club to the top tier of Croatian sports clubs before the club’s 100th anniversary in 2005.

    Competitions

Zrinjski qualified for the Intertoto Cup due to their third-place position in the 2005–06 season. It acquired former star player Zoran Rajovi during the winter break on a free transfer.

Additionally, they defeated FC Vaduz 5–1 overall in the UEFA Cup first qualifying round. They won the Premier League for the second time in 2008–09 under the leadership of striker Kreimir Kordi. From 2009 until 2018, Zrinjski dominated the Serbian Premier League, winning three consecutive league championships.

The team competed in the second round of UEFA Champions League qualifying, drawing NK Maribor.

    Beginning of Defeat

ZrinJSki won their third Premier League championship overall and first since 2004–05 after a season-long title fight with NK Hiroki Brijeg, FK Sarajevo, and themselves. Unfortunately, the team fell to K Slovan Bratislava in the aggregate.

Zrinjski was defeated by the Bulgarian team Ludogorets Razgrad in the third round in 2018. Additionally, by the Cypriot team APOEL in 2020 and the Swedish club Malmö in 2019.

    Rise from Defeat

It’s interesting to note that the team was led by Croatian managers Ante Mie and Hari Vukas during its first two European “campaigns.” Mladen iovi, a Bosnian manager, oversaw Zrinjski in the third.

Under the leadership of manager Sergej Jakirovi, the team won the league championship for a record seventh time in the ensuing 2021–22 season.

    Rival Clubs

    Velez

The other primary football team in Mostar, Vele Mostar, is the major adversary of Zrinjski Mostar. Similar to the Sarajevo-eljezniar derby, the Mostar derby is fiercely contested.

Due to Zrinjsi’s suspension for participating in the fascist league, no games between the opposing teams were played in the 1930s and 1940s. On August 13, 2000, the Premier League of BiH hosted the first-ever match between the two teams.

    Fan Base

The two fan bases that each side has are as follows:

    • HK Zrinjski supporters: Ultras Mostar
    • Supporters of FK Vele include Red Army Mostar.

Both fan bases continue to symbolize racial separation. As a result, Bosniaks make up the majority of the Red Army and almost all of the Ultras. The two fanbases’ same ethnicity causes ferocious altercations during the Mostar derby.

Additionally, their competition is made worse by the fact that some extreme Red Army groups are right-wing inspired while others are left-wing inspired.

    Others

Sarajevo clubs Sarajevo and eljezniar are two other noteworthy rivals of Zrinjski. Along with Zrinjski, these storied teams are perennial favorites to finish at the top of the standings. The fact that Mostar serves as Herzegovina’s capital is another factor contributing to this rivalry.

However, Sarajevo serves as both the nation’s capital and the geographic center of Bosnia. The other best team from Herzegovina, iroki Brijeg, is also a rival of theirs. Beginning in the Herzeg-Bosnia league (1994–2000), this rivalry carried over to the Premier League. The Herzegovina derby refers to the games between Iroki Brijeg and Zrinjski.

    Joining Zrinjski FC Academy

    Supporting Clubs

Ultras Mostar is the name of Zrinjski’s principal fan club.

The Ultras-Zrinjski Fan Club was formally established in March 1998. At that time, the Citizens’ Associations Act was recorded in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton’s Registry of Citizens’ Associations. But since 1994, it has existed as an unregistered support group.

They support all facets of the Zrinjski sports club, although they primarily support its football division.

When did they receive their current name?

Six years after Zrinjski’s work was restored, in 1998, they received their current name. They adopted the moniker of the European football-based Ultras Movement.

“Gori brate” is the official song of Ultras, a group of HK Zrinjski Mostar supporters. From the stands, they cheer on Stajanje, their team. Black, white, and red are the colors that Ultras employ on transparencies and boards.

    HSK Zrinjski Mostar Stadium

Stadion pod Bijelim Brijegom is where Zrinjski plays its games (English: White Hill Stadium).

Up until 1991, city rivals Vele used the stadium, which was constructed in 1971. 9,000 seats are available in the stadium right now (former 25,000 standings).

However, some games in the 1970s and 1980s drew more than 35,000 people. After Asim Ferhatovi Hase Stadium in Sarajevo, it was the second-largest stadium in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

    Who owns the Stadium?

A soccer field owned by the City of Mostar is called Stadion pod Bijelim Brijegom, also known as HK Zrinjski Stadium or simply Bijeli Brijeg Stadium. It is situated in the Bosnian and Herzegovina city of Mostar. HK Zrinjski Mostar presently resides there.

There are now 9,000 tickets available.

    Location

The stadium is located in the heart of the city, next to Bijeli Brijeg, on the Neretva River’s western bank.

