    F.C. Guangzhou

A competitive Chinese football team, Guangzhou Football Club, previously Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao Football Club, competes in the Chinese Super League with permission from the Chinese Football Association. The squad is headquartered in Guangzhou, Guangdong, and the Tianhe Stadium, which has a 54,856 occupancy, serves as their home field. The Evergrande Real Estate Group (56.71%) and the e-commerce firm Alibaba Group (37.81%) are their largest shareholders, while its remaining shares are listed in the Chinese OTC market.

The club was established in 1954, and before going professional in 1993, it won a number of second-tier championships. Their performance rose, earning them a place as runners-up in China’s top division. The club experienced a phase of stagnation and deterioration due to its inability to build upon these performances before briefly experiencing a rebirth when they won the second tier in 2007. The club was penalized with demotion in 2009 when a match-fixing allegations surfaced.

The Evergrande Real Estate Group made the decision to buy the club and invested a sizable sum of money in the group. They received advancement right after, and in the 2011 season, they earned their first top-tier championship. The team won the AFC Champions League twice, in 2013 and 2015, making it the only Chinese football team to do so. The team, which debuted in 2013, is also the debut Chinese club to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The squad was estimated at Us$282 million in a 2016 Forbes article, the highest value of any Chinese football team, and had an operational deficit of more than US$200 million in 2015.

On October 26, 1977, Guangzhou made the uncommon decision to withdraw from the Chinese Football League and hired Luo Rongman to lead their young team in its place.

Until 1980, when it was judged they were old enough to compete in the senior football league structure, the team competed in the National Youth League. They began in the most current 3rd tier. The club’s investment in developing its young team paid off right away, as players like Mai Chao, Zhao Dayu, and afterwards Wu Qunli all shot to prominence as Chinese national team players. Up until they hit the top level, Guangzhou received advancements after advancements. Guangzhou was once again demoted at the conclusion of the 1982 league season. At the conclusion of the 1984 campaign, they gained access to the top level through the Chinese FA Cup. When Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. agreed to support the club for $200,000 a year as part of this advancement on October 1, 1984, the club became the first Chinese team to do so.

The Chinese Football Association increased its expectations on its football teams’ professionalism all through the 1990s. Following the Apollo Group acquired the team on January 8, 1993, Guangzhou became one of China’s earliest entirely competitive football clubs. The investment helped coach Zhou Sui’an put together a talented team. The best goal scorer honor went to Hu Zhijun. In the 1994 league season, Guangzhou was able to finish second.

After two times leading the squad to runner-up finishes in the division and a runners-up finish against Shanghai in the 1991 Chinese FA Cup, Zhou Sui’an exited the team the subsequent season. The club was unable to achieve the same achievements after his departure.

The team fell into a fast decline and was demoted at the conclusion of the 1998 league campaign when important international players Peng Weiguo and Hu Zhijun exited the club.

The inquiry was started after the management became conscious about the team ‘s results and it turned out that Wen Junwu and 3 other participants had collaborated with gambling organizations. They were instantly kicked out of the club.

The club was once more taken over by the Guangzhou Sports Bureau in 2001. It was thought that the club may pursue advancement with the help of a sizable investment from the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd.

A match-fixing incident surrounding Changchun Yatai, Chengdu Wuniu, Jiangsu Sainty, and Zhejing Greentown shook the division. To remove themselves from the negative press, Guangzhou’s new sponsors Geely promptly stopped supporting the team.

Before the Sunray Cave Group acquired over the club in 2004 and began to invest money in the aim of pressing for advancement, the team suffered through a difficult adjustment phase.

The Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals group was able to achieve their goal of being promoted after purchasing the club in 2006. The team earned both entrance into the Chinese Super League and the 2nd level championship in 2007.

Despite finishing tenth in the 2009 season, Guangzhou was demoted back to China League One in February 2010 as a result of a match-fixing incident.

The game in question was Guangzhou’s 5-1 league victory over Shanxi Wosen Luhu on August 19, 2006, while they were still competing in China League One. Police found evidence that Guangzhou vice presidents Wu Xiaodong and Xie Bin were aware of Yang Xu’s payment of 200,000 to Wang Po, the general manager of the opposition team, in order to secure a victory at home.

The club was placed up for sale after the fraudulent persons were given prison sentences.

For a sum of 100 million yen, Evergrande Real Estate Group acquired the club on Feb 28, 2010. Evergrande Real Estate Group chairman Xu Jiayin declared that more money would be invested in the transfer window.

His first move was to acquire Gao Lin, a striker for the Chinese national team, from Shanghai Shenhua, reportedly for a sum of $6 million.

He then abruptly substituted Peng Weiguo as head coach with Lee Jang-soo, an onetime manager of Beijing Guoan. On June 28, 2010, the club recruited Zheng Zhi, the captain of the Chinese national team, and Sun Xiang, the first Chinese football player to play in the UEFA Champions League with PSV Eindhoven. Atlético Mineiro of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A stated on June 30, 2010, that Guangzhou had paid a Brazilian record sum of 23 million to recruit Muriqui to a four-year contract.

Following defeating Hunan Billows 3-1 on October 30, 2010, Guangzhou won League One for a 2nd occasion and moved back to the Super League.

With the acquisition of Brazilian Cléo and Argentine Dario Conca during the 2011–12 campaign, Guangzhou Evergrande greatly bolstered their team.

Despite being raised to the Super League in the first season, the squad won the league championship with 4 matches left to play in late September 2011.

Guangzhou defeated South Korean winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors 5-1 in their inaugural AFC Champions League encounter in March 2012.

Additionally, Paraguayan Lucas Barrios joined Guangzhou Evergrande in the summer of 2012 after leaving German winners Borussia Dortmund.

South Korean defender Kim Young-gwon and Chinese midfielder Huang Bowen were both acquired by new head coach Marcello Lippi, who took over for Lee Jang-soo.

In the quarterfinals of the 2012 AFC Champions League, Guangzhou was eliminated after falling to Al-Ittihad 5-4 on total.

Since 2006, they became the first Chinese team to go to the quarterfinals. Guangzhou earned the league for the 2nd consecutive season in 2012, being the first team in China to do so. They also earned the Chinese FA Cup, making them double champions for the year.

Zeng Cheng, a Chinese goalkeeper, and Elkeson, a Brazilian, were added to Guangzhou Evergrande’s roster for the 2013 campaign.

Guangzhou benefited from this because they became the inaugural Chinese team to win the Super League 3 times straight.

