ES Troyes AC FC

Troyes, or Espérance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne (ESTAC), is a French association football team located in Troyes that competes in Ligue 1. After AS Troyes-Savinienne and Troyes AF, it was created in 1986 as the city’s 3rd major club.

In 2001, Troyes won the Intertoto Cup by defeating Newcastle United on the away goals system following a 4–4 overall result.

ES Troyes AC’s History

Previous Troyes clubs (1900–1979)

Union Sportive Troyenne, Troyes’ oldest football club, was founded in 1900. (UST). It joined with the AS Savinienne, a club from Troyes’ outskirts, to establish the Association Sportive Troyenne et Savinienne in 1931. (ACTS). In 1935, the recently established team went official and entered Ligue 2. With the direction of coach and ex-international player Roger Courtois (1952–1963), the team achieved the Première Division in 1954/55, with veterans like Abdelaziz Ben Tour, and Marcel Artelesa, and Pierre Flamion. It was one of the club’s most illustrious periods. As they made the Coupe de France championship in 1956 when they were defeated 3–1 by CS Sedan Ardennes.

The club’s young squad earned the Coupe Gambardella, the French Youth Cup, on that exact day. That year, the club was relegated to Division 2 after failing to maintain its spot in the French top flight. It ultimately returned to the Première Division in 1960, although only for one term before being demoted in 1961. Due to monetary issues, the club was forced to retire from official football after the 1962–1963 season, in which they ranked 17th out of 20 teams. They played 4 additional episodes at the regional scale. This was under the direction of Jacques Diebold, a longtime ASTS player, before disbanding.

Following a period in which Troyes lacked a big club, a fresh one was founded in 1967 under the moniker Troyes Omnisports, already on a regional basis. In 1970, it rebranded itself Troyes Aube Football (TAF) after regaining professionalism and being invited to the Third Division. After only one season, they were elevated to the Second Division. They placed second in their debut year in the Second Division. However, we were unable to gain advancement because there were 3 Second Division groups that term.

The following year, in 1973, they ranked #1 and did lose to RC Lens in the Champions final between the 2 new groups. Between 1973 to 1978, the team enjoyed the oldest active run in Ligue 1, having spent five seasons in the top league. It was, nevertheless, a challenging period, as the club battled eviction every season. René Cédolin, the previous manager of Stade Rennais, took over when Pierre Flamion quit in 1975. In 1976–1977, it was ranked 15th out of 20 countries.

Despite having several excellent athletes, like striker Gérard Tonnel (1972–1975, 107 matches, 69 goals in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2), right-back René Le Lamer (1973–1978), goalkeeper Guy Formici (1970–1978), and Yugoslavian winger Ilija Petkovic (1973–1976). In 1978, they were demoted after ranking 19th. They were relegated to the third tier after placing 17th in the second tier two years in a row. As a result of this, the club went bust and merged with Patronage Laque de Troyes. Rendering Troyes even without a senior football team for the second time.

Present-day club ATAC/ESTAC (since 1986)

Following the demise of Troyes’ second professional team, several persons attempted to resurrect a new club capable of regaining professionalism. Initially, in 1979, shortly after the TAF’s demise, they united the TAF’s minor squads with the Patronage Laque de Troyes. Becoming the PL Foot, once more under the direction of Jacques Diebold. In 1984, the team barely made it to the 4th tier, however, was demoted following just one season, placing 17th. Maurice Cacciaguerra, Angel Masoni, and others agreed to form the Association Troyes Aube Champagne (ATAC) to replace the PL Foot in the French sixth tier, Division d’Honneur, regionally.

During its debut season, the young team won the title and was admitted to the fourth tier in 1987. In 1990, they emerged top in the Fourth Division and advanced to the Third Division after just 3 seasons. Notwithstanding having a strong following all through the ensuing three seasons, the team was unable to secure admission to the Second Division.

The team was moved to the newly established Nationale 2, the new 4th tier of French football, owing to the reorganization of French football leagues in 1993. Angel Masoni, the new president, asked Alain Perrin to oversee the team. He would go on to be Troyes’ most famous coach, serving for 9 years, from 1993 to 2002. He won the Nationale 2 in his debut year, and ATAC was elevated to the Nationale 1 in 1994. Troyes ranked 10th the next year. Before earning 2nd in 1995–1996 and being elevated to Ligue 2. Troyes was practicing league football for the 1st occasion since 1979.