    History of the Stadium

Mostar was divided into two halves during the Bosnian War, with the western (Croatian) and eastern (Bosnian) halves centered on the Neretva River.

Heavy wartime damage was done to the stadium, and clashing philosophies and interests carried over into the post-war period.

The forcible eviction of FK Vele Mostar from its home stadium at Pod Bijelim Brijegom and the ensuing political and public disputes regarding stadium usurpation were manifestations of this political climate.

When did the stadium stop being the Club’s home?

From its construction until 1992, Pod Bijelim Brijegom was home to FK Vele Mostar. During the club’s heyday, when they won the competition’s Yugoslav Cups in 1981 and 1986, they were at their best. Additionally, the team had previously been to the UEFA Cup quarterfinal round in 1974–75.

    Where is their new home?

People associated with the Vele Mostar club, fans of this cult team from all across the former Yugoslavia, and prominent figures, including a number of Croatian intellectuals, continue to call for Vele to play in its original stadium.

These pleas have so far been ignored by the local government, which frequently uses political and security concerns as justification for keeping Vele’s homecoming from happening. The 1995-built Roeni Stadium is where the club now plays.

What is the importance of the Stadium?

After Kosovo Stadium in Sarajevo, Bijeli Brijeg is the second-largest stadium in Bosnia & Herzegovina. Stadion HK Zrinjski (also known as HSK Zrinjski Stadium) is the new name that the club HK Zrinjski administration gave the venue for matches played under the association’s auspices.

This name change was registered with the Football Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On February 27, 2021, Zrinjski defeated Krupa in a league game, his first game in command.

    His First defeat in Zrinjski

On March 10, 2021, in a Bosnian Cup matchup against Sarajevo, Jakirovi experienced his first defeat as manager of Zrinjski.

Jakirovi led Zrinjski to a 4–0 victory over Sarajevo on April 16, 2022, securing the team’s record-tying seventh league title seven rounds before the season’s finish.

    HSK Zrinjski Mostar League

The Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the country’s most prestigious level of football competition. It is contested by 12 clubs with the last two teams relegated at the end of every season. The League is, as of the 2021–22 season, represented by four clubs in European competition.

    History

    War Period (1992-1996)

Bosnia and Herzegovina clubs quit the Yugoslav First League after Yugoslavia’s dissolution; the league ceased to exist after the 1991–92 season. No games were played in the 1992–93 season due to the commencement of the Bosnian War in 1992. The 1995–96 season marked the return of competition held under the aegis of N/FSBiH.

    After the War (1996-2000)

Up until 1998 and 2000, Bosnia & Herzegovina had three distinct football leagues. FIFA and UEFA supported the union of all three organizations as N/FSBiH.

Because they only supported associations that were supported by officially recognized state entities both during the war and after the Dayton Peace Agreement was signed. Additionally, this resulted from FIFA’s decision to recognize N/FSBiH in July 1996.

However, UEFA accepted N/FSBiH the same year and did not recognize it as a full member until 1998. As a result, only N/FSBiH clubs and its national team were eligible to compete at the official international level.

    Combination of the Rivals

Since the end of the 1990s, N/FSBiH and its rival, Premier League BiH (Premijer Liga), have been combined. The idea was to include teams from three different organizations for the first time, but the Serb association refused it.

Thus teams from the Croat football association participated in the playoffs for the seasons 1997–98 and 1999–2000 instead.

Due to the Croat’s association’s uncertainty on the choice of stadiums in which games should be played, the 1998–1999 playoff was called off. Before a complete and binding agreement on a combined N/FS biH and Premier League in the fall of 2000, the playoff for the next season was resumed for the last time.

    Premier League (2016-2019) Liga 12

The format of the BH Telecom Premier League was completely altered between the 2016–17 and 2017–18 seasons. Thus, the number of clubs is decreased from 16 to 12.

Due to the amended calendar and the addition of playoffs and play-out, it was occasionally referred to as “Liga 12” (League 12). Each club participated in a certain number of regular-season games before moving on to the playoffs or playing out, depending on their standing.

    Playoffs

The top 6 clubs in the regular season competed in the playoffs. With each club playing the other twice for the championship, which ensures qualification for the Champions League, second and third place ensures qualification for the Europa League.

Six clubs competed in a play-off to stay in the league, with the bottom two teams being demoted.

    Outdated format as of 2018–19

The league has not been played as it was the previous two seasons since the 2018–19 season.

Since the 12 clubs play each other twice, it is actually quite straightforward. both at home and away. However, they play each other three times, alternately playing at home and away depending on the schedule.

As a result, the league season now consists of 33 complete rounds rather than 22 rounds, plus an additional 10 rounds for the playoffs and championship matches.

