It has featured its home games at the 72,039-seater Morumbi football stadium in So Paulo since 1960. In 1992, 1993, 1994, 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2006, the stadium hosted the Copa Libertadores finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-f-c-sao-paulo-history\"><strong>The F.C. S\u00e3o Paulo History<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-beginnings-of-the-club-sao-paulo-da-floresta-sao-paulo-of-the-forest-1930-1934\"><strong>Beginnings of the club: &#8220;S\u00e3o Paulo da Floresta&#8221; (&#8220;S\u00e3o Paulo of the Forest&#8221;), 1930\u20131934<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On January 25, 1930, 60 onetime executives, S\u00e3o footballers, participants, and supporters of the  Paulo football clubs Club Athletico Paulistano and Associa\u00e7o Atl\u00e9tica das Palmeiras came together to become S\u00e3o Paulo FC. Because of the institutionalization of the game, Club Athletico Paulistano, one of the earliest clubs in town and 11-time winners of S\u00e3o Paulo, has deserted football. The Associa\u00e7o Atl\u00e9tica das Palmeiras, formed in 1902 and three-time winners of So Paulo, attempted however did fail to establish a professional club following the season concluded in 1929.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new club&#8217;s jerseys were inspired by those worn by Associa\u00e7o Atl\u00e9tica das Palmeiras, which were white with a black ring over the breast. The red-and-white of Club Athletico Paulistano was joined to the black-and-white of Associa\u00e7o Atl\u00e9tica das Palmeiras, making the ring red, white, and black.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arthur Friedenreich and Araken Patusca were introduced to the union by Club Athletico Paulistano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stadium Est\u00e1dio da Floresta, also referred as Ch\u00e1cara da Floresta, was built by Associa\u00e7o Atl\u00e9tica das Palmeiras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inner strife and turbulence resulted in monetary difficulties. On 14 May 1935, the club amalgamated with Clube de Regatas Tiet\u00ea, a local sports club, and the football dept was dismantled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-resurgence-of-sao-paulo-fc-1935-1939\"><strong>The Resurgence of S\u00e3o Paulo FC, 1935\u20131939<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The founding members and re-founders of the Gr\u00eamio Tricolor became Clube Atl\u00e9tico S\u00e3o Paulo on 4 June 1935, and then S\u00e3o Paulo Futebol Clube on 16 Dec that year, shortly following the amalgamation with Tiet\u00ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Jan 25, 1936, the new club played its maiden match versus Portuguesa Santista. Because of the city&#8217;s commemoration, the match was almost canceled. However, Porphyrio da Paz, the football director, and writer of the club&#8217;s hymn received approval from the Board of Education Office to keep the contest going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1938, the club merged again, this occasion with Clube Atl\u00e9tico Estudantes Paulista from the Mo\u00f3ca area, and came in second in the Campeonato Paulista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-post-tele-years-1996-2004\"><strong>Post-Tel\u00ea years, 1996\u20132004<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tel\u00ea Santana left S\u00e3o Paulo in January 1996 due to medical challenges, bringing the club&#8217;s glory days to a close. The club had 14 managers between 1995 and 2004. The Paulista Championship in 2000 and the club&#8217;s first Rio-Sa Paulo Tournament victory in 2001 were two of the most significant trophies won throughout those 10 years. The club&#8217;s heroes were Rog\u00e9rio Ceni, Jlio Baptista, Lus Fabiano, and Kak\u00e1. Ra came back to the club for a brief while between 1998 and 2000. Won the Paulista Championship two times with him, in 1998 and 2000, upon defeating Corinthians and Santos, accordingly. S\u00e3o Paulo returned to the Copa Libertadores in 2004, reaching the semi-finals prior to getting ousted by Colombian underdogs Once Caldas. \u00c9merson Leo was appointed as the club&#8217;s coach at the close of that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2003, S\u00e3o Paulo struck a deal with Santangelo Club Aficionado of Spain. Which ultimately led to the Spanish club&#8217;s name being changed to S\u00e3o Paulo Madrid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From 2005 to 2009, he won 3 Brazilian tournaments and the Copa Libertadores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sao-paulo-claimed-the-paulista-championship-in-2005-with-leo-as-the-club-s-manager-leo-on-the-other-hand-would-quit-the-club-soon-after-being-replaced-by-paulo-autuori-a-one-time-peruvian-national-team-manager\">S\u00e3o Paulo claimed the Paulista Championship in 2005, with Leo as the club&#8217;s manager.