The former Italian goalkeeper for AS Monaco, Vito Mannone (34), has been signed by Les Merlus to serve as Yvon Mvogo’s backup. He committed to a single season. Vito Mannone, who was passed by Arsenal, Barnsley, Hull City, Sunderland, Reading, Minnesota, Esbjerg, and Monaco, will bring all of his experience (more than 250 matches at a high level) to the Lorient group and more specifically to the group of Merlus goalkeepers. Vito Mannone, who notably played in the Champions League during his career (8 matches with Arsenal), was passed by these teams.
He won the 2019 MLS Best Goalkeeper Award while playing for Minnesota United in the United States, and that season, he was a member of the regular team.
After a certain Nello Sbaiz, Vito Mannone is the second Italian player to don the Merlus jersey (1967-1972).