    Sponsorship

The Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina and BH Telecom agreed to a two-year sponsorship agreement for the league on July 31, 2012. Thus, the league is effectively renamed BH Telecom Premier League.

Before the 2014–15 season began, the contract was renewed. The new league sponsor for the following three years, Mtel, with an estimated 23 Million BAM worth, was revealed on July 24, 2020. Hence, the league was renamed m: tel. First Division

    About CR Belouizdad

It is fully known as Chabab Riadhi de Belouizdad, which means Sporting Club of Belouizdad in English. People also refer to the club as Chabab Belouizdad or CR Belouizdad or simply CRB.

CRB is an Algerian association football club that is based in Algiers in Algeria. It competes in Algerian football top tier, Ligue Profession Elle 1. The club holds a record of 55 seasons in the top flight. They spent only the 1988-89 campaign in the second tier.

On 15 July 1962, just ten days after the independence of Algeria, the club was formed. The Widad Riadhi de Belcourt and the Club Athéltique de Belcourt merged to form the club which was initially called Chabab Riadhi de Belcourt. The 20 August 1955 Stadium have served as the club’s home ground since foundation. The home strip which has also been used since foundation is a white with the red trademark “V” on the front.

CR Belouizdad has won 10 major trophies in 8 seasons during the 1960-70s and has produced many outstanding players. As a result, they are known as a major force in both Algerian and Maghrebin football.

The club has won the domestic league title and the Algerian Cup eight times, two Algerian Super Cups, one Algerian League Cup and the Maghreb Champions Cup a record three times. These winnings established the club as one of the most successful Algerian clubs.

    More Information

The league was reformed to professionalize the Algerian Football in 2010. As a result, the club acquired professional status. Merely three years after their formation, CRB won their first title of champion of Algeria  at the end of the 1964-65 campaign.

Madar Holding Group bought 67% of the 75% of the shares held by the amateur sports Club (CSA), chaired by Karim Chettouf. As a result, they have been the majority shareholder of the share capital of the sports company by shares CRB “Athletic” since 15 October 2018. Mohamed Belhadj have chaired the board of directors since 22 September 2021. He replaced Mohamed Abrouk (who held this post after Charaf-Eddine Amara was elected President of the Algerian Football Federation on 16 April 2021).

Meanwhile, it was agreed that the new DG Hocine Yahi will oversee everything related to the sport component and the Chairman will have a purely administrative mission. On 30 March 2021, Yahi agreed to this position and replaced Toufik Korichi. Marcos Paquetá replaced Zoran Manojlovic and has managed the senior team since 23 September 2021.

The club’s local rivals are MC Algiers, NA Hussein Dey and USM Algiers. CR Belouizdad FC has been and is still one of the most popular football clubs in Algeria.

    Background

CRB parent teams ‘Widad Riadhi Belcourt’ (former club of the rue de Lyon) and the ‘Athletic Club de Belcourt’  were known for playing football competitions in the French colonial era. In Addition, they were both affiliated to the ‘FFFA’ (French Football Federation) and the ‘FLOT’ ‘(Algiers Ligue de Football Association). I believe you are still following up on how to join CR Belouizdad Fc Academy.

The Events Between 1963–1972:- The great Chabab

Particularly during 1963-72, the club has been successful and has done well generally since it’s inception in Algerian Football. The great Chabab won 10 titles in 8 seasons during this time, a record yet to be broken till date. The popular red and white colors worn by the best players in Algeria or Africa and also constituted the pillars of the national team of Algeria was worn by players. Some outstanding players are Lalmas (who was chosen as the best Algerian player of all time after a survey conducted by the Echibek sports weekly in 1993 including votes from more than 350 technical people from Algerian coaches to players), Kalem, Achour, Selmi and several others.

The aim of the team in its first Championship season (1962-63) was adaptation and coordinated team work. They were led by then chairman Mr Boukida Djeloul and coached by Yahia Saâdi. CRB was in the group of Bologhine and Bousmail in this season. They were satisfied to secure a place allowing it to compete in the centre of the championship.

    The Second Quarter

All belcourtois and environs loved and supported CRB by even raising funds in this period. The big traders of the time; Boukida gentlemen, Bouhelal and Khemissa and others were among. The means for the club’s policy was offered as a result of these generous contributions.

    The Third Quarter

CRB executives started recruitment after collecting the necessary funds. Targeted recruitment and quality resulting in the arrival of experienced and promising players such as (Zitouni, Paris Club), (Madani and Djemaâ USM Alger), (Zerar Hamam El-Enf, Tunisia), (Nassou and Amar Ain Beniane), (Koussim ES Setif), (Achour and Lalmas OM Ruisseau) and (Kalem IR Hussein-Dey). The teams growth to one of the biggest clubs in Algeria is attributed to the sacrifice of these noble leaders who were driven solely by love of the team.

