Yuga Labs Has Acquired The CryptoPunks And Meebits IP

Bored Ape Yacht Club Developers, Yuga Labs Has Acquired The CryptoPunks And Meebits IP, Which Are Currently The Most Valuable NFT Collections

I have some exciting information to share with you today: Yuga has bought @LarvaLabs’s CryptoPunks and Meebits collections, and the first thing we’re doing is providing NFT holders with full commercial rights. We accomplished the same thing for BAYC and MAYC ownership.

On March 11th, 2022, the founders of the most famous and valuable NFT collection by market capitalization, Bored Ape Yacht Club, have made an announcement that shocked the NFT space. It agreed to buy the original NFT PFP collection, CryptoPunks, and Meebits from Larva Labs on Saturday, March 12. Larva Labs’ lack of communication and instruction on the IP rights problem irritated some CryptoPunks owners. Yuga Labs has made it explicitly clear that the holders have complete marketing rights. We have no plans to do anything other than offer individuals complete marketing rights, watch what they create, and observe.

What Next Should Yuga Laboratories Do?

The acquisition of the IP for these two significant NFT projects is part of a multi-pronged approach by Yuga Labs. Moreover, Yuga Labs acquired 432 CryptoPunks and 1,811 Meebits, putting a sizeable portion of both collections in their hands.

Developers can now incorporate Meebits and CryptoPunks collections into their Web3 offers, thanks to updated commercial rights for Meebits and CryptoPunks holders. They will not, however, receive BAYC’s “club” treatment, despite the fact that they will gain additional utility.

Should Yuga Labs Sell The NFTs It Has Procured?

It’s only natural to wonder how Yuga Labs would deal with the newly acquired CryptoPunks and Meebits properties.

CryptoPunks currently has a price cap of roughly 78 ETH, up 13.96 percent from a week earlier. The floor for Meebits has grown to almost 6 ETH, a 101.6 percent growth in one fortnight.

With such real offer floors, Yuga Labs may believe it has a good chance to cash in by selling the acquired assets. The team, on the other hand, intends to include both collections in its long-term goals. That means the club is unlikely to sell all of its newly acquired assets in the coming days.

However, there will be no immediate impact on CryptoPunks or Meebits owners in this instance. Everyone will continue to have access to their assets, which will not change.

Would My CryptoPunk or Meebit be Affected by This Procurement?

CryptoPunks and Meebits owners, on the other side, may look forward to a new path that will increase the utility and versatility of both collections. In the short term, there could be a price hike for these collections, as there’s already a greater feeling of lengthy purpose. While CryptoPunks and Meebits have large followings, Larva Labs was never certain about their long-term durability or usefulness. Yuga Labs wants to hear from the community on ways to make these two collections more useful. Because CryptoPunks is a “historical” collection, and Meebits has a much greater Metaverse potential than these other collections, they will not merge with Bored Ape Yacht Club or Mutant Ape Yacht Club.

How Does This Affect Larva Labs?

A fascinating development is Yuga Labs’ acquisition of the CryptoPunks and Meebits IP. Over the last five years, Larva Labs has created a reputation for itself in the NFT industry. Meebits is an online identity avatar solution for the Metaverse, and CryptoPunks is the all-time leading NFT collection for all trading volume.

Larva Labs, on the other hand, acknowledges that they are creators, not project operators or community managers. Managing public relations and day-to-day management of initiatives like Meebits and CryptoPunks demand different talents and talent than having a creative idea. Yuga Labs and Larva Labs have a lot in common, but they work well together. As a result, Larva Labs chose to take over the operations of CryptoPunks and Meebits to a new group.

The IP of both projects was acquired, including the majority of the developer-owned Punks and Meebits. Both collections will play a key role in Yuga Labs’ future ambitions because NFT holders will be granted commercial rights to their holdings.

Larva Labs, on the other hand, will keep operating its Autoglyphs project as a distinct corporation. Furthermore, the team works on new concepts, albeit no specifics on what those ideas will involve are available at this time.
