This article titled “Latest News on Netherlands League” will bring you the latest happenings among the teams in the Netherlands Lea
In Saturday’s home game against SC Cambuur, Dusan Tadic played his 200th game for Ajax. He scored not less than 92 times in these games. The record series (131 duels) that is still going strong in the Eredivisie is what makes Tadic unique. Tadic hasn’t missed a competitive game since moving to Amsterdam in 2018. No (ex-Ajax) player has amassed a longer series. The Serb is also very valuable to Ajax in other ways and Wednesday will mark a new milestone for him.
Tadic is also Ajax’s own long-distance runner, particularly in terms of results in the Eredivisie. From the moment he made his debut as an Ajax player in the Eredivisie on August 11, 2018, he hasn’t been absent from any tournament match. That amounted to 34 matches for each of the seasons 2018–2019, 2020–2021, and 2021–2022. Although, the corona epidemic prevented the completion of the 2019–2020 season. The Serb also shared in all 25 Ajax duels in the Eredivisie during that unique—or rather bizarre—season. Additionally, Tadic participated in all four rounds of the Eredivisie in the current 2022–2023 season. In fact: with four fundamental spots, the captain still proved to be a significant asset in the Ajaxsquad.
Holder of the record
No other Ajax player has ever played in more (consecutive) Eredivisie games in club history. Tadic has held the record for the club since the last quarter of the previous season in 2021–2022. Gert Bals had held the previous record (123 connected Ajax matches) since April 2, 1969, but he improved it. Between August 22, 1965 and April 2, 1969, a period of four years, 123 matches, Bals participated in the competition while under the bar.
Tadic has now participated in 164 consecutive Eredivisie games throughout his stint as a player for FC Twente. The Eredivisie’s longest foreigner series is this one (Gábor Babos comes in second with 144 duels). Ruud Hesp holds the all-time Eredivisie record with 334 games, so it will be out of reach for a long. What stands out about both rankings is how Tadic always ranks higher than goalkeepers
Tadic is one of Ajax’s best strikers.
Tadic has not yet scored this season, but his two assists in 2022/2023 bring the total after 131 competition games to 66 goals and 65 assists. He thus contributed to 131 goals and/or assists across 131 competitive games. An excellent average.
Which of our forebears averaged goals plus assists better than average? After their first 131 games in the Eredivisie, only Marco van Basten, Ruud Geels, and Luis Suarez in Ajaxhistory could provide even higher stats.
The last striker in the top five is Klass Jan Huntelaar; like the other two scorers, Van Basten and Geels, he scored far more frequently than Tadic while also contributing significantly more assists.
Suarez did manage to compile his higher numbers in 110 many less games. There are no reliable data on the number of assists during the years when Henk Groot, his brother Cees Groot, and Johan Cruijff played.
Tadic joins the Club of 100
When it comes to being the most devoted Ajaxplayer, Tadic, Joop Frans Couton and Stoffelen (Ajacied between 1940 and 1950) (1916-1927) tied for 64th position. With 202 official matches under his belt, Tomás Galásek is one position higher. Between 2000 and 2006, the compassionate Czech was a beloved Ajaxplayer. Tadic still cannot catch Mister Ajax Sjaak Swart’s 603 appearances at Ajax 1.
Next achievement awaits
Wednesday brings Tadic closer to yet another achievement. The captain could play in his 50th European game if Ajax plays Rangers FCin the first group game of the UEFA Champions League. The majority of former Ajax players that participated in more European games were from the championship seasons (1971, 1972, 1973, and 1995). Ajax’s record-holder with 78 European games is Danny Blind. Piet Keizer comes in second with 77, while Sjaak Swart and Ruud Krol, all of whom won 72 European duels, round out the top three. Only Daley Blind (69), Davy Klaassen (64), and Maarten Stekelenburg (57), in the current Afred Schreuder team, have played more European duels than Tadic.
