Hurac\u00e1n failed to qualify for Copa Libertadores<\/a> play-offs in the Clausura tournament, despite Mohamed<\/a> scoring ten goals during that season,<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 1991, S\u00e9rie A club Fiorentina bought him for 1.2 million US dollars, although he didn\u2019t get any playtime. Successively, he served loan spells at Argentine clubs Boca Juniors<\/a> and Independiente. Mohamed<\/a> later joined Mexican side, Toros Neza after leaving the S\u00e9rie A club<\/a> in 1993. Alongside other notable players like Nildeson, Rodrigo Ruiz and Germ\u00e1n Arangio, his side went to the final against Guadalajara in the Verona \u201997 season. This was the peak of his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 1998, Mohamed<\/a> joined Monterrey after a brief spell with Club Am\u00e9rica where he played two Libertadores<\/a> matches. Between 2000 to 2003, he had brief spells with Marte, Irapuato, Atlanta, Celaya and Zacatepec. Mohamed retired officially aged 33.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On 19 February 1991, Mohamed<\/a> his International debut with the Argentina national football team in a friendly match against Hungary. His side won the game 2-0. He scored a goal in a total of four games played. In 1991, he won the Copa Am\u00e9rica<\/a> with the Argentine national team. <\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n He became coach of his last club Zacatepec in the Ascenso MX just shortly after they changed their name to Leones de Morelos. On 23 February 2004, Mohamed<\/a> replaced Ruben Omar Romano as head coach of Liga MX club Monarcas Morelia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In June 2004, after only 13 matches, Morelia sacked him. In February 2005, he replaced Jos\u00e9 Luis Trejo at the helm of Chiapas after he previously managed Quer\u00e9taro. <\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n Fernando Quirarte replaced him<\/a> after they dismissed him in April 2005. Subsequently, Mohamed returned to his first club<\/a> Hurac\u00e1n, and helped them secure promotion to the top division in 2007. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Mexican side, Veracruz appointed Mohamed<\/a> as their manager after a month of resigning from Hurac\u00e1n in September 2007. After only eight games, he resigned on 27 January 2008. <\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mohamed<\/a> returned to his home country where they appointed him as manager of Col\u00f3n de Santa Fe<\/a> on 19 March 2008. There he attracted several offers from major clubs in the country and resigned In September 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mohamed<\/a> became the manager of Independiente on 4 October 2010. He led the side to defeat Brazilian team Goias 5-3 on penalties to win the Copa Sudamericana tournament<\/a> <\/a>In December 2010. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mohamed<\/a> resigned from the club after a slow start to the season on 4 September 2011. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mohamed<\/a> replaced Joaquin Del Olmo as manager of then newly promoted Club Tijuana on 19 September 2011. In 2012, he led the side to defeat Toluca 4-1 on aggregate to reach their first Apertura Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In order to be closer to his family back in Argentina, Mohamed<\/a> resigned as Tijuana<\/a> manager in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On 2 July 2013, Mohamed<\/a> took up the managerial role at Hurac\u00e1n for the second time, after leaving Tijuana<\/a>. He resigned from the club after three wins and seven losses in ten matches in October of the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Brazilian side, Atl\u00e9tico Mineiro <\/a>appointed Mohamed<\/a> as their manager on 13 January 2022. He led the side to beat Flamengo to win his first title, the Supercopa do Brasil<\/a> on February 2022. On 2 April 2022, he also led the side to defeat their arch rivals Cruzeiro to win the 2022 Campeonato Mineiro<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mohamed<\/a> is of Lebanese <\/a>Syrian, and Croatian <\/a>descent. Following the custom in many Latin American countries for people of Arab descent, whose lineage was traced to the Ottoman Empire, he was nicknamed El Turco<\/em> (“The Turk”). In June 2006, his nine-year-old son Faryd died in a car accident during the World Cup in Germany. Mohamed almost lost his leg as he himself suffered severe injuries in the accident.
