About St. Mirren F.C
Paisley is the home of the Scottish professional football team St. Mirren FC. After winning the Scottish Championship in 2017–18, Renfrewshire now plays in the Scottish Premiership. The Buddies and the Saints are the team’s two monikers, and they were founded in 1877.
Three times, in 1926, 1959, and 1987, St. Mirren won the Scottish Cup. In 2013, they also won the Scottish League Cup. The club has participated in four European competitions: the UEFA Cup in 1980–81, the UEFA Cup in 1983–84, and the UEFA Cup in 1985–86. They defeated Bristol City 5-1 over two legs in 1979–1980, making them the first Scottish side to ever win the Anglo Scottish Cup.

History
In the latter half of the 19th century, St. Mirren was founded as a gentlemen’s club that participated in, among other sports, cricket and rugby. Due to association football’s rising popularity, the club’s members decided to start playing it in 1877, which is also the club’s formal founding year. They have the name of Saint Mirin, the patron saint of Paisley and the founder of the chapel that stands where Paisley Abbey now stands. Paisley also has a street by the name of St. Mirren Street.

On October 6, 1877, St. Mirren played their first game, winning 1-0 against Johnstone Britannia at Shortroods. Two years later, the club relocated to Thistle Park in Greenhills, another field. On September 4, 1880, St. Mirren played in its first Scottish Cup game and defeated Johnstone Athletic 3-0. The following year, the Buddies made it to their first cup final but lost the Renfrewshire Cup to Thornliebank 3-1. However, the results were inverted in 1883, with the Saints defeating Thornliebank 3-1 to claim the Renfrewshire Cup. They relocated to their third residence in 1883, West March (early maps show the region as West March rather than the more frequent Westmarch), and won their first game there by beating Queen’s Park. St. Mirren’s first game versus Morton in 1885 ended in a loss.