The club also earned the 2013 AFC Champions League by beating FC Seoul in the championship match on the basis of away goals after the 1st and 2nd legs ended in draws of 2-2 in Seoul and 1-1 in Guangzhou, respectively. This made the club the first Chinese team to win the competition since 1990.

Guangzhou advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup after defeating the African winners Al-Ahly 2-0 after earning the AFC Champions League.

They suffered a 3-0 loss against European winners Bayern Munich in the semifinals.

The team came in fourth after losing to South American winners Atlético Mineiro 3-2 in the game for 3rd spot.

In 2014 and 2015, consecutively, Guangzhou earned its 4th and 5th straight Chinese Super League championships.

In the 2015 AFC Champions League Final, the club defeated Al-Ahli 1-0 on total to win its 2nd continental title.

Guangzhou defeated Club América 2-1 in the FIFA Club World Cup’s quarterfinals before falling to Barcelona 3-0 in the championship match.

Also Guangzhou finished in the same position as in the 2013 edition after losing the 3rd position game 2-1 to Hiroshima Sanfrecce.

Guangzhou Evergrande earned the Super League championship in 2019 for the 8th time, with Beijing Guoan coming in #2.

    Osijek, NK

Nogometni klub Osijek (English: Osijek Football Club), sometimes known as NK Osijek or just Osijek (pronounced [ôsijek] in Croatian), is an Osijek-based professional football team. It was established in 1947 and held the record for the most seasons played by a Slavic club in the Yugoslav First League. Following Croatia’s freedom in 1992, it is one of only 4 teams to have not ever been demoted from the Croatian First League, the others being Dinamo Zagreb, Hajduk Split, and Rijeka.

    Background Of NK Osijek

    Year 1947–1976

On February 27, 1945, NK Udarnik, the forerunner of NK Osijek, was established in the manner of the formerly-banned JK Slavija Osijek, which was created in 1916 and participated in the first Jugoslav league seven times between 1923 – 1941. The club merges with Jedinstvo in 1946 and adopts the identity NK Slavonija. When NK Slavonija and NK Bratstvo merged to establish the FK Proleter the subsequent year on February 27, 1947, this is traditionally regarded as the club’s birthday.

The first game under that moniker is on March 16 that year, when Proleter defeats Mladost, a city opponent, by a score of 5 to 0. The Osjeko Okruno Prvenstvo was the club’s debut contest, in which it took part alongside 4 other clubs. Shortly afterwards, the club was promoted to the second national division. After winning the so-called Croato-Slovenian League in 1953, Proleter was promoted to the Yugoslav First League. Andrija Veki, Franjo Rupnik, Dionizije Dvorni, and Franjo Majer were that team’s top performers.

After 3 seasons in the First League, Proleter was demoted to the 2nd League.

Proleter relocated to the present Gradski vrt stadium in the fall of 1958, and as portion of the operation of combining the boxing, athletics, and Olympic lifting clubs into a newly established sports association in 1962, it renamed to Slavonija. It continues to compete in league two. The association is dissolved 5 years afterwards, and the club adopts the identity NK Osijek. Red and blue from back then were changed to blue and white from now.

Osijek earned the second North League title in 1970, although Borac Banja Luka defeated them in the play-offs for advancement. One year afterwards, Bijelo-plavi make another attempt to get promoted, beating Rijeka on penalties, however Vardar manages to stop them.

In 1973, Osijek made it to the advancement play-offs for the second time. NK Osijek defeated FC Prishtina to advance to the championship round. After winning, NK Osijek was scheduled to play NK Zagreb at the Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb. 64,129 seats were issued, setting a milestone, with about 20,000 going to Osijek fans. After a 2-2 tie upon 90 mins, NK Zagreb claimed victory on the day. Osijek was refused advancement for the 3rd moment in 4 years.

    Year 1977–1991

By winning the league title in 1977, NK Osijek ultimately achieved its goal of returning to the first division.

Up until the Croatian War of Independence, NK Osijek was able to maintain a competitive position in the Yugoslav League, with the exception of the 1979–80 season, when Osijek battled its way back into the top division after having failed to stay there. With the exception of 1984, when the squad finished sixth, the club was represented in the second half of the First League ladder throughout the 1980s by Davidovi, Luli, Deko, Lepinjica, Rakela, Karai, and team captain Kalini. In 1989, the squad finished eighth, with Davor uker netting 18 goals and winning the league ‘s top goalscorer award. The prize has only ever been won by uker in the existence of NK Osijek. NK Osijek placed eighth in the YFL’s most recent season.

    1992–1999

The Croatian First Football League was established following the disintegration of SFR Yugoslavia, and its inaugural season was held in 1992. It was only held from February through June because of the war. The war prevented NK Osijek from playing in Osijek, therefore they were forced to compete in the cities of akovo, Donji Miholjac, and Kutjevo. Osijek came in third in the 1992 Croatian First League, 9 pts behind title winner Hajduk Split and 6 pts behind NK Zagreb.

Robert Pehar, who concluded the season with 9 goals, was Osijek’s leading scorer.

NK Osijek soon rose to become one of the leading 4 football teams in Croatia. 1994–1995 was among Osijek’s best seasons yet. Only 6 points separated the third-placed Bijelo plavi from the Hajduk, who took first position. Pehar became the league’s leading scorer with 23 goals. Aside from “pehar,” the greats of NK Osijek at that period included Luli, Beljan, Ergovi, Rupnik, Beirevi, Biani, and Labak.

The third-place performance earned NK Osijek a spot in the 1995–96 UEFA Cup. Osijek lost 6-0 to Slovan Bratislava in the opening round. Osijek qualified for the 1998–99 UEFA Cup after placing third in the 1997–98 Croatian First League. Anderlecht faced up against Osijek. Osijek was eliminated on away goals after a storied 3-1 triumph at home in the presence of 15,000 fans, but fell 2-0 in Belgium. After defeating Cibalia 2-0, Osijek won its first title, the Croatian Cup, in 1998–1999 season. West Ham United was led by Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Trevor Sinclair, Paolo Di Canio, Paulo Wanchope, and Igor Timac as they traveled to compete in Gradski vrt a year afterwards.