An average performance was recorded with losses against MC Oran (3–2), Batna (1–0), Constantine (1–0), Sidon (2–1) and MCA (2–1). CRB leveled up and destroyed every team in it’s path the following season, in 1965–1966. They recorded 9 consecutive victories starting with a victory against ASM Oran (0–1) during the 14th day and overwhelming wins (8–1), (8–0) and (4–1) respectively against MO Constantine on 20 August (halftime 0–1 for Constantine), Annaba and ES Mostaganem. They made an impossible comeback, moving from last place to first. Let’s proceed more on the topic “How To Join CR Belouizdad Fc Academy”.

The Events Between 1965–1966: The Club’s Outstanding Season

They registered victories (16 wins) this period lined with Prime Algeria. Their victories included big scores (0–4) in Blida and Oran to the MCO and 5–2 before the NAHD with a percussive attack that also called the Machine Gun Attack. They recorded 63 goals that season: (Lalmas 18 goals, Chanane 14, Kalem 13 and Achour 8), making 53 goals amongst themselves. In addition, they beat RC Kouba 3-1 to win their first cup of Algeria.

CRB recorded an average season in 1966–1967 and despite the acquisition of Selmi Djilali, the 1967-68 season was not any better. This was caused by the CAN 1968 tournament in Ethiopia where 9 Chabab players participated. They returned suffering from built up fatigue and injuries. They also experienced some errors in a late championship match against ES Guelma. CRB went trophy less for those two seasons.

The club regained form and went back to winning ways on the appointment of Ahmed Aaran as player-coach. They recorded big important wins against NAHD (7–1 and 5–2) in the 1968-69 season.

The Events Between 1969–1970:- The Club’s Ever Hat-trick

The club recorded it’s first hat-trick in the history of Algerian football and went on to win their fourth championship. The championship was won uniquely because they lost only a match; against MC Oran Oran (3–1). It was the club’s best season ever. They went on to beat USM Alger 4-1 in the Algerian Cup final and defeated Sfax(Tunisia) in the Maghreb Club Champions Cup. CRB recorded a memorable win against Senegalese Joan of Arc 5-3 in the first leg. As a result, they secured entry into the African Cup of Champions Clubs after previous threats of reprisal.

    The Events Between 1970–1971

CRB had to win the North African Cup to save the season after a draw and a win against MC Alger and a defeat against MC Oran. Also the Algerian Cup defeat against CS Constantine on penalties (this ended 48– 47 and is the official record Algeria, another one!). Tunisia were defeated as a result 3–2 after a great final after crushing and Morocco’s FAR 3-0 in the previous round.

The famous French sports newspaper the Team and the paper devoted a large space in one of their editions to Chabab Riadhi Belcourt.

    The Events Between 1971–1972

The team relapsed after starting the championship with three wins against WA Tlemcen (7-0), JSM Tiaret (8-3) and USM Bel-Abbès(4-1). It was the beginning of the end of a cycle. Meanwhile, they recorded a 3rd consecutive win for the Maghreb that same season.

    The Evolution Of Young Players

In 1978 to 1995, the club failed to win titles despite the good results that made that the team after all the earlier years, ranking each time 2nd, 3rd or 4th. They experienced their worst ever season till date when they relegated to D2 in 1998. They also lost on penalties to USMA in the Algerian Cup final. This all occurred when the team was referred as the best Championship squad on paper with the likes of Yahi, Amani, Badache, Laamouri, Khoudja, Kabrane, Abdesamia, Kouhil, Demdoum, etc. On the ground though, things were otherwise. The club returned to the D1 the next year, in 1988 and the nightmare lasted only a season.

However, CRB considerably lost its fame of a run of successive championships. They  even managed to repeatedly avoid relegation until 1994.  The Mourad Abdelouahab led Shabab was ranked 4th in the championship during this year. Qualification for the Arabic Cup in Saudi Arabia was the major objective. However, the club participated in this competition the next year (1995) and recorded an outstanding semi-final run. They were eliminated by Esperance de Tunis who managed a 1-0 win. CRB beat O Medea 2-1 to clinch their fifth Algerian Cup in 1995.

Is it possible to know all these events and not know how to join CR Belouizdad Fc Academy? I doubt.

    The Evolution Of Young Talents

A new generation of young and talented players evolved, despite the change of office (departure and arrival of Lefkir Selmi) and officials.(Mourad replaced Abdelouahab of Bacha-Adjaout). It was a golden age and the squad was described as an “Algerian dream-team”. The team included players like Bekhti, Badji, Settara, Talis, Bounekdja, Selmi Yacine Chedba Ali Moussa, Boutaleb and others. The tactical approaches and goals of coaches were met as fresh players were brought in constantly and CRB developed a beautiful football style. Mezouar and Boukessassa arrived at the club at this period.

