Sligo Rovers Football Club, also known as Cumann Peile Ruagair Sligo, is a professional Irish football team that competes in the League of Ireland‘s Premier Division.

Beginnings
On September 17, 1928, Sligo Town and Sligo Blues, two youth teams, merged to establish Sligo Rovers Football Club. On September 23, 1928, they played in the Connacht Cup qualifying round against Ballyshannon, a side from County Donegal in Ulster. They won 9-1. The club, which was founded in Sligo and was elected to the League of Ireland in 1934, has played all of its home games at the Showgrounds.