<br>Leo, on the other hand, would quit the club soon after being replaced by Paulo Autuori, a one-time Peruvian national team manager.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S\u00e3o Paulo won the Libertadores Cup for the 3rd time, defeating Atl\u00e9tico Paranaense, some other Brazilian team, in the final. Because their own stadium did not have the occupancy for a final, Atl\u00e9tico moved the opening leg of the final to Est\u00e1dio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre, and the game finished in a 1\u20131 tie. S\u00e3o Paulo triumphed 4\u20130 in the return leg at the Morumbi to become the first Brazilian team to win 3 Copa Libertadores titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paulo Autuori exited the team during the 2005 season to coach Kashima Antlers in the J. League. Muricy Ramalho, who led Internacional to second place in the 2005 Brazilian Championship, was hired as the next coach. Ramalho finished second in the Paulista Championship in his maiden campaign as a manager, having lost by one point against Santos. So Paulo made it to the final of the 2006 Copa Libertadores, however, Internacional defeated them 4\u20133 in the total. Ultimately, they proceeded to win their 4th Campeonato Brasileiro title. Making them the first team under the new league system structure to win a national championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S\u00e3o Paulo claimed the Brazilian title for the 2nd year in succession, 15 points higher than second-placed Santos, upon being knocked from the Copa Libertadores round of Sixteen by Gr\u00eamio in 2007. They earned the championship for the third year in a row in 2008. Hence coming back from an 11-point second-half setback to capture their 6th league title. Muricy Ramalho became the first manager in league history to win 3 championships in a row with the same team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-from-2010-to-the-present-hard-times\"><strong>From 2010 to the present; hard times<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the 2010 Copa Libertadores, S\u00e3o Paulo fell to Internacional in the semifinals for the second time, completing Ricardo Gomes&#8217; tenure as manager. For the first season since 2003, the club ended 9th in the league. Hence failing to meet the criteria for the international tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rivaldo was recruited in 2011 while Lus Fabiano was returned from Sevilla for a club-record \u20ac7.6 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Campeonato Paulista, goalkeeper Rog\u00e9rio Ceni recorded his 100th professional goal against Corinthians. Notwithstanding these occurrences, the season ended with the team ranking #6 in the league. So was unable to fit the criteria for the Libertadores for the second year in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to surveys undertaken by Brazilian sports website GloboEsporte.com, <mark><mark style=\"background-color:var(--base-2)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-contrast-color\">S\u00e3o<\/mark><\/mark> Paulo was only the 2nd Brazilian club to generate more funds in the transfer window than losses through the 8 years between 2003 and 2011. Tricolor Paulista acquired R$287 million, trailing only Internacional, which garnered R$289 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2021, S\u00e3o Paulo ultimately stopped its second-longest drought in club origins (8 years) when it conquered Palmeiras in the Campeonato Paulista finals. Winning the championship for the first time since 2005, under new manager Hern\u00e1n Crespo. But, following a string of dismal performances, Crespo has fired roughly 5 months afterward. The club was mired in yet another demotion struggle and was substituted by club great Rog\u00e9rio Ceni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sao-paulo-stadium\"><strong>Sao Paulo Stadium<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Est\u00e1dio Cicero Pompeu de Toledo, also recognized as Morumbi (Brazilian Portuguese: [mobi]), is a football stadium in So Paulo, Brazil. It is situated in the eponymous district. It is the headquarters of S\u00e3o Paulo Futebol Clube, and