The “Boys Club of Alaska” was the original name of the Boys & Girls Clubs Of Alaska. It was incorporated in Anchorage in November 1966. Basketball intramurals, Babe Ruth baseball, and an after-school program were among the first activities offered.

The Girls Club joined the party in 1974! In the beginning, the programs in the Anchorage region included sports activities for females. The group then expanded throughout the 1970s with the opening of its own independent Clubhouse in Spenard.

Since then, the state of Alaska has 23 Clubhouses where Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska serves children and youth, aged 7 to 18. Ages 6 weeks to 10 years are catered for by our licensed childcare facility, the Child Development Center, for kids and families in the Anchorage region. Also included are the kids and teenagers in our athletics programs. This program includes basketball, volleyball, flag football, and both indoor and outdoor soccer. In 1974, the Girls Club joined the party! In the beginning, the programs in the Anchorage region included sports activities for females. The group expanded throughout the 1970s with the opening of its own independent Clubhouse in Spenard.

ALASKA’S BOYS & GIRLS CLUB, A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION

Since 1966, Alaska has been serviced by the nonprofit organization Boys & Girls Clubs-Alaska.

Under the name “Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska,” Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit corporation with an EIN number 92-0036082. Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska conducts an annual audit of its financial statements. They are also obliged to conduct an A-133 single federal audit and single state audit. This is because they receive funding from both the federal government and the state of Alaska via grants and other sources.

The Academy Program

Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska provides three program areas for Alaska’s youth: Clubhouse, Licensed Childcare, and Athletics.

CLUBHOUSE

Clubhouse programs provide before and after school care for children aged 7 to 18. We do this while implementing initiatives that promote academic achievement, character and leadership development, and leading active lives.

CENTER FOR CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Our Child Development Center is a registered childcare facility in Anchorage that offers care for kids from 6 weeks of age to 12 years old.

ATHLETICS

The year-round youth sports programs provided by BGC – Alaska Athletics are encouraging, enjoyable, and also assists children in understanding the real meaning of collaboration. Soccer, flag football, volleyball, basketball, and indoor soccer are among the sports available. BGC’s vision and mission for Alaskan athletics.

The mission of BGC – Alaska Athletics

To become the youth sports organization in Alaska that every kid wants to join, every volunteer wants to support, and every local company wants to sponsor. The goal of the sports program is to provide a secure, enjoyable athletics experience while keeping costs low for our Members and running the program responsibly. The following objectives will help us do that:

CHARACTERS OF THE ORGANIZATION

Security –

We work hard to make sure that everyone in our community is protected from physical, mental, emotional, and social damage. Also that they may fulfill their potential without fear of being mocked or attacked.

Cooperation –

We work together as a team, both on and off the field, being thoughtful, polite, respectful, and supportive of one another as we work to meet the objectives of each Member and Volunteer.

Transparent and accountable –

We shall accept responsibility for our own acts and also hold Members and Volunteers responsible for theirs, showing humility in the face of our errors and forgiving others’. We won’t criticize others (or ourselves) based on what is said or provide justifications for what is not done; rather, we will focus on what is done.

Integrity –

We hold ourselves, our Members, and our Volunteers to these high standards in our quest of higher expectations. We strive to be honest, trustworthy, principled, and courageous to make the morally correct choice, even if it’s an unpopular one.

Positivity –

We are committed to helping everyone of our Members and Volunteers achieve their objectives, no matter how large or little. We will always be the everlasting optimists, the hoper of distant hopes, and the dreamer of unlikely dreams.

Commitment –

Regardless of the difficulties encountered, we are committed to upholding our stated principles and working relentlessly to maintain equilibrium and concentration as we try to meet the objectives of our Members and Volunteers.

Influence

Boys and Girls Clubs bridge the distance between home and school. We provide warm, inviting spaces where children and teenagers may have a good time, take part in activities that change their lives. We also form dependable bonds with kind people and their peers.

We’re pleased with the work we’ve done to fill a gap in our state’s needs. We continued to have a good influence in 2020 by:

Alaska has 23 active club sites.

4,711 hours of service were performed by 294 volunteers.