Troyes’ debut season was a struggle, as they placed 20th out of 22 clubs. Surviving in the second level only because FC Perpignan and FCO Charleville ran out of money. Attributed to the prevalence of athletes more accustomed to this stage. Like Frédéric Adam, Richard Jeziersky, David Hamed, Samuel Boutal, supporters’ favorite Slaan uki, and regional competitors, like captain Mohammed Bradja, they placed 5th in 1997–1998, and 3rd in 1998–1999. Within the first half of the season, Troyes seized the lead. Even though the second half was tougher, the squad ended third, only on goal percentage, after a last-minute victory against AS Cannes. However, most crucially, Troyes has been elevated to Ligue 1 for the first time in 21 years.

Troyes placed 14th in their debut season in Ligue 1 in 1999/2000, escaping demotion. Owing to concerns from a French cheap grocery chain with an identical name, ATAC was renamed ESTAC after the season. In the following two editions, they placed seventh again. Advancing for the Intertoto Cup for the 1st occasion in their existence in 2001 and 2002. They overcame Newcastle United in an incredible Intertoto Cup return leg final, which concluded 4–4 at St James’ Park, in 2001, with players Jérôme Rothen, Rafik Safi, Tony Heurtebis, Fabio Celestini, and Nicolas Goussé in the team.

They fell 4-5 on overall to Leeds United after winning the 2nd leg 3–2. And missed advancing to the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup after defeating Slovakian MFK Ruzomberok (6–1; 0–1). The next year, they defeated Villareal CF of Spain, tying 0–0 in the initial leg, and winning 2–1 in the second.

The victory was overturned, though, because Troyes used a prohibited player, David Vairelles. ESTAC was dismissed by UEFA, and Villareal assumed their position. Troyes was not saved by the dismissing of new coach Jacky Bonnevay and the appointment of Faruk Hadzibegic in January. They were demoted to Ligue 2 after finishing last in Ligue 1.

Troyes escaped insolvency due to the new President Thierry Gomez’s leadership, finishing 10th in the subsequent season. Jean-Marc Furlan, who managed amateur team Libourne Saint-Seurin in the Coupe de France, was named manager in 2004. With the help of two teenage attackers on loan, Sébastien Grax from AS Monaco and Bafétimbi Gomis from AS Saint-Etienne, the team achieved elevation by coming third during his first season.

In the manner of the previous manager Alain Perrin, the team featured some excellent football. In 2005–2006, the team remained in Ligue 1, however, lost the next season (2006–07), ending in 18th place. Denis Troch took over as manager when Furlan resigned after the season.

Troch was fired at the end of the season after having failed to earn advancement, with Troyes collecting just 4 points in the final 11 matches of the league and ending in the sixth position after being in the leading 3 for the bulk of the season. Ludovic Batelli was hired the following season, although he had to fight demotion. In April 2009, he was fired, and temporary manager Claude Robin, who had formerly served as Troyes’ director of the organization, failed to save the club from demotion.

Also with a club in monetary trouble once more, Thierry Gomez dropped out as president and was succeeded by Daniel Masoni, the son of the previous president Angel Masoni. Daniel Masoni hired Patrick Rémy to take over as manager in July 2009. Rémy was successful in returning Troyes to Ligue 2 in 2010, placing third in the National Championnat. Remy resigned in June 2010 following a dispute with president Masoni, and Jean-Marc Furlan took over as manager. The team finished 16th in Ligue 2 in the 2010–2011 season. Following a sluggish opening to the fresh season, fortunes increased as the season progressed. Events brightened dramatically, and Troyes became a serious contender for advancement.

On May 11, 2012, they did it with a victory against AS Monaco in the 37th match of the season. Troyes climbed into the leading 3 with important victories against arch-rivals Sedan, with a goal in the final minute from right-back Djibril Sidibé, and then Clermont, which was #3 at the moment.

With athletes like Marcos and Mounir Obbadi, a solid defense headed by Rincón, Julien Outrebon, Matthieu Saunier, and Stephen Drouin, and also left back Fabrice N’Sakala and right back Djibril Sidibé, both Academy graduates, and also midfielders Julien Faussurier and captain Eloge Enza Yamissi, the team did exactly what no one anticipated at the start of the episode. They had a solid 2nd half of the league, only losing four times, drawing five times, and winning ten times (with just one loss in the 10 last games of the season). Troyes returned to Ligue 1 5 years after their previous appearance, and just 2 seasons after spending time in the level 3.

Stade de l’Aube (Aube Stadium)

In Troyes, France, the Stade de l’Aube is a multi-purpose stadium. Troyes AC now uses it primarily for football games. The stadium, which was erected in 1956, has a capacity of 20,400 spectators.

