Club Career

Rashford began playing football at the age of five for Fletcher Moss Rangers, beginning as a goalkeeper, and cites former United goalkeeper Tim Howard as his goalkeeping idol. Fletcher Ross Rangers academy development officer Dave Horrocks recalls Rashford being on a “different level” than the other boys, playing a key role in the team’s victory in a tournament attended by 15 scouts from various clubs.

He spent a week training with Manchester City before joining the Manchester United academy system at the age of seven, despite interest from Everton and Liverpool. He credited his brothers with convincing him to join United. Former Manchester United youth coach Paul McGuinness quickly recognized Rashford’s potential because of his athleticism both on and off the field.

Season 2015-16: Debut

He’s a fantastic young player. I definitely see some of myself in him he’s brave, fast, and very good with the ball. I believe strikers must be hungry to score, and I see that in him. He has a bright future ahead of him.

In 2016, Rashford warmed up for Manchester United.
Due to an injury crisis that saw 13 players injured, Rashford was included in the 18-man squad for United’s UEFA Europa League round of 32, second leg tie against Danish club Midtjylland on February 25, 2016.

Season 2016-17: European triumph

Rashford will be playing for Manchester United in 2016.
Rashford was given the number 19 by new manager José Mourinho for the new season to mark his place in the senior squad. The signing of veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovi meant he was frequently forced to settle for a place on the substitutes bench, though Ibrahimovi praised Rashford as a “huge talent” and “the future of England” upon his signing.

Rashford scored his first goal of the season against Hull City on August 27, 2016, scoring in the second minute of injury time after replacing Juan Mata in the 71st minute.

Season 2019-20: COVID-19 & Project Restart

Rashford signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United on July 1, 2019, keeping him at the club until June 2023, with the option to extend by another year. Rashford scored twice in a 4-0 win over Chelsea in the first week of the season. In September 2019, following a period of poor form, Solskjaer stated that he was not concerned about Rashford’s dip in form and lack of goals. Towards the end of October, a return to form saw Rashford score in a 1-1 draw with rivals Liverpool, ending their 17-match winning streak.

Marcus is talented, grounded, and driven enough to become a legend at this club. In and out of the dressing room, he is a true Manchester United fan. I am overjoyed with his contribution, and he understands what Man United is all about. He possesses the DNA.

Rashford came on in the 63rd minute for Anthony Elanga in a 1-0 win against West Ham on 22 January 2022, going on to score a 93rd-minute winner; the goal meant he had scored more last-minute winners in Premier League history (four) than any other player, and new manager Ralf Rangnick responded by saying Rashford was “one of the top strikers in England” despite a poor run of form.

Season 2022-23

After a successful pre-season under new manager Erik ten Hag, Rashford started the season as both a center-forward and a left-winger, and he opened his season account by scoring in a 2-1 win against Liverpool, and then twice in a 3-1 win against Arsenal; with an additional two assists, Rashford matched his total goal involvements from the previous season.
