Charles Bassey is a Nigerian basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The basketball player is on a two-way contract with the Austin Spurs of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. In the 2021 NBA draft, Charles was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers.

While Charles was selling fried chicken on the road at that age, he was discovered by a youth basketball coach. So he focused on developing his basketball skills and stopped playing soccer. Charles moved to the United States at age 14 to continue his basketball career at St. Anthony Catholic High School, a private school in San Antonio, Texas. He led his team to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) title game as a freshman. Furthermore, he was named MVP at the Jordan Brand Classic International Game that he competed in. With St. Anthony filing an appeal, Charles was ruled ineligible by the TAPPS before his sophomore season. However, he still made his debut and head coach Jeff Merritt was fired for playing an ineligible player.

The Nigerian basketball player transferred to DeSales High School in Louisville, Kentucky for his junior season. A freshman season-high 25 points and 10 rebounds in a 78-62 loss to UCF was recorded by Charles on November 18, 2018. The most rebounds by a freshman since 1972 was recorded by him on January 13, 2019. Being a freshman, he earned First Team All-Conference USA, Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors. In addition, the most rebounds, blocks, and doubles-doubles by a freshman were recorded by him. A tibial plateau fracture that he suffered against Arkansas that required surgery cut short his sophomore season.

With the 53rd pick in the second round of the 2021 NBA draft, Charles was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers. After this, he subsequently joined them for the 2021 NBA Summer League. He signed with the 76ers on September 24, 2021 and waived on October 13, 2022.

San Antonio Spurs (2022-present)

The San Antonio Spurs announced that they had signed Charles to a two-way contract on October 24, 2022.