    Year 2000–2015

NK Osijek defeated Brndby 2-1 (2-1, 0-0) and Rapid Wien 4-1 (2-1, 2-0) in the 2000–01 UEFA Cup. Osijek defeated Slavia Prague 2-0 at home in the third round. But however suffered a 5-1 defeat there. Osijek again placed 3rd in the league. Osijek advanced past Dinaburg in the 2001–2002 UEFA Cup on away goals, defeated Gorica in the first round, however ultimately fell to AEK Athens 3-5. Pehar and Goran Ljubojevi of Osijek were the division’s top two goal scorers in the 2003–04 HNL, each tallying 18 and 16 goals, respectively. The club thereafter experienced a protracted period of average performances and mid-table results.

The 2013–14 season almost resulted in NK Osijek being demoted. Josip Barii was able to score and hold Osijek alive against Hrvatski dragovoljac on the final day of play. Osijek switched coaches 4 times during the course of the campaign.

Osijek again ended one slot above the elimination play-off place the next year, landing one point above Istra 1961.

    Year 2015–date

Draen Besek was replaced as the first team’s head coach in September 2015 by Zoran Zeki.

Due to the club’s impending insolvency, Osijek entered private proprietorship for the first occasion in its existence in February 2016 when Croatian businessman Ivan Metrovi and Hungarian tycoon Lrinc Mészáros acquired the bulk of the club’s stock.

The two set about consolidating the team, enhancing the group, and rekindling hope among the community and fans. The fate of Osijek, both short- and long-term, was secured by the restructuring and repayment of a large portion of the borrowed funds. The club commemorated its 70th year in the Osijek theater on February 27, 2017.

Osijek ranked fourth in the 2016–17 season, which was their greatest league position in almost ten years.

Osijek qualified for the 2017–18 UEFA Europa League qualifying round after finishing in fourth position, and the club put on an incredible run to the play-off round, defeating Santa Coloma, Luzern, and PSV, the 1987–88 European Winners. After losing to Austria Wien 1-2 at home, the club’s winning streak came to an end. Notwithstanding triumphing the 2nd leg 1-0, Osijek was removed due to the away goals rule. Osijek received acclaim and congratulations from Croatian media, supporters, and press notwithstanding their elimination for their winning streak.

Osijek placed fourth once more in the 2017–18 campaign, earning a spot in the UEFA contest. Following a 1-1 tie in the initial leg in Moldova, Osijek defeated Petrocub Hîncești 2-1 at home before playing Rangers in the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League 2nd qualifying phase. Osijek was defeated at home 1-0.

Ivica Kuleevi was fired as manager of Osijek following a poor beginning to the 2020–21 campaign, in which Osijek only gained one point upon the initial 3 matches of the season. Nenad Bjelica was chosen by Osijek to serve as the new club manager on September 5, 2020.

When the private investment fund BETA acquired Lrinc Mészáros’s shares in NK OS d.o.o. on September 9, 2020, it was declared that he was no more the club’s official co-owner. Because Mészáros also controlled Puskás Akadémia FC, UEFA regulations prohibited 2 clubs possessed by the same individual from competing in European tournaments, should they both have qualified.

    Career as a Player

    Career as a Manager

After six months without a contract, Bodhert joined Expreso Rojo’s youth divisions in the middle of 1997. In 2004, he was however appointed head coach of the main team to replace Victor González Scott. He continued in that capacity up until 2006, when he accepted an assistant management position with his previous team Real Cartagena.

After lvaro Gómez left in late 2006, Bodhert was appointed interim manager. He was named manager in December 2007 following the club’s relegation from Categora Primera A.

    Copa Libertadores

Since 1960, CONMEBOL has staged the CONMEBOL Libertadores, also known as the Copa Libertadores de América, an annual international club football competition. The level of competition is the highest in South American club football.

The South American independence struggle generals known as the Libertadores are honored in the tournament’s name. The English equivalent of its previous moniker is “America’s Liberators Cup.”

    How many Phases are there?

There are eight phases to the competition, with the first stage beginning in late January. At least four clubs from each nation participate in the competition, with Argentina and Brazil sending the most teams.

    Teams that competed

Mexican teams were invited to compete in 1998 and continued to do so until 2016. At first, only the South American league champions took part. The FIFA Club World Cup and the Recopa Sudamericana are open to the Copa Libertadores champion.

Argentina’s Independiente is the cup’s most successful club to date. having so won the competition seven times. With 25 triumphs, Argentine clubs have the most victories overall.

However Brazil, with ten clubs, has the most championship-winning squads, nonetheless. 25 clubs have taken home the trophy. Seven clubs have won two years in a row, while 15 of them have won more than once.

    History

The 1930s saw the emergence of continental competition thanks to the contests for the Copa Aldao between Argentina and Uruguay’s champion teams.

The most direct forerunner to the Copa Libertadores was the South American Championship of Champions, which was played and organized by the Chilean team Colo-Colo in 1948. However, this was the result of years of preparation and coordination.

It gathered together the winners of each country’s major national leagues, and it was held in Santiago.Vasco da Gama of Brazil took first place in the competition.

    Launching the Champions Cup

The 1948 South American competition launched the “champions cup” model across the continent. Consequently, the European Cup was established in 1955. In a 2015 interview with a Brazilian TV sports program, Jacques Ferran reaffirmed this.

    Developing the structure

The competition’s foundation and structure were developed in 1958 by the Pearol board of directors. Joo Havelange announced the formation of the Copa de Campeones de America on October 8, 1958. That is the American Champions Cup, which was renamed Copa Libertadores in 1965.

It was intended to serve as the South American Cup’s counterpart. The Intercontinental Cup’s “best club team of the world” may be decided by the champion clubs of both continental confederations.

    Approval

The competition was approved on March 5, 1959, at the 24th South American Congress held in Buenos Aires by the International Affairs Committee.

It was given that name in 1965 in recognition of the South American liberation fighters. Among them were José de San Martn, Bernardo O’Higgins, Pedro I, Simón Bolvar, and José Gervasio Artigas.

    Different Methods

    How to Qualify

The majority of teams reach the Copa Libertadores through winning the Apertura and Clausura tournaments, two half-year competitions. By placing among the best teams in their championship, they also qualify.

Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela are the nations that employ this format.

For qualification to the Copa Libertadores, Peru and Ecuador have created new structures with many phases. The only South American leagues that do not use the Apertura and Clausura formats are Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.

How To Join Alianza Petrolera F.C.Academy

    How to earn a spot

However, winning the domestic cups in these nations might earn a team a spot in the Copa Libertadores. In the past, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay competed in a second competition to determine their Libertadores qualifying.

