News on Manchester city

Erling Haaland alone, according to Pep Guardiola, won’t be enough for Manchester City to win the Champions League.

Rodrigo: Each member of the squad will play a crucial part.
The Norwegian arrived in the summer after spending two and a half seasons with Borussia Dortmund, scoring 86 goals in 89 games.
And in Europe, the striker’s performance has been maybe even more astonishing, scoring 23 goals in 19 games in the Champions League.
With 10 goals in his first six games in the Premier League, Haaland has maintained his impressive form, breaking the previous high.
While expressing his happiness with how Haaland has adjusted, Guardiola is adamant that City will only succeed when every member of his team is performing at their very best.
“It makes sense that the club brought all of the guys here to help us get better,”

More on that

“We won’t win the Champions League if we put all of our hopes on Erling’s shoulders. Hopefully, we will succeed. We persuaded him to come here, so he did. He thought he could play with us even though we were without a striker. He has gotten along well with Julian and the other newcomers, for example.
“I absolutely see why Erling is the topic of discussion, but I have six new players who I want to integrate as soon as feasible.
Erling has a rare talent, so he can absolutely assist us overcome challenges, but we won’t win solely because of him. However, we won’t succeed if we don’t play well.

City’s traveling group for Sevilla is made public
Guardiola will also be missing Kyle Walker and John Stones for Sevilla’s opening UEFA Champions Group G match on Tuesday at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Walker left our 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday with 10 minutes remaining, while Stones exercised on Monday morning in Manchester but did not travel to Spain. Due to the muscular ailments to both players, Manuel Akanji, a recent addition, might make his La Liga debut.
Kyle and John have injuries, according to Guardiola.
Stones arrived this morning in good spirits.
Because of Akanji’s presence, which is a blessing, the club worked quickly to bring in players that fit this position. “John and Nathan [Ake] are currently not entirely dependable week in and week out. But that is how things are. The players can’t keep up with this demanding situation for very long with this insane schedule.

Brighton FC News

Amazing statistics from Leicester’s thrashing, according to Albion Analytics

When Brighton defeated Leicester at the Amex on Sunday, it was the first time in 364 top-flight games that they scored five goals. With the victory, the Albion have matched their club-record-breaking start from the previous campaign, in which they also collected 13 points from the opening six games. Last year, Brighton defeated Leicester at home for their fourth victory of the campaign (2-1). But under Potter, Brighton has set new records for the most goals scored (11), most xG (11.26) and goal differential (+6) in a season’s opening six games, while impressively giving up fewer xGA than ever before (5.66). Brighton’s fourth-place finish is obviously an improvement over their previous best, which was sixth after six games in the previous season (2021/22).

Opta stats

Among the first six matchdays of this season, according to Opta data, Brighton’s performance was the best in terms of final third pass accuracy (75%), open-play passing sequences of 10+ passes (22), open-play crosses (15), and major chance creation (4). Impressively, it had the fewest clearances (5), which shows how effectively Brighton controlled play and the playing area.
The Premier League game in which Brighton had the most shots (23), xG (2.76), and shots on target (11) this season also featured a season-best 21.7% conversion rate. They had the most shots on target of any non-“big-six” team. At 2-2 at the break, the game was evenly matched, thus Brighton needed a dominating second half performance to win all three points. Despite having less possession in the second half, Albion outshot Leicester (12 to 2), had more shots on target (9 to 1), more big chances (3 to 0), more passes in the final third (73 to 14), and even more tackles and interceptions (17 to 14). Their finest top-flight home run in 40 years was extended in an appropriate manner.

Goal scorers so far

A total of eight of Brighton’s ten starting outfielders fired a shot, with Solly March (six), Danny Welbeck (four), Alexis Mac Allister (four), Moises Caicedo (three), Pascal Gross (two), and Enock Mwepu (two) all firing multiple shots to highlight the variety of Albion’s attacking threat. Graham Potter praised the performance as “a wonderful team effort” following the game.
Brighton had four different goal scorers (own goal, Alexis Mac Allister, Leandro Trossard, and Moises Caicedo), with seven different players recording multiple shot-creating activities. Leandro Trossard was once more helped by Pascal Gross, who received his second assist of the year. Six Premier League pairs have already combined for multiple goals this season, making them one of them.

In the second half, the Belgian gave Brighton the lead by winning a penalty for Mac Allister after beating Ndidi with a dribble and being dragged over by the defender. Trossard leads all Brighton players in chance creation carries (10) and leads the team in successful open-play passes and crosses into the box (19), touches in the opposing box (35) and dribbles (11)

Best performer so far

But Mac Allister was the Sunday game’s player of the match. According to SofaScore’s player ratings, he has been Albion’s best player in four of the team’s last six games (against Leicester, Fulham, West Ham, and Newcastle), and their algorithm rates that as the finest individual Brighton performance so far this season.
Mac Allister joins Lewis Dunk and Pascal Gross as the only other players from Brighton to have scored a direct free-kick goal in the Premier League.

