Following a restructuring of his contract, McDaniels then accepted a one-year, non-guaranteed offer for $507,000 on October 1 that would make him a restricted free agency in 2015.

He then went on to have a strong rookie season. KJ McDaniels became one of the 76ers’ key players off the bench and being well-known for his shot-blocking abilities. On November 29, in a defeat to the Dallas Mavericks, he then notched his first double-double of his career with season highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Houston Rockets (2015–2017)