An identical technique was only employed once in Argentina, in 1992. The Copa Sudamericana champion has automatically qualified for the next Copa Libertadores since 2011.

    Laid down Rules

The Copa Libertadores traditionally did not use overtime or away goals, in contrast to the majority of other tournaments throughout the world.

Two-legged ties were determined on points from 1960 to 1987. That is, without taking into account goal differentials, teams would receive 2 points for a victory, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a defeat. A third game would be played at a neutral site if the teams were tied after two legs on points.

Only if the third game ended in a draw would goal differential be considered. If the third game did not result in an immediate winner, the winner was decided by a penalty shootout.

    Further Rules

Two-legged ties were determined on points starting in 1988. The next step was goal differential, and if the score was tied after the second leg’s conclusion on aggregate, there would be an automatic penalty shootout. However the away goals rule was implemented by CONMEBOL beginning with the 2005–06 campaign.

The finals started to deviate from the away goals rule and use extra time in 2008. From 1995 on, CONMEBOL adopted the “Three points for a win” criterion, which FIFA adopted in 1995 and adds extra significance to victories. As a result, teams now received 3 points for a victory, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a defeat.

    The Competition

47 clubs are now competing in the event, which will last six to eight months. The first, second, and knockout stages are the three stages.

Twelve clubs compete in a series of two-legged knockout matches in the first stage.

In the second level, the six survivors join 26 clubs and are thus split up into eight groups of four. Each group’s teams compete in a double round-robin format. Every team in a group plays every other team both at home and away.

The knockout stage is then chosen for the top two teams from each group. The competition then moves forward in two-legged knockout ties to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.

Why was it easier holding on to the cup?

The previous winners didn’t enter the competition until the semifinal round between 1960 and 1987. Thus making it much simpler to hold onto the cup.

The tournament winner competed in either the Toyota Cup (after 1980) or the now-defunct Intercontinental Cup from 1960 and 2004. It is a football match versus the European Cup champions that is supported by UEFA and CONMEBOL. The champion has participated in the Club World Cup since 2004.

    The Toyota Cup

The winning clubs from each of the six continental confederations compete in this international event. The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the world governing organization of the game, is in charge of organizing it.

The champions of such continents enter the event at the semifinal stage since those regions are thought to be the strongest centers of the sport in Europe and South America. The winning team is also eligible to compete in the Recopa Sudamericana against the Copa Sudamericana champions.

What Prizes do you get for winning?

    Trophy

The trophy, commonly known as the Copa Libertadores or simply la Copa, which is given to the Copa Libertadores champion, shares a name with the competition. It was created by goldsmith Alberto de Gasperi, an Italian immigrant to Peru, at CONMEBOL’s request, in Lima’s Camusso Jewelry.

With the exception of the football player at the top, the laurel’s top is made entirely of sterling silver.

The pedestal is made of hardwood plywood and holds the awards from each contestant that won. Also the season, the entire name of the winning club, the city, as well as the country where the champions are from are all displayed on the badges.

The club logo is located to the left of that information. In addition any club that wins three straight competitions is entitled to keep the trophy.

Clubs that have previously kept the trophy

    • Estudiantes: after their third consecutive win in 1970. They won a fourth title in 2009.
    • Independiente: after their third consecutive win, and fifth overall, in 1974. They have since won two more titles, in 1975 and 1984.

    Money

As of 2019, Copa Libertadores clubs who advance to the second round receive US$500,000. However in the group stage, they do receive US$1,000,000 for each home game. That sum comes from stadium advertising and television rights.

In the round of 16, the payment for each home game rises to $1,050,000 USD. Then, the prize money rises. Each quarterfinalist receives US$1,200,000, each semifinalist gets US$1,750,000, the champion gets US$12,000,000, and the runner-up gets US$6,000,000.

    Cultural influence

    ‘Sueo Libertador’

Sports journalism refers to winning or striving to win the Copa Libertadores as having the Sueo Libertador, or “Liberator Dream,”

As a result, it is believed that a team has awoke from the liberator dream when it is eliminated from the competition. Normally, the project begins following the club’s national league championship. They would then be qualified to participate in the Copa Libertadores the following year.

Investing to win the Liberty Cup

Clubs frequently invest significant resources to win the Copa Libertadores. For instance, Vasco do Gama invested $10 million to win the contest in 1998. Thus in 1998, Jnior Baiano was signed by Palmeiras, who went on to win the 1999 Copa Libertadores.

The competitors hold the tournament in high regard. Guadalajara players said in 2010 that they would prefer compete in the Copa Libertadores final than take part in a friendly match with Spain. The former did not wish to contest their national league while the latter were the current global champions.

    What happened after the win?

Similar to this, some Santos players made it known that they wanted to remain at the team and compete in the 2011 Copa Libertadores after their success in the 2010 Copa do Brasil. Despite having lucrative contracts waiting for them at UEFA Champions League clubs, they nevertheless went through with it.

    Kvarner Riviera

The publication “Three Decades of the Kvarner Riviera” contains the quotation: “These were the times of “thin cows,” the belt on his jeans was narrowed, and unfilled bottles were gathered and traded to make a few dinars for the Club.” The competition is still going strong, notwithstanding all the challenges and tribulations it has faced over the years. The earliest football competition in Croatia is hosted annually in Kvarner.

Perhaps not with the awesomeness it once had when participants who helped define their nations’ football epochs, like Dino Zoff, Gerd Muller, Paul Breitner, Zvonimir Boban, or Davor uker, paraded here, however the competition continues with the same fervor today as it did for all those who have rendered the Kvarner Riviera their home for more than 60 years and helped make it one of the ancient and best junior tourneys in Europe.

The junior game between Rijeka and OFK Belgrade, which was contested on the Belgraders’ comeback from the tourney in Bellinzona, was where the concept for an international young tourney was first conceived. Despite facing numerous issues at the time, a bunch of fans headed by Milan Blaevi, the “alpha and omega” of the Rijeka club, arranged the first Kvarner Riviera, which got underway on June 17, 1953. Munich 1860 was the first international team to enter the competition; Hajduk Split was the inaugural champion; and this year, the Kvarner Riviera, which is now the third-oldest tourney in Europe following Bellinzona and Viareggio, quickly became one of the finest in all of Europe.

The Riviera’s inaugural contest had 16 teams that competed in categories on the fields in Opatija and Rijeka (Kantrida, Krimeja, Omladinsko), using a somewhat different structure than the one used now because the first round was conducted using the cup system.