ES Troyes Fc’s Owner

City Football Group

City Football Group Limited (CFG) is a corporate company that manages football teams in the United Kingdom. The Abu Dhabi United Group owns 78 percent of the company, Silver Lake owns 10%, and China Media Capital and CITIC Capital control the remaining 12%.

Manchester City F.C. is the group’s premier football club, and it also serves as the club’s parent organization. CFG holds clubs in the United States, Australia, India, Japan, Spain, Uruguay, China, Belgium, and France.

Background

City Football Group was established in 2013 as the realization of ex Barcelona Economy Vice President Ferran Soriano’s commercial ambition. While at Barcelona, Soriano originally dreamed of the notion of a worldwide football institution, commencing with the establishment of Barca-branded international institutions.

Soriano approached Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber about forming a Barcelona-branded MLS team, and the two went much further than staring into many potential sites, but their arrangements were eventually thwarted when Soriano and seven other participants of Barcelona’s board of directors decided to quit in demonstrations of then-President Joan Laporta’s governance.

Manchester City F.C.

Manchester City embarked on a full revamp of all areas after its acquisition, to quickly ascend to the top. On the pitch, the team was removed twice in the preceding seasons, first under Mark Hughes and then again under Roberto Mancini, as accepted UEFA Champions League clubs in the Premier League lobbied the Manchester team to take immediate action to accomplish Champions League prestige before the recently introduced Financial Fair Play Regulations made it unworkable for teams to pay beyond their revenues in an attempt to be more successful in the chart.

Off the ground, City paid £10 million reworking their Platt Lane training school ground as they developed proposals for a £100 million schooling and academy institution on land adjacent to their stadium, having studied sports facilities from around the globe to produce the world’s best evolution in its ground.

This happened after they announced in 2014 that they had won construction permits to expand their stadium to over 62,000 seats, seeking to make it England’s second-biggest club stadium.

More money was invested in the area of fan involvement, with City committing to a strategy of capturing the worldwide preference battle with a massive show of social networks.

Pep Guardiola, an ex FC Barcelona player, and manager who now coaches FC Bayern Munich, has been Manchester City’s coach from the beginning of the 2016–17 term.

In April 2022, a review from Der Spiegel predicated on disclosed confidential paperwork asserted that the Abu Dhabi shareholders had originally made payouts into the club camouflaged as endorsement pension contributions by Emirati companies like Etihad and Etisalat (the same allegations that the club had satisfactorily upheld at CAS in 2020); Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group had supposedly obliquely paid for teenage athletes to register with the club; as well as that the club had supposedly utilized a fictitious conglomerate to transfer money The Premier League has been investigating the 3 incidents for the last 3 years. The club responded by dismissing these reports as inaccurate, with people connected to the club claiming that the article was one of an “orchestrated effort” and an “endless attempt to harm us.”

Women’s Manchester City

Even though Manchester City Women had been around since 1988 (formerly known as Manchester City Ladies F.C.), they were just an external associate of the club until August 2012, with little common assets and no authority over the club’s administration. 4 years after Manchester City was purchased, a deal was negotiated wherein the connected women’s team would be fully controlled by Manchester City and thus became a dept of the very same company.

New York City FC II

New York City FC agreed to join the American Major League Soccer as the twentieth expansion franchise in 2013. And they competed for the first time in 2015, with Orlando City SC.

They are City Football Group’s only team that has been established from the ground up. NYCFC is managed by CFG to the tune of 80%, with the leftover 20% held by Yankee Global Enterprises, the parent corporation of the New York Yankees baseball team, at whose home ground they compete.

Claudio Reyna, a longtime Manchester City, and United States national team player, was hired as the club’s initial staff. And oversaw most of the early development until leaving in 2019.

New York City FC II

MLS projected the formation of a new division in late 2021, which the USSF designated as a third-tier league in the US football league structure.
The New York City Football Club was recognized as one of the 21 founding members. To that goal, they formed New York City FC II, a development squad (often regarded as NYCFC II or NYCFC2).

Melbourne City FC

Melbourne City was founded as a new organization in 2010 with the identity Melbourne Heart. And is one of seven expansion teams in the A-League Men.

As a result, they were the first team to join the A-League in a city where the league previously existed. Igniting a feud with founding partner Melbourne Victory in what is currently recognized as the Melbourne derby.

Despite winning the inaugural Melbourne derby, the Heart had a dismal start to the league. Only made the playoffs once in the first 4 seasons and finished worst in the 2013–14 season.

Melbourne’s Young People

Melbourne City had their request approved as a piece of the extension of the National Premier Leagues Victoria 1 (unfortunately recognized as NPL Victoria) to play a team patterned on their now-defunct Youth side in the league, together with 5 more newcomers. They revealed the formation of an NPL team on Dec 6, 2014, with play beginning in the 2015 league.