Across Brighton’s first six games, the Argentine is the team’s top performer for passes made under pressure (47), passes completed to the final third (29), tackles plus interceptions (26), pressures and successful pressures (113 and 42), and ball recoveries (77). The 23-year-old is in charge of games both with and without the ball after adapting to a deeper-lying role very effortlessly.
Despite having three penalties awarded to him, Mac Allister has converted all three of them without the goalkeeper touching any of them, demonstrating his ability to hit with both force and accuracy. Mac Allister has four goals, which is one goal short of matching his total from last season. Only four Premier League players have more goals than him.

New contract for Devine

Alfie Devine has renewed his agreement with the Club, which will keep him with the organization through 2027. The 18-year-old midfielder joined our Academy in the summer of 2020, and after making an impression at the Under-18 and Development Squad levels, he advanced to make his first team debut in an FA Cup match against Marine in January 2021, becoming the Club’s youngest player and goalscorer at the senior level. Alfie joined the England Under-19s in June 2022 for the European Championship in Slovakia along with Academy graduate Dane Scarlett, who is currently on loan at Portsmouth. Ahead of Marseille, the most recent squad news includes an update on Lucas and Antonio’s rotation: “I know every player wants to play Champions League.”

As we are ready to return to the UEFA Champions League battlefield against Marseille at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night, Antonio Conte has good news on Lucas Moura (8pm). Lucas, who was last in the matchday squad for the victory against Wolves on August 20, is anticipated to start exercising outside once more at Hotspur Way tomorrow. Bryan Gil is also once again accessible. After Tuesday’s practice, Antonio told SPURSPLAY: “We only have one player that needs to recover, Lucas. I am aware that he will begin practicing on the field again the next day, which is wonderful news because Lucas is a crucial member of our team and we must have all of our players accessible.

“Since we play every three days, it’s critical for me to be able to rotate the starting XI without sacrificing the starting XI’s caliber.
Lucas will recover sooner than expected, which is fantastic news for us.

Prior to Saturday’s Premier League match against Fulham, Antonio made five changes, and the club impressed with a strong showing in a 2-1 victory.
Given the challenging schedule that lies ahead—Marseille, a trip to City on Saturday (5.30 p.m.), and Sporting away in Lisbon on Tuesday (5.45 p.m.)—as well as the players’ outstanding play—remember, the team is currently undefeated in 12—Antonio was informed that he must make some difficult choices.
“Yes, tough decisions, because… I was a player in the past and I know very well that every player wants to participate in this kind of match, Champions League, the most significant competition in the world, I know.

The following game is versus City, followed by another Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon, therefore I need to try to select the best starting XI and come up with the proper solutions. In all honesty, it’s not easy. I started thinking about how to approach each game when I woke up early this morning, around six, but I should proceed cautiously and keep my attention on this particular game because a strong start is crucial for us. We must be eager to participate in the Champions League once more and relish this time with our supporters.

Manchester United news

Marcus is a major factor in Manchester United’s recent resurgence,
Rashford’s position on the team and his lethal sneak attacks against the opposition
defence. The debate panel this week, which included former Reds player David May, holds that opinion.
James Robson and Carl Anka, both journalists, as well as Ben Thornley. With three goals and two assists in six games this season, Rashford is United’s leading scorer.
In the 3-1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, our no. 10 played a crucial role in setting up Antony’s goal and escaping to score a second-half double and steal the game from the Gunners.

Marcus’s best place may still be outside on the left or as a striker, but the Debate boys noted that his pace in the more center spot is giving opposing teams trouble. There are more people who can get such passes in behind the defenses now that he is playing up front, according to Anka. “Marcus is doing that a lot more frequently in recent games.

More on Rashford

He is lagging behind more and is less likely to give up if it doesn’t work the first or second time. He wasn’t getting much fun out of Gabriel for the whole of the game prior to the first goal against Arsenal. He’s fronting him up and is quite strong. He recovers quickly, so he can catch up. Rashford makes a typical center-forward play by switching to the other center-back, William Saliba, just before the goal. And that’s terrific because he scored. He is a player who has regained his confidence, and I believe that the other attacking players also exhibit same confidence.

May, who used to play center back, highlighted why Rashford’s location is giving defenders such problems.
Playing against a speedy center-forward while high up is the worst, he continued.
“You’re dead if you’re up against Bruno and Christian Eriksen, who can pass the ball behind you on the first try. You simply don’t have the time to return if you are playing at that level. You won’t be able to turn around once he is in front of you because he is lightning. A new manager may infuse players with new ideas, as I stated at the start of the season. A certain extent, Jadon Sancho, who was great in preseason, Marcus right now, and [Anthony] Martial are scoring goals.

“The forwards have a really good energy. A defender’s worst nightmare is that if you play the right balls, they will score goals. Even though Rashford scored three goals while playing for Liverpool and Arsenal, not every effort gets a reward. Thornley, however, thinks that the most noteworthy quality is tenacity, particularly in light of a year or two that fell short of Marcus’s lofty expectations.

Marcus’s selfless running, to me, is not surprising. That was the assessment from Thornley, who recently had one of the best seats in the house as MUTV’s co-commentator.
He will timing his run, receive the proper pass, and be through on goal, just like with Liverpool and Arsenal. No one will be able to catch him once he gets going like that with a three- or four-yard start. The fact that he has repeatedly found himself in that predicament—given the few seasons he has played, his mentality, and what must have been going through his mind on both occasions—and still managed to win the game for us, is what strikes me as most astounding.
“He’s been great, honestly, he has,”