Chabab were Champions of Algeria for the 5th time due to some new talent arrival during the 1999-2000 campaign. On 19 March 2000, they also defeated MC Oran 3-0 in the league cup.

They cemented their reign by beating JSK and USMA 7 days of the end of the championship winning a title 2 row from 2000 to 2001. For the record, mid-season Shabab had won 10 consecutive games with Nour Benzekri.

The Trying Times Of The Club

Due to the unreasonable policy of its new direction, dark years began for the club after this season. However, they still managed to reach the 2003 Algerian Cup final . The referee(Berber) was to blame for this loss due to a scandalous bias in favor of USM Alger. The club was run very lawlessly in this period in the sense that 17 players were released in 18 months. Everyone knew that Chabab went straight to ruin after all this. The club managed to  escape relegation to D2 twice; in (2003-2004 and 2004-2005). It was two of their worst seasons (after 1988). The played with about 16 players and still recorded a decent 2005-06 campaign.

    Winners Of The 2020 Champions

The 2019-20 season was halted due to COVID-19 pandemic and CR Belouizdad were declared champions of the unfinished season.

Also, they made a skating side near the stands. However, they used at the 1975 Mediterranean Games and at the 1978 All-African Games. The Algerians used it after independence, along with Omar Hamadi Stadium and Mohamed Benhaddad Stadium in Algiers. Algeria received influential guests at this stadium before the inauguration of Stade du 5 Juillet in 1972. This happened during the reign of President Houari Boumediene. The Algerian national football team used the stadium as their home ground.

The Greens played many memorable games in this stadium after independence. They once beat West Germany with two goals. They only lost twice against Tunisia  and against FC Nantes in a friendly match in over 10 years after independence. Until their last game in the stadium, they beat many teams and scored draws against Morocco, Egypt and other teams. On 21 March 1971, they played their last game in the stadium which was a Munich Olympics qualification match. They drew 2-2 against Mali. This led to their elimination. The competition started the next year.

    The Tragedy

The biggest tragedy that Algerian stadium have recorded since independence struck on November 26, 1982. It was a game between MA Hussein Dey and MP Alger in the 7th round of the national championship. This happened after a lot of people came to watch the 1982 FIFA World Cup and the stars of the “Gijon” epic. This led to the collapse of the side stands of the stadium. Ten supporters died and over 500 injured.

The Algerian singer and rapper Soolking held a large concert which over 30,000 fans attended. This was in August 22, 2019. Other artistes L’Algérino, Fianso, Alonzo and Dhurata Dora accompanied him. There was a stampede while entering the stadium and 5 people died. The Two girls aged 19 and 22 and three boys aged 13, 16 and 21, died as they transferred them to Mustapha Pacha hospital (CHU). This was on Captain Nassim Bernaoui’s

They evacuated 32 wounded people to the CHU of the capital in the process. “They left the hospital the next day,” said the same source. One of the reason of the accident was that, they sold more tickets than the capacity. Soolking apologized and stated that he would have cancelled the party if he knew what had happened. The dismissals of the boss of ONDA, organizer of the event, head of the national police and the Minister of  Culture followed.

    Foot Note

The various people turn responsibility for the tragedy to each other while waiting for investigations to finish. They opened the stadium doors by 4 p.m. to welcome an already large flow of fans. Some arrived in the morning, says Captain Nassim Bernaoui, Civil Protection communications manager. Security guards filtered the public in dribbles in front of the entrances. The people were eager to enter the stadium as the time for the concert approached. He stated that the second major risk in Algeria is massive regroupings.

By 1994, the club had a break in their poor performance in the Division 1. Subsequently, they nurtured their academy players to get into the senior team squad. It had quite a positive outcome though.

    The Sale Of The Club

In 1998, they sold Rennes to retail magnate François Pinault. Then, Pinault ensured the overall redevelopment of the football ground and signing of new players. Example is Lucas Severino. Breizh Stourmer came up in 2003 after a break from RCK. They had a unique goal but in another dimension. Consequently, this new group has experienced allegations and engaged in confrontations. RCK biggest rivals are the Brigade Loire, the Nantes support group.

Breizh Stourmer was scraped out and Unvez Melt (UK) formed. This was in 2008. Around 2012, the club dissolved it. This was as a result of their chaotic and disorderliness in the neighborhood. At some point, they engaged in a clash with the National Police. The club couldn’t condone it anymore.

Details About The Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1

Initially called Championnat National 1, the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 is commonly called Championnat National de Première Division or Ligue 1. (Arabic : الرابطة الجزائرية المحرتفة الأولى لكرة القدم). It is the Algerian professional league for association football clubs. Also, it serves as the top tier of the Algerian football league system. It is the country’s domestic football competition.

