The Golden State Warriors point guard, who has played for Team USA’s senior national squad since 2010, is one of the foremost three-point shooters in the NBA. Born on the 14th March, 1988, to former NBA player Dell Curry and American Educator, Sonya Curry, Wardell Stephen “Steph” Curry II is a pro Basketball player who plays as a point guard for the Golden State Warriors of the NBA.

Steph was born in Akron, Ohio, at Summa Akron City Hospital and grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, where his dad, Dell Curry, played for the Charlotte Hornets for the majority of his professional life. Dell often took Steph Curry and his younger brother Seth to his games and introduced them to basketball at a young age. High School Career

Stephen had his first six years of basic education at Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman founded by his parents When the family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. While Stephen was at basic school, his education was not a distraction from the game of basketball which he fell in love with as a baby. In fact, basic school taught him how to learn at his own pace, harness his strength, work on his weaknesses and develop a sense that he could achieve anything.

After joining Davidson College, Stephen Curry played his first collegiate game against Eastern Michigan. While he could only score 15 points in the game, committing 13 turnovers, he showed his mettle in the next game against Michigan, scoring 32 points. He became the second scorer in the nation to have an average of 21.5 points per game. Thus earning the title “Southern Conference Freshman of the Year” that season.

Stephen followed up his record-breaking 122 three-pointers as a freshman in the first season with an even more impressive performance in the 2007-08 season. He led Davidson Wildcats to their first ‘NCAA Tournament’ since 1969, and helped his team continue its winning streak for 22 games. During his junior year, he became Davidson’s all-time leading scorer with 34 points. He also scored a career-high 44 points against Oklahoma on November 18, 2008. In addition he surpassed the previous scoring leader, John Gerdy, in total points and became the ‘NCAA’ scoring leader that season.

NBA Career

Stephen Curry left Davidson College without completing his senior year to play in the NBA. He entered the 2009 NBA draft, in which he was selected by the Warriors with the seventh overall pick. Curry made an immediate impact with the Warriors, becoming the team’s starting point guard and averaging 17.5 points per game in his first season. Showcasing his shooting skill right from the beginning, hence he scored a record 166 three-pointers as a rookie in the league history. However, repeated injuries and the fact that he played for a weak team kept him out of the limelight during the next two seasons.

During the 2012-13 season, he recovered fully from his ankle sprain. Subsequently, he and his teammate Klay Thompson earned the nickname “The Splash Brothers” for their record combined three-pointers in a season. During the season, Stephen alone scored 272 three-pointers to set an NBA record. He repeated that feat the following season (with 261) and earned his first All-Star selection.

He also made a record 288 3-pointers with the warriors in the 2014-2015 season and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. Curry propelled the Warriors to the franchise’s first title in 40 years over the Cleveland Cavaliers the following season.

He continued to break a number of records during the 2015-16 season, including his own record to take the new maximum three-pointers tally to 402 and earned his second MVP award for his efforts and became the first person to be voted MVP unanimously.

A knee injury limited Curry to 51 games during the 2017–18 regular season, however, Curry continued his dazzling play in 2018–19, averaging 27.3 points per game and earning first-team All-NBA honours. Additional injuries and inspired play by the opposing Toronto Raptors led to a six-game Golden State loss in the finals.

The Warriors entered the 2019–20 season shorthanded after losing fellow All-Stars Kevin Durant (departure via free agency) and Klay Thompson (season-ending injury during the 2019 finals). Curry himself played in just five games during that campaign after breaking his hand early in the season, which led to the Warriors having a league-worst record. In December 2021 Curry made yet another mark in the NBA history books by scoring his 2,974th career three-pointer, breaking the NBA record for all-time three-point field goals scored.