Women of Melbourne

CFG declared its continuing commitment to women’s football with the development of a women’s section in Melbourne in 2015, which was recognized as an extension squad in the W-League, after the effectiveness of their sponsorship in Manchester City’s women’s side.

The W-League has faced poor degrees of monetary backing for its female teams ever since the beginning. With teams seldom investing even 50% of their budget maximum. Melbourne City swept the board in their inaugural season. Going unbeaten throughout the game to wrap up both the league and playoff championships and establish a variety of milestones.

Melbourne City has achieved the Premiership on two occasions (in 2015–16 and 2019–20). As well as the title on 4 occasions in all (in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020).

Yokohama F. Marinos

Yokohama F. Marinos was created as a factory squad of automobile production powerhouse Nissan. And initially competed with the title Nissan Motors F.C., as with many other teams in Japan.

Even though the club switched its identity to Yokohama Marinos when it became official in 1993. Nissan has remained the dominant shareholder throughout their existence. After the Yokohama Flugels went bankrupt in 1999, the club combined with local competitors Yokohama F. Marinos, resulting in the present moniker Yokohama F. Marinos.

They are one of Japan’s most accomplished teams, having won the Japanese first division league championship six times. As well as 12 regional cups and two international titles.

Torque in Montevideo

Montevideo City Torque was founded in 2007 as Club Atlético Torque.
Because one of the group’s pioneers was electromechanical, and the organizers loved the notion of torque as a link between power and movement, the club was given the name Torque.

Starting in the third division, the last tier of the Uruguayan football tournament structure at the stage, the team steadily improved, winning entrance to the Segunda División in 2011 and finishing in the upper half of the list by 2015.

CFG declared the acquisition of Team Atletico Torque, a Montevideo-based club presently competing in Uruguay’s Primera División, on April 5, 2017.

The club was elevated to the Primera División for the inaugural occasion after winning the Segunda División by 9 pts.

Despite coming close to victory in the Torneo Intermedio and qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana, they were demoted after the season due to the Primera División demotion criteria, which saw the worst three clubs demoted relying on a two rolling mean of points per game.

Nonetheless, they would achieve the Segunda División in 2019 to reclaim their place in the top division.

In 2020, the club will change its identity to Montevideo City Torque and change its logo, while also declaring the establishment of a learning center and youth academy that will be among the finest in South America.

Torque Femenino de Monterrey

Montevideo City Torque announced the formation of a women’s squad in 2021, spurred on by City Football Group’s aim to develop and expand women’s sport; they drew 100 trialists to form both a senior and under-19 group.

The squad was swiftly assembled in time to compete in the Campeonato Femenino B, Uruguay’s second division of women’s football, in the 2021 season. They won all 7 of their Debut Phase matches in their initial edition, however, struggled in the Promotion Phase, losing out on a first-time promotion.

Girona

The City Football Group declared the purchase of 44.3 percent of Girona in La Liga on August 23, 2017. The Girona Football Group, run by Pere Guardiola, brother of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, controlled another 44.3 percent.

Manchester City had earlier leased several teams to Girona when they were in the Segunda División, in what others saw as a bid to entice Pep Guardiola to Manchester City.

Girona had two Manchester City loanees in August 2018, both of which were 21 years old.

B Girona

With the absorption of the previously autonomous side CF Riudellots in 2011, Girona has a subsidiary club titled precisely Girona B, in keeping with the Spanish practice of large teams maintaining B-teams as training teams for new signings.

At the period of CFG’s takeover of Girona, the club was playing in the Segona Catalana league, Spain’s sixth tier. Girona B, being an authorized B-team, is not qualified for advancement to a higher tier than any other Girona-affiliated squad in the divisions above them. It is also unable to participate in any cup tournament in which Girona is currently a participant.

Girona also had a major B-team, CF Peralada-Girona B, however, this squad was just affiliated with Girona and neither Girona nor CFG had any shareholding interest in the club.

Girona FC Femen A

Whilst they have had a women’s team since 2017, Girona Femen A was formed in 2020 when Girona bought the women ‘s department of home club Sant Pere Pescador and renamed it to reflect the club’s image.

Girona FC Femen B

Despite Girona FC having a senior women’s squad for a lot of years, cost considerations prompted them to end senior activities in 2013, so by 2017, the Catalan club only had three junior participants with a combined 41 young players in their program.

Just 2 months before CFG acquired Girona FC, the club revealed an extension of its female attribute, such as the reinstatement of the senior women’s squad, which would compete in Spain’s 5th division of women’s soccer.