    Background Of Ligue Professionnelle 1

    The Events Of 1897–1962

French football played a huge role and is tightly linked to the history of football in Algeria. In 1872, football appeared in France, and in 1894, it appeared in its turn naturally in North Africa. The French authority colonized the area at the time. The first clubs were founded in Oran, CDJ Oran (Club des Joyeuseté) on 14 April 1894.  In July 1897, this club created its football section. CAL Oran (Club Athlétique Liberté Oranais) which was initially called Club Athlétique Oranais was founded with his football section on 28 September 1897.

In the French Algeria region, football constantly and rapidly developed for more than half a century. Several other clubs were established along with a governing body in departmental and inter-regional competitions practices. The colonial French football ended when Algeria became the last territory in North Africa to abandon French rule in 1962.

    The Events Of 1963–1964

During the 1963-64 season, the championship was once again modified. This was following a very complex competition season regional tournaments organized on a system comprising different categories. They played a final tournament and a regional final at certain times to crown the first Algerian Champions. Algerian football executives reached a certain elite. Three regional groups were involved for most teams that played in the competition last season. The championship was later dubbed the ephemeral DH, the “Honor Division”. However, they implemented only a group per region instead of many individual groups composing three regional football leagues.

ASM Oran were regional Champions for the Western region or West Division Honneur, after these regional championships. This was after they defeated the rival Oran on MC Oran. As a result, they qualified for the national tournament with striker Abdelkader Reguig surnamed Pons. NA Hussein Dey were Champions of the Central Region or Division Honneur Center. They beat major rivals, CR Belcourt, in the final. The most outstanding player was their goalkeeper Amirat, a Senior Contributor to the qualification of its team in the national tournament.

He stopped all playmaker chabibistr Hacène Lalmas attempts on goal.  USM Annaba formerly called USM Bone were Champions of the East region or Eastern Division Honneur. They were winners of group I and qualified for the second consecutive year in the final tournament. Player-coach Mohamed Boufermès led them through this period. She beats the departmental final MSP Batna winner of Group II.

    More Information

The three regional champions met to determine who will win the second title on Constantine. They decided the Honorary Division of the League of Constantine, the MSP Batna to be the fourth team to accompany the three champions. The USM Annaba defeated ASM Oran and advanced to the final to meet NA Hussein Dey who beat MSP Batna. USM Annaba won the final and to date, they are the first and only league title winners.

    National Division One

The Algerian Football Federation once again reorganized the championship. This was after two competitive seasons in the form of regional tournaments with a final national tournament. Meanwhile, they established a national championship to direct confrontation between the sixteen best teams of the three regional leagues in the 1964-65 season. Therefore, they referred to the results of the prior season including the first five of each of the regional leagues and more regional champions of the season.

The ASM Oran, MC Oran, ES Mostaganem, MC Saida, and JSM Tiaret were the first five teams for the Western region or League Oranie.  The ones for the center of Algiers region or League are the CR Belouizdad, NA Hussein Dey, USM Blida, MC Algiers and USM Alger. For the Eastern region or Constantine League, the previous champions USM Annaba and the other five of the ranking of this region. They include MSP Batna, ES Guelma, ES Sétif, USM Sétif and MO Constantine. Hope you are following up on the topic “How To Join RC Arbaa Football Academy”.

Different formulas of the first division.

Exceptional Performance Of CR Belouizdad From 1965–1971

They initially called CR Belouizdad whish, CR Belcourt. They are from the district of Belcourt to Algiers. The joining of two former clubs from the same district, WRB (Widad Riadhi Belcourt) and the CAB (Club Athéltique Belcourt) created the club.

Both clubs were affiliated with the FFFA (French Football Federation Association) and LAFA (League Algiers Football Association). They competed during the

French colonial era. They won not less than four titles between 1964-1965 and 1970-1971. Also, they dominated national football in the sixties. They made two double Championship in 1964-1965—1965-1966, then during the 1968-1969—1969-1970 season. Yahia Ahmed Saadi managed them. Then, Arab Zitoun took over. The team consisted of the most outstanding players who were the pillars of the Algerian selection. Apart from those from the French colonial clubs such as Hamiti of Racing Universitaire d’Alger or Djemaâ of Gallia Sport Algiers.

They were outstanding in all competitions in both Algeria and Maghreb. Consecutively, they won three Maghreb Champions Cups. The ES Sétif Salhi of brothers, who won the 1967-68 season, and MC Oran who won his first trophy in the season 1970-71 are their two major rivals. MC Oran narrowly missed the 1968-68 season with the generation Fréha – Hadefi.