its official naming commemorates Cicero Pompeu de Toledo, the club&#8217;s chairman for the majority of the stadium&#8217;s development and who passed before it could be officially opened. Morumbi is Brazil&#8217;s biggest privately run stadium. Joo Batista Vilanova Artigas, an architect, modelled the stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-stadium-s-timeline\"><strong>The Stadium&#8217;s Timeline<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ch\u00e1cara da Floresta, situated opposite the Ponte das Bandeiras beside the Tiet\u00ea river in the heart of S\u00e3o Paulo, served as the club&#8217;s headquarters and home ground in the initial years of its establishment. As a result, the club&#8217;s initial iteration, which lasted from 1930 to 1935, is known as &#8220;S\u00e3o Paulo da Floresta.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the Ch\u00e1cara da Floresta now laid claim to Clube de Regatas Tiet\u00ea, which had acquired the previous So Paulo Futebol Clube, the refounded S\u00e3o Paulo didn&#8217;t have its own pitch when it was resurrected in Dec 1935. It started renting the Ant\u00f4nio Alonso stadium, which was then owned by Clube Atl\u00e9tico Paulista, in 1936. S\u00e3o Paulo obtained the Ant\u00f4nio Alonso in 1938 upon uniting with Estudantes Paulista (formed in 1937 by the amalgamation of Estudantes de S\u00e3o Paulo and Paulista). S\u00e3o Paulo started using the Est\u00e1dio do Pacaembu as a home stadium when it opened in 1940. In 1942, Juventus purchased the Ant\u00f4nio Alonso stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building supplies were purchased with some of the proceeds from the auction of Canind\u00e9 (which was bought by Portuguesa in 1956). The club&#8217;s entire earnings were put into the stadium&#8217;s construction, abandoning the team on the sidelines. The new stadium&#8217;s real installation commenced in 1953. The architect Joo Batista Villanova Artigas, a significant student of the college of contemporary architecture, was responsible for the layout of the Morumbi stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-city-offered-a-swap-in-which-the-morumbi-would-be-kept-and-the-pacaembu-would-be-kept-at-one-point-following-cicero-pompeu-de-toledo-s-pass-away-laudo-natel-with-the-backing-of-the-whole-board-resumed-the-morumbi-initiative\">The city offered a swap in which the Morumbi would be kept and the Pacaembu would be kept at one point. Following Cicero Pompeu de Toledo&#8217;s pass away, Laudo Natel, with the backing of the whole board, resumed the Morumbi initiative.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stadium installation began on August 15, 1952. The stadium was officially opened with a total potential of 70,000 spectators 8 years afterward, in 1960, after the building was half completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On October 2, 1960, S\u00e3o Paulo defeated Sporting Clube de Portugal 1-0 in the debut game. Peixinho of S\u00e3o Paulo netted the maiden goal at the stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stadium was fully completed in 1970, and the stadium&#8217;s total occupancy was boosted to 140,000 spectators. S\u00e3o Paulo and Porto tied 1-1 in their pre-inaugural encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Morumbi was proposed for the 2014 FIFA World Cup kickoff game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, on June 14, 2010, the stadium was ruled ineligible to stage matches in the championship because of a failure to offer financial assurances for the necessary upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CBF confirmed at the close of August 2010 that the games in S\u00e3o Paulo would be held in the new Corinthians stadium. The stadium was refurbished in order to be available for the 2014 World Cup by the close of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Morumbi staged the 2019 Copa America&#8217;s first game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-size\"><strong>Size<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Morumbi used to have a capacity of 120,000 seats, however, it presently has a total occupancy of 67,052.<br>The playing ground is 105 meters by 68 meters (115 yards by 74 yards).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sao-paulo-fc-s-head-coach\"><strong>Sao Paulo FC&#8217;s Head Coach<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rog\u00e9rio M\u00fccke Ceni (born 22 January 1973) is a Brazilian football manager and a one-time player who is currently the manager of S\u00e3o Paulo FC.