The structure will alter the next year, and the top 2 teams will participate in the championship playoffs. Such a system of rivalry persisted until the 1970s, when efforts were made to cut the volume of the rivalry. Thus, the “Kvarner Riviera” had 32 teams spiltted into 8 categories in 1972 and from 1976 to 1980. However, in 1985 and 2002, 24 teams were splitted into six categories, whereas in all other editions, it was by now in usages. the standard setup of 16 teams split into 4 groupings.

Notwithstanding the various tournament structures and the more pleasant and somewhat less pleasant phases it experienced, the Kvarner Riviera has maintained over the years some kind of transitional stage for juniors of the leaving year. Dino Zoff, the legendary Italian goalkeeper, served for Udinese on the Kvarner Riviera for two decades before serving as the Azzurra’s captain and guiding Italy to the World Cup title in Spain, or Draen Ladi, Aljoa Asanovi, Zvonimir Boban, Davor uker, Robert Prosineki, Slaven Bili, and Igor Timac, who participated in this competition 10 years before taking home the world bronze in F

Since nearly its inception, the Kvarner Riviera has been associated with the conclusion of one playing season for players transitioning from junior to senior football. However, seeing as contemporary standards have mildly reduced this restriction, the tourney is now hosted for graduating cadets rather than juniors because of the two-year age reduction.

    Memorial for Pero Radakovi

Along with Vladimir Lukari, Petar “Pero” Radakovi (February 22, 1937 – November 1, 1966) was the first player from Rijeka to represent his country at a World Cup. He participated in the best selection Nineteen instances, was voted the greatest right winger in the nation for 3 consecutive years (from 1961 – 1963), and was recognized the best athlete in the city of Rijeka in 1962.

November 1st, 1966, proved disastrous for the major player. He showed up for the first team’s morning practice, but as he was being removed from the group and working on the ball in the corner of the stadium, he unexpectedly became ill and collapsed to the floor. Right away, his friends jumped in and carried him inside the vehicle while he was unresponsive. Sadly, assistance was not available this moment. On the way to the hospital, Mugoa drove with teary eyes as masseur Bobi and coach Osojnak attempted to revive the unlucky young guy. a waste… The greatest player to ever play for Rijeka quietly went. in a myth.

In honor of the club legend Petar Radakovi, the “Petar Radakovi Memorial” International Youth Football Tournament is organized. The first one was conducted in 1969.

15,000 of the famous player’s fans assembled for the final farewell, honoring another outstanding athlete and representation of Rijeka after the war. The white “four” will always hold a special place in the Rijeka club. Because it belonged to a young man who broke down many obstacles. He was labeled the best athlete of Rijeka in 1962, a right-back in the state for three consecutive years (from 1961 to 1963). And he scored the fastest goal in club origins with a goal upon just 3 secs of play.

    Rijeka HNK

Hrvatski nogometni klub Rijeka, also known as NK Rijeka or just Rijeka, is a Croatian professional football team from the city of Rijeka.

Since the HT Prva Liga’s establishment in 1992, HNK Rijeka has participated in it and competes in it. Stadion Rujevica has served as their home field while Stadion Kantrida is being rebuilt. The predominant color of a Rijeka residence is white.

As a result of the turbulent political adjustments that swept the border city of Rijeka in the ensuing decades, the club’s renamed from Club Sportivo Olimpia in 1906 to U.S. Fiumana in 1926, S.C.F. Quarnero in 1946, NK Rijeka in 1954, and eventually HNK Rijeka in 1995. With one Croatian First League championship, 2 Yugoslav Cups, 6 Croatian Cups, 1 Croatian Super Cup, and the 1977–1978 Balkans Cup, Rijeka is the third-most famous Croatian football team.

    Background

    1991-date

Rijeka entered the Croatian First Football League in its debut season in 1992 after Yugoslavia’s dissolution. Taking the lead of the majority of clubs in the new Republic of Croatia in the Croatian War for Independence, the club makes one final rebrand in 1995 to HNK Rijeka and adds the prefix “Croatian” to its identity. As one of the 3 leading clubs in the nation, Rijeka is still one of the 4 HNL founding member clubs to have not been demoted.

Since Croatia’s independence, the team has finished second 7 times and won its first league championship in 2017, breaking Dinamo Zagreb’s streak of 11 consecutive championships. Due to a mistake by the referee during the season’s final game in 1998–199, Rijeka was unable to win their first championship. Rijeka was one point ahead of Croatia Zagreb with one game remaining. And needed to defeat Osijek at home to win the championship. In the 89th min, Admir Hasani of Rijeka scored off a Barnabas Sztipánovics cross to draw the game at 1-1.

Nevertheless, the winning goal by Rijeka was eventually overturned for alleged offside by referee Upraha after assistant referee Kreak raised his flag.

After an examination, 3D analysis showed that Hasani was not, in fact, in an offside position. nd that Rijeka had been unfairly deprived winning their first title. According to a Nacional investigation, Franjo Tuman, the president of the Republic of Croatia and a fervent fan of Croatia Zagreb, instructed the nation’s intelligence agencies to snoop on football referees, authorities, and journalists earlier in 1999 in order to ensure the Zagreb club won the league championship.

6 Croatian Cups have also been won by Rijeka. such as consecutive victories in 2005 and 2006 and most lately in 2019 and 2020. Additionally, it claimed the cup in 2014 and 2017, which enabled them to complete a remarkable double that year.

HNK Rijeka competing in European events

Rijeka took part in 21 UEFA games, including nine straight matches starting in 2013–14. The biggest setback came in the quarterfinal of the 1979–80 European Cup Winners’ Cup, where they were defeated by Juventus on total by a score of 2-0. The 1984–85 UEFA Cup home triumph against defending champion Real Madrid (3–1) was the most spectacular outcome in Europe.

Rijeka infamously had 3 players dismissed during the second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which they lost 3-0. In the 67th min, Madrid struck their opening goal from a questionable penalty with Rijeka by now down to 10 men. 2 more Rijeka footballers were dismissed during the course of the subsequent 10 mins, most significantly Damir Desnica. Desnica was given the first yellow card for failing to stop the game when Schoeters blew his whistle, but he was given the 2nd one for reportedly insulting Schoeters. Desnica, though, had been silent and deaf since childhood, which the referee was unaware of. Madrid made 2 more goals, advanced to the following round. And ultimately won the championship with Rijeka down to 8 players.

