History

A club was discovered as “Kasmpaşa Terbiye-i Bedeniye Kulü” and “Altuntu” were two neighborhood clubs that merged to form “Kasmpaşa Gençik Kulubü” in 1921. They participated in their first competitive game between 1923 and 1924. The team competed in Istanbul’s First League from 1939 to 1945 and 1946 to 1947. The club was promoted to the Türkiye Ligi in 1959 and played there for five seasons, finishing fifth in 1961–1962, their best performance there.

The team was promoted to the Süper Lig for the second time in their history on May 30, 2007, after 43 years. In a thrilling game against Altay, Kasmpaşa twice overcame deficits to force a shootout, which they won 4-3. They participated in the 2007–2008 Süper Lig season before being demoted back to the TFF First League. The third time in the club’s existence, Kasmpaşa was promoted to the Süper Lig on May 17, 2009, after it defeated Karşyaka 2-1 in extra time.

The squad managed to finish in the top ten in the 2009–10 season. They maintained their place in the top division of Turkish football. During that time, they defeated Fenerbahçe 3-1 away from home and Beşiktaş 3-1 away from home in the Turkish Cup. They also defeated Trabzonspor at home in league play by the same scoreline of 3-1.

More Information

Due to the coach’s decisions right before the season began in 2010–11, Kasmpaşa lost some of their key players by the start of the campaign. The team suffered a string of defeats when the roster started to deteriorate, and at the end of the season, they were relegated.

After play-off matches in Ankara, the team quickly returned to Süper Lig for the 2011–12 season. They initially defeated Konyaspor 4-0 at home and 2-0 away. Then, on May 27, 2012, they faced off against Adanaspor in the championship game, which they won 3-2. This was their third straight triumph in the play-off finals since 2007. They therefore represented their community in Süper Lig for the 2012–13 season.

Despite competing for a UEFA Europa League position all season and emerging as a dark horse in the league, Kasmpaşa finished sixth in the standings. Five points behind Bursaspor in fourth place, which was the final Europa League qualification spot. Since 2013, Kasmpaşa has continued to invest in and strengthen their team by luring well-known players like Ryan Babel from Ajax and striker Eren Derdiyok from the Bundesliga.
