Get To Know The Academy Coaches

Mr. Matt Gordon (Owner)

As the Director of Club Basketball at Grand Canyon University, Matt Gordon is responsible for guiding three men’s teams and two women’s teams to victory.

As the business director of the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association, Coach Gordon has another job outside of coaching.

Matt Gordon coached at Phoenix College for 14 years before stepping down in 2018.

Meanwhile, with the Bears, he took them to seven NJCAA National Tournaments and over 300 victories in his 14 years at Phoenix College.

He also has 14 appearances in the Region 1 Championship Game, 7 Region 1 Championships, 3 Final Four trips, and 1 National Championship (2014) to his name.

In 2014, the NABC and the NJCAA honored Coach Gordon as the nation’s top junior college coach.

As an assistant coach at the University of Portland from 2001 to 2003, Coach Gordon oversaw player development and contributed to the school’s recruiting efforts.

More Information

Coach Gordon spent a year at Cal State Northridge before joining the Dominican staff, and during that time the Matadors had their first 20-win season in program history.

After four years as a Student Assistant at UCLA, Coach Gordon earned his degree. During his time as head coach, UCLA advanced to the NCAA tournament four years in a row, twice making it as far as the Sweet Sixteen.

Madison Gordon, Matt and Iris’s 12-year-old daughter, is the only child of the couple.

Andre Gibson (Head Trainer)

With great excitement, AYB introduced Coach Andre to our Rec League Program in 2017. But he has deep ties to our company’s originator, Matt Gordon.

After graduating from Chandler High, Matt coached Andre at Phoenix College. After Andre completed his studies at Presentation College in South Dakota, he relocated back to Phoenix, where he and his former colleague resumed their working relationship.

Coach Andre practiced his coaching qualities at both the middle school and high school levels for Great Hearts Cicero. Also, he headed the academy’s recreation program and provided advice to the AYB Club League.

Coach Andre’s approach is one of a kind because it is both enjoyable and productive for his young charges.

Coach Isaiah Strong

In 2017, Isaiah Strong became one of AYB’s recreational and competitive coaching staff members.

In addition to assisting with the administration of the AYB Rec Program, Coach Isaiah took charge of two separate U-10 and U-12 teams.

What Makes AYB Unique?

We are well aware that parents can choose where and with whom their children participate in sports.

The advantages and disadvantages of participating in a profit-oriented league, a local rec league, or even school athletics are all different.

Here at Arcadia Youth Basketball , we believe that what sets us apart from other leagues is what makes AYB so amazing for our players.

Schedule Games And Practices

Our Rec and Club leagues both schedule games and practices at the same time and place.

This may not seem like a big problem, but having a set timetable for our players and their families is a huge help.

Furthermore, our regular hours and location make it much easier to juggle multiple sports as an individual or as a family.

Distinct Leagues

Arcadia Youth Basketball has built its curriculum based on the recognition that males and females thrive in distinct settings. And some players may feel uneasy about joining a game with a wide range of skill levels.

In order to provide the greatest and most encouraging learning environment for each group of players, AYB differentiates male and female athletes.

Programs On Skill Development And Enhancement

Our Rec league continuously improves upon the skills it has already acquired with each new week.

As the season advances, officials make more and more calls during weekly games, providing players with many opportunities to gain experience while playing.

Meanwhile, the players have a deeper understanding of how to put into practice what they learn each week in a game context as a direct result of this weekly real-world application of their skill sets.