In 2013, Rijeka advanced for the group phase of the UEFA Europa League upon defeating VfB Stuttgart 4-3 on the road.

Additionally, Rijeka took part in the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League group phase, where they tied with Sevilla and won over Feyenoord and Standard Liège.

2017 saw Rijeka advance to the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League play-off, where they were defeated by Olympiacos, the Greek champions, 3–1 on totality. Rijeka also earned instant entry into the 2017–18 UEFA Europa League group phase. They defeated AC Milan 2-0 at home during the group phase, however they were once again unable to advance to the knockout rounds.

    Individual proprietorship

Gabriele Volpi, an Italian billionaire who founded Orlean Invest and is also the proprietor of the water polo team Pro Recco and the football team Spezia, provided the team with much-needed funding in February 2012. By the end of the privatization exercise in September 2013, Volpi had acquired 70% of the club through the Dutch organization Stichting Social Sport Foundation, with the City of Rijeka holding the leftover 30%. The main ownership of the club was purchased from Stichting Social Sport Foundation by chairman Damir Mikovi through the London-based Teanna Limited, it was revealed on December 29, 2017.

    Records exchanges

Andrej Kramari, the standout striker for Rijeka, was traded to Leicester City in January 2015 for a club-record transfer fee of £9.7 million.

    HNK Stadium in Rijeka

The stadium Stadion Rujevica, also known as Stadion HNK Rijeka or simply HNK Rijeka Stadium, is located in the Croatian city of Rijeka.

Because of its site, the stadium is frequently dubbed to as Rujevica. Since August 2015, HNK Rijeka has called the stadium its makeshift home field while the new Stadion Kantrida is being built. The club’s youth academy uses the stadium as part of their development facility, which also has 4 other grounds. The stadium will serve as the team’s practice space after the new Kantrida is constructed.

    Structures

The proprietors of HNK Rijeka funded the training center’s development, which got under way on September 15, 2014. The stadium received a license from the Croatian football officials on July 28, 2015. It was formally inaugurated on August 2, 2015, when HNK Rijeka defeated NK Lokomotiva 3-1. The opening goal was made by Marin Leovac.

    Extension

Damir Mikovi, the chairman of HNK Rijeka, made suggestions in January and November 2016 that the northern stand might be constructed to meet the UEFA stadium category necessity that a stadium have a least seating capacity of 8,000 for the group phase of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. On May 11, 2017, work on the northern stand’s erection began. The stadium’s occupancy increased from 6,039 – 8,279 when the building was finished on July 21, 2017.

    Patriotas Boyacá

Patriotas Boyacá, often known as Patriotas, is a Categora Primera A-level professional football team from Tunja, Colombia. The La Independencia stadium is where they have their home matches.

    Background

Miguel Angel Bermdez, the then-governor of Boyacá, the then-chairman of Coldeportes, and the proprietors of the hardware company G&J formed Patriotas in 2003. The team advanced to the semifinals of the Primera B in their inaugural season before being defeated by Bogotá Chicó.

Again making it to the Semifinals in 2004, the team faced off against Deportivo Antioquia, Centauros Villavicencio, and Expreso Rojo however was unable to progress. Although Patriotas finished #2 in the overall list in 2005, Bajo Cauca defeated them in the Semifinals. A few adjustments were made to the competition in 2009. Patriotas won Group B, although they were relegated twice in the Semifinals, finishing third overall.

In 2011, upon defeating América de Cali on penalties, the team was elevated to Categora Primera A. Upon finishing eighth in the First Stage in 2016, the squad earned a spot in the Knockout round for the first season. The team also succeeded in qualifying for the 2017 Copa Sudamericana, which was their first appearance in an international tournament, by making it to the 2nd round.

    Stadium Patriotas Boyacá

The Colombian city of Tunja is home to the multipurpose stadium known as Estadio La Independencia (The Independence Stadium). Presently, it is largely utilized for football games. The stadium is 2,800 meters above sea surface and has a seating of 25,000 spectators. At this stadium, the Boyacá Chicó and Patriotas have their home matches.

Boyaca Chico’s victory in the 2008 Categora Primera Apertura in June 2008 and subsequent direct promotion for the 2009 Copa Libertadores necessitated stadium expansion in attempt to meet the least requirement of 20000 seats set by CONMEBOL for hosting an international game. The enlargement project began in December but is progressing more slowly than anticipated. Nevertheless, the improvements were finished in time for the inaugural Chicó game at La Independencia, versus Gremio of Brazil.

Adjustments have been undertaken from the start of 2017 as a result of Patriotas F.C.’s involvement in the 2017 Copa Sudamericana. The stadium has served as the primary location for musical and cultural activities, like concerts by foreign singers like Marc Anthony,

Alfonso Fernández is one of the others.

    Manager of Patriotas Boyacá

José Eugenio “Cheche” Hernández Sarmiento, a manager and erstwhile midfielder in Colombian football, was born on May 18, 1956. He currently oversees Patriotas.

Hernández participated in the men’s competition at the 1980 Summer Olympics in addition to playing for local teams Millonarios and Deportivo Cali.

He later transitioned to management and previously served as manager of clubs in Costa Rica, Peru, and Ecuador in addition to the national teams of Panama and the Dominican Republic.

    Categoría Primera A

Known as Liga BetPlay Dimayor (or Liga guila between 2015 and 2019 due to financial backing by online betting company BetPlay), the Categora Primera A is a Colombian professional league for association football clubs.

The name Categora Primera A is pronounced [kateoi.a pimea a]. It is the most prestigious football competition in the nation and comes first in the hierarchy of football leagues in Colombia. The regular season of the league features competition between twenty clubs. The advancement and demotion scheme for the Categora Primera A and Categora Primera B leagues is handled by División Mayor del Ftbol Profesional Colombiano, or DIMAYOR.

A total of 14 clubs have won the title of Colombian football winners since the sport’s beginning in 1948. With 17 championships, Atlético Nacional is the most accomplished team.

    Background

There was no official football league in Colombia prior to 1948. Though it took some time for the sport to gain publicity, the first clubs were established in Barranquilla and Bogotá: Barranquilla FC, Polo Club, Escuela Militar, and Bartolinos.

The Copa Centenario Batalla de Boyacá came after the 1918 Campeonato Nacional as the inaugural competition between Colombian clubs. The earliest club still in existence as a professional club is Independiente Medelln, which was established on April 15, 1913. The Colombian Football Federation and DIMAYOR organized the first competition in 1948.

