The West Hillsborough Times newspaper which dwells in Dunedin, Florida on the Pinellas Peninsula, serves as a root or base for the St. Petersburg Times. As at then, it didn’t have a standard location for making publications. Meanwhile, it could boast of a circulation of 480.

For over seventeen years, it has experienced various owners and reformation. When it was under the ownership of A.C. A merger occurred between the Evening Independent and the St. Petersburg Times in November 1986. This saw the replacement of Poynter with Eugene Patterson as the editor.

The Renaming Of St. Petersburg Times

The St. Petersburg Times continued to bear the name till it changed to the Tampa Bay Times in January 1, 2012. Then, four years later, it went on to buy its big rival, The Tampa Tribune. The public perceived the Tampa Bay Times to be more ‘liberal’, while the Tampa Tribune is more ’conservative’.

After this merger, The Times started having higher number of circulations, standing against the likes of The Lakeland Ledger, The Polk County Democrat, and Florida Heartland.