The Club’s Top Opponents: MC Alger (5 titles) – JS Kabylie (4 titles) – (1972–1980)

Though not everything was easy, MC Algiers took over the seventies. The club was relegated for the first time in the previous season. Serious occurrence in the 1964–65 seasons against the MC Oran was partly the cause of that. However, this absence was kind of beneficial because they won five Algerian league titles on their return. It took three years for the club to regain the first division and good staff.  The team achieved this feat twice during the 1974—75 and 1975—76 seasons. They did this under the duo of Khabatou Zouba and their team.

The 1975—76 season held the most resounding achievement of this decade for this team. MC Algiers won a triple: Algeria Championship, Algerian Cup, and African Cup of Champion Clubs that season.

JS Kabylie won four league titles in Algeria in this decade and won dominance over MC Algiers. They nicknamed the team “steamroller” after consecutive victories. Also, Mouloud Iboud captained the team for nearly nine-year. In the 1972-73 and 1973-74 seasons, the club was the second after CR Belouizdad to win a double championship. They also won a double Algerian Cup –of Algerian Football Championship in the 1976-77 season. They were the first team to appoint foreign coaches after the passage of former goalkeeper of the FLN football team, Abderrahmane Boubekeur.

Frenchman Jean Lemaître (season 1970-71), and Christian Banjou (midseason 1974—75 and midseason 1975—76) managed the team. Also, Yugoslav Jouan Cestic (season 1973-74), Hungarian Andre Nagy (mid-season 1976-77), and Romanians the duo of Virgil Popescu and Peter Mândru( season 1972-73 year of the first title), then Brazil Marian (1973-74). The Polish Stefan Zywotko is the most famous of these early foreign coaches. He formed a duet that lasted about twelve years with Mahieddine Khaled at the end of this decade.

    More Information

In the 1975-76 season, the Ministry of Youth and Sports held a sports reform. The aim was to empower elite clubs to structure themselves in a professional manner (ASP Sports Association Performance) by giving them a good financial base. They were to have full autonomy management with the creation of their own training center. As a result, several clubs renamed themselves after their major sponsor. MC Alger, MC Oran, and ES Sétif were renamed MP Algiers, MP Oran, and EP Sétif to promote their sponsors Promoted oil of Sonatrach.  Also, Sonelgaz , with the ‘K’ of Kahraba (gas), sponsorisa the JS Kabylie , which gave its name to JK Kabylie  in Jamiat Sari ‘ Kawkabi or the USM Alger , famous USK Algiers.  CNAN (Compagnie National Algérienne de

Navigation) with the M of Milaha (browser) that sponsors the Nasr Hussein Dey Athletic became Milaha Athletic Hussein Dey and many others more.

Just like  Mouloudia of Algiers, it will have allowed these clubs to form themselves into genuine independent sports clubs. The club evolved and continues to dominate sports competitions in other disciplines such as football. However, clubs got themselves, several sponsors, at a time and gradually reused their original names over the years.

About Hegemony JS Kabylie (6 titles) from (1981–1990)

Algerian football recorded a good year in the eighties. Two of its national teams qualified for the World Cup and internationally performed well. The JS Kabylie  (JSK), Jeunesse Électronique de Tizi-Ouzou (JET) were outstanding nationally. JE Tizi-Ouzoud dominated Algerian football under the famous Polish duo Stefan Zywotko and Mahieddine Khalef.

They won in ten years no less than six titles of “Champion of Algeria,” and never stopped breaking records. Also, gleaning in passing three cups of Algeria and winning two titles of champion of Africa. They nicknamed them “Jumbo Jet” for their characteristic greatness and achievements.

It’s held on the championship as it reached outside of these six titles. In 1980-81 and 1987-88, they finished in second place and third place in the 1983-84 season, nine times in ten years on the podium. People tagged them “double champions” because they won these titles three times twice, i.e. by producing doubled in the league. They won it in 1981-82—1982-83 and 1984-85—1985-86, and then 1988-89—1989-1990. During the 1980-81 and 1989-1990 seasons, the JE Tizi-Ouzou made two doubled African Cup – Algerian Championship. The second came in the 1985-86 campaign. The team recorded ninety-eight points in thirty-eight matches at year-end that same season (in a championship consisting of twenty teams).

    More Information

MP Oran, then the only rival of JE Tizi-Ouzou challenged then and removed its second Championship in the 1987-88 season. Therefore, qualifying for the African Cup of Champions Clubs. However, they lost the final to Moroccan club, WA Casablanca. Also, in the season 1984-85, 1986-8, and 1989-90, Mouloudia Oran finished second in the championship.