10 teams entered this initial contest and paid the 1,000 peso entry fee. In addition to one squad from Barranquilla, 2 teams each were enlisted from Bogotá, Cali, Manizales, and Pereira. There were 252 players signed up for the competition that year, 182 of whom were from Colombia, 13 from Argentina, 8 from Peru, Five from Uruguay, Two from Chile, Two from Ecuador, 1 from the Dominican Republic, and 1 from Spain.

A short time after the league’s founding, disagreements sprang out between DIMAYOR, the organization behind the new national league, and Adeftbol, the organization in charge of amateur football in Colombia.

DIMAYOR withdrew from Adeftbol and declared it will function outside of FIFA guidelines. FIFA punished Colombian football in retaliation, barring the national team and all of its clubs from participating in international competitions. El Dorado refers to the time frame from 1949 and 1954.

This was Colombian football’s heyday rather than a sad period. Colombian clubs started acquiring star players from all over South America and Europe once they were no longer compelled to settle transfer charges to clubs from other countries.

Millonarios, which had footballers like Alfredo di Stéfano and won back-to-back championships, was the most relentless international player signer. As club contests gained in popularity and participation soared, the Copa Colombia was established in 1950. Over the following 58 years, that elimination contest was held irregularly; it wasn’t until 2008 that it was made a yearly event.

When Colombia re-joined the international community in 1954, the celebrities moved back to their home countries, but the period was never overlooked.

The league replaced its annual tourney with 2 smaller ones in 1968, following the trend that was developing in South America. The Apertura, which ran from February to June, and the Finalización, which ran from July to December, would then serve as the 2 annual tourneys in which Colombian clubs would participate. In 2002, these 2 tourneys would become separate championships.

The 2nd and 3rd tiers were added to the league in 1991, resulting in yet another reorganization. Due to financial constraints, the 3rd division’s 2002 season was canceled. Beginning in 2003, it ceased to offer professional division promotions until it was eventually discontinued in 2010.

    Structure

For the 2019 season, Colombian football will continue in its present format. Twenty teams compete in the top division, and each team participates in the annual Apertura and Finalización competitions.

The three-stage structure used for both events is the same.In the opening round, each team faces the other teams once for a record of 19 games in a single round robin format. The leading 8 teams then go to the playoff session, which consists of 2 groups with round-robin games that each club plays 6 occasions. The final, which is contested in a home and away format, is attended by the 2 group winners.

The point totals teams earned over the prior 3 seasons are averaged to decide which teams will be relegated to Categora Primera B. The last 2 teams are eliminated each season, while the best 2 from Primera B take their position.

    Prize

From 1948, the same award has been awarded to recognize the winner each year. It is created with German silver, weighs about 5 kilos, and stands about 90 centimeters tall. Its topmost portion bears a representation of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, a symbol of sporting triumph throughout history.

The identities of all the winning clubs are etched on the actual prize, which is housed at DIMAYOR’s corporate office; the winners are given an exact duplicate. The winners additionally receive a trophy from the league’s sponsor in conjunction to the game’s original medal.

    Copa Libertadores

The CONMEBOL Libertadores de América (Portuguese: Copa Libertadores da América) is a biennial international club football contest facilitated by CONMEBOL as of 1960. It is the top level of club tournament in South America. The competition is labeled after the Libertadores (Spanish and Portuguese for “liberators”), the figureheads of the South American independence wars, so “America’s Liberators Cup” is a direct transcription of its previous label in English.

Throughout its history, the competition has taken on various forms. At first, only the champions of the South American leagues were allowed to compete.

The runners-up of the to compete in 1966, and from 2000 to 2016, they competed on a regular basis. The tournament was increased from 20 to 32 teams in 2000. In today’s event, at minimum 4 clubs from each country compete, with Argentina and Brazil having the most participants. There has always been a group stage, however the number of teams in each group has changed.

The competition comprises of 8 rounds in its current configuration, with the first stage taking place in late January. The 4 teams that made it through the first 3 phases are joined by 28 other teams in the group stage, which is divided into 8 groups of 4 teams each. The 8 group champions and 8 runners-up go to the knockout stages, which conclude in Nov with the final. The champion of the Copa Libertadores qualifies for the FIFA Club World Cup and the Sudamericana Recopa.

Argentina’s Independiente is the most popular team in the game’s evolution, besting it 7 times. With 25 triumphs, Argentine clubs had the most victories, whereas Brazil has the most championship teams, with ten. Twenty-five clubs have won the cup, Fifteen of them several times, and 7 clubs have claimed it two consecutive years.

The leagues from South America agreed to enter. Mexican teams were asked to compete in 1998.

    Background

In the 1930s, the Copa Aldao matches between Argentina’s and Uruguay’s winners sparked the notion of continental tournament.

Following years of preparation and planning, the South American Championship of Champions (Spanish: Campeonato Sudamericano de Campeones) was contested and hosted by the Chilean team Colo-Colo in 1948, the most direct antecedent of the Copa Libertadores.

It was hosted in Santiago and included the winners of each country’s major national leagues.

Vasco da Gama of Brazil won the event. As affirmed by Jacques Ferran (one of the “pioneers” of the European Cup) in a 2015 appearance with a Brazilian TV sports show, the 1948 South American tournament sparked the “champions cup” format on a continent-wide scale, leading to the establishment of the European Cup in 1955.

The tournament’s concept and structure were devised by Pearol’s board executives in 1958. On Oct. 8, 1958, at a UEFA meeting to which he was invited, Joo Havelange stated the formation of the Copa de Campeones de America (American Champions Cup, rebranded Copa Libertadores in 1965) as a South American version of the European Cup, such that the title holder clubs of both continental confederations could determine “the best club team of the world” in the Intercontinental Cup.

The tournament was approved by the International Affairs Committee at the 24th South American Congress in Buenos Aires on March 5, 1959. Simón Bolvar, José de San Martn, Pedro I, Bernardo O’Higgins, and José Gervasio Artigas were among the legends of South American liberty who were honored in 1965.

    Eligibility

The majority of teams make the cut for the Copa Libertadores by acquiring half-year contests known as the Apertura and Clausura, or by wrapping up among the top teams in their respective championships.

Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela are among the countries that use this template.

Peru and Ecuador have created new eligibility templates for the Copa Libertadores that include multiple stages.
The only South American leagues that use a European league structure rather than the Apertura and Clausura style are Argentina, Brazil, and Chile.