GC Mascara was another outstanding team. They were one of the few to win a championship( in the 1983-84 season) in the colonial era(since affiliated with the Lofa Oran Football League Association’)

RC Kouba finished second in the 1966-67 and 1974-75 seasons. They finally won their first championship (the only one to date) in the 1980-81 season. Also, apart from JE Tizi-Ouzou and EO Sétif they were the last team to win a championship in this decade. She won her second championship during the season 1986-86. Therefore, they competed in the African Cup of Champions Clubs. It was later won by a Nigerian side, Iwuanyanwu National.

About MC Oran (2 titles) from (1991–1999)

The national team of Algerian football recorded two major titles. The African Cup of Nations in 1990, organized its territory, and the Intercontinental Cup the following year, the late Afro-Asian Cup of Nations. As was the case in previous decades to the CR Belouizdad on MC Algiers or JS Kabylie, no uncontested leadership came up in this decade nationally.

However, they considered MC Oran as a team beyond dispute. The “Hamroua” are the only ones to win the largest number of shares in this decade. They acquired all this in the 1991-92 and 1992-93 seasons. They were the fourth club behind CR Belouizdad, JS Kabylie, and MC Algiers to achieve a championship double.

MC Oran’s two league titles at this time marked a clear difference between the other competitors. Consecutively, they finished in second place in 1994-95 through to 1996-97. They also competed in the defunct Arab Cup Winners’ Cup. MC Oran chose to compete in the Arab competition after defeating USM Blida in the final of the Algerian Cup. They won the competition consecutively in 1997 and 1998, and even went ahead to win the Arab Super Cup in 1999.

One of the pioneer clubs of championship Alger, MO Constantine was one of the few to win a championship during the French colonial era(because affiliated with the LCFA the Constantine Football League Association). In the 1991-92 season, they finally won their first championship in Algeria. This was after they finished second in 1971-72 and 1973-74. In 1996-97, their rival Constantine CS Constantine won the championship.

    More Information

The second club of the “Berber” ethnic group, US Chaouia after the JS Kabylie wins a championship. It was their first title. Another Algerian club, USM El Harrach won a championship in the 1997-98 season. Meanwhile, in the 1983-84 and 1991-92 seasons, they finished second. They abandoned the reform MJS (Ministry of Youth and Sports), adopted in 1976-77 during this decade. Therefore, clubs resumed their original names. In the 1997—98 season, they recognized the championship into two groups of eight teams. Also in the 1998-99 season, they reorganized it into two pools of fourteen competitors. These new changes included a “play-off” where the two leaders of these groups competed for the title of Champion. There were extensions between MC Algiers and JS Kabylie which saw the Mouloudia a goal to win zero in the 1998-99 edition.

The Switch In Dominance Between CR Belouizdad (2 titles) USM Alger (3 titles) and JS Kabylie (2 titles)

For over two thousand years, the championship has not experienced any real domination of a certain team.  However, some teams dominated each other at intervals at a time. In this case, CR Belouizdad dominated and won championships at the beginning of this decade. Since the 1969-70 season, the league title eluded the club for nearly thirty years. Also, CR Belouizdad won two consecutive titles in the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 campaigns.

ES Sétif reigned at the end of this decade after CR Belouizdad dominated at the beginning. This club won JS Kabylie twice to win the championships in the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons. They have not won this “champion of Algeria” title for nearly twenty-one years since the 1986-87 season. Internationally, they won two consecutive Arab Champions League in 2006-07 and 2007-08. USM Alger and JS Kabylie are other teams that stood out.

This team of USM Alger enjoyed a golden generation symbolized by one player Billel Dziri. This man led his teammates and his team to achieve a lot in this decade. They won the championship in 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-05. After CR Belouizdad, JS Kabylie, MC Algiers, and MC Oran, they were the fifth club to achieve a championship double. They will finish in second place three times during the season if they win three championships. Also (dolphin CR Belouizdad ), 2003-03 and 2005-06(dolphin JS Kabylie). In the 2002-2003 season, they won a dubbed Algerian Cup—Algerian Championship.

    More Information

USM Alger dominated domestic football at this time with six titles in all competitions. JS Kabylie challenged their rule as they won three championships in 2003-04, 2005-06, and 2007-08.  However, they lost the Algerian Cup final to USM Alger in the 2003-04 season. In the 2001-02 season(CR Belouizdad), 2004-05(USM Alger), 2006-07, and 2008-09(ES Sétif) they finished second in the championship. Internationally, they won the African Cup three consecutive times. JS Kabylie somehow concentrated more on the CAF Cup. This earned them a win against Egyptian side Ismaily SC in 1999-2000. They also won consecutively two more times in 2000-01 and 2001-02 against Étoile du Sahel and Tonnerre Yaounde respectively.

JS Kabylie opposed USM Alger strongly with six titles including three international in that decade. Meanwhile, after eleven years of absence, MC Algiers won their seventh league title.