Even so, acquiring the local cups in these countries can earn one berth in the Copa Libertadores.

Previously, Peru, Uruguay, and Mexico used a 2nd contest (the “Liguilla Pre-Libertadores” between 1992 and 1997, the “Liguilla Pre-Libertadores de América” from 1974 to 2009, and the InterLiga from 2004 to 2010) to determine qualification for the Libertadores.

Argentina only used a similar mechanism once, in 1992. Since 2011, the Copa Sudamericana champion has become invariably eligible for the very next Copa Libertadores.

The following groups competed in the various phases of the contest for the 2019 edition.

    Principles

Differing from most other international competitions, the Copa Libertadores has never used additional time or away goals.

Two-legged ties were decided on points only from 1960 to 1987 (teams were granted 2 points for a victory, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a defeat), with no consideration for goal differentials. If both teams are tied after 2 legs, a 3rd game will be held at a neutral location. Only if the 3rd game is a draw will goal difference be considered. A penalty shootout was utilized to decide a victor if the third game did not yield an outright champion.

Two-legged draws were determined on points, then goal difference, with an instant penalty shootout if the match was tied on overall following full-time in the return leg, starting in 1988.

The away goals rule was introduced by CONMEBOL in the 2005 season. The finals was now an exemption to the away goals rule in 2008, and additional time was used. From 1995 onwards, CONMEBOL embraced the “3 points for a victory” benchmark, a FIFA-adopted system that assigns greater value to wins. Teams now receive 3 points for a victory, one point for a tie, and zero points for a loss.

    Championship

Currently, 47 clubs are participating over a 6-8 month span in the present tournament. There are 3 phases: the preliminary round, the second round, and the knockout round.

Twelve clubs compete in a series of two-legged knockout matches in the first round. In the 2nd level, the 6 survivors meet 26 clubs and are split up into 8 categories of 4. The teams in each category compete in a double round-robin format, with each team facing every other team in their group both at home and away. The knockout phase, which comprises of two-legged knockout fixtures, is then determined for the leading 2 teams from each category.

The game then moves forward in two-legged knockout fixtures to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.

The former champions did not participate in the contest until the semifinal round between 1960 and 1987, rendering it considerably simpler to keep the trophy.

Between 1960 – 2004, the tournament’s winner competed in the now-defunct Intercontinental Cup or (after 1980) Toyota Cup, a football matchup between the champions of the European Cup and UEFA and CONMEBOL (since renamed the UEFA Champions League). The champion club from each of the 6 continental confederations competes in the Club World Cup, an international event, every year since 2004. The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the world governing organization of the game, is in charge of organizing it. The champions of such continents enter the event at the semifinal stage since those regions are thought to be the best centers of the sport in Europe and South America. The victorious team as well earns a spot in the Recopa Sudamericana, a two-game championship match against the Copa Sudamericana champions.

    Sport Club Corinthians Paulista

Brazilian sports club Sport Club Corinthians Paulista is based in the Tatuapé district of Sao Paulo. People mostly know Corinthians for their professional association team that competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A and the CampeoNato Brasileiro Série A. However, they participate in several different sports.

In 1910, Corinthians was founded by five railway workers who got their inspiration from the London-based club Corinthian Football Club. The club went on to win the national title seven times, three Copa do Brasil, one Supercopa do Brasil and a record 30 Sao Paulo State championships. They are one of the most successful clubs in Brazil. Internationally, Corinthians won the inaugural FIFA Club World Championship in 2000. In 2012, they beat Copa Libertadores de America Champions for the first time that year to win the title again.

Corinthian’s home strip is a white shirt on black shorts and white socks. In 1939, modernist painter Francisco Rebolo revealed the club’s  traditional crest. It features São Paulo state flag in a shield, two oars, and an anchor representing the club’s early success in nautical sports. The Arena Corinthians stadium has hosted Corinthians home games since 2014. On 12 June 2014, the arena hosted the opener of the 2014 FIFA World Cup  and was also a total of six games during the tournament.

The club which worth $576.9 million was listed among the most valuable football clubs in the Americas by Forbes in 2017. Corinthians boast of over 30 million fans in Brazil—the second largest fanbase in the country—and are widely supported in the world.

    Background

Football was an elitist sport back in 1910, and only the upper classes formed and owned the top clubs. They included Club Athletico Paulistano, Sao Paulo Athletic Club & Associação Atlética das Palmeiras. Smaller clubs were formed by the lower-class society who isolated themselves from larger clubs. They played “floodplain” football.

A group of five workers of the São Paulo Railway who were residents of Bom Retiro followed this trend. They are Joaquim Ambrose and Anthony Pereira (wall painters), Rafael Perrone (shoemaker), Anselmo Correia (driver) and Carlos Silva (general laborer).

The whole idea was born on 31 August 1910, when these workers were watching a match featuring a London-based club touring Brazil, Corinthians FC. This match inspired the men to deliberate on  partnerships, business ideas, and general dreams of grandeur as they walked back home. An idea of a club lingered in the mind of each of them as it sparked a lively argument amongst them. Finally, they agreed to hold a meeting the following day to bring their dreams into realization.

    The Call For A Meeting

The group arranged a meeting in a public area after sundown due to a possibility of heavy rainfall on 1 September 1910. Alongside their neighbors from Born Retiro, the group converged at 8:30pm, on Rua José Paulino (“Rua dos Imigrantes” (Immigrants Street). Miguel Battaglia was elected as the first Club President by the Executives which were formed alongside the club that night.

On 10 September 1910, newly formed Corinthians made their debut against a respected amateur club in São Paulo, União da Lapa. Although  they lost the match, it marked the commencement of a successful era as an amateur club for Corinthians.

On 14 September, the club recorded their first win (2-0), with Luis Fabi scoring the club’s first goal against another amateur team in the city, Estrela Polar.

The Popular Quote “This One Will Last”

Corinthians later won two qualifier matches to join Liga Paulista after a series of good performances and an ever increasing fan base. In 1913, they debuted in the São Paulo State Championship. Corinthians won the Liga Paulista merely a year after joining the league and went on to win again two years later. Several inconsistent teams emerged in São Paulo in this period, so, Corinthians raised a banner by their field side during their reign as Champions affirming “This One Will Last”.

The start of Corinthians hegemony in the São Paulo State Championship was marked by the Centennial of Brazilian Independence in 1922. People saw the two state champions as the biggest Brazilian clubs as football was almost exclusively played at Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo at the time. Corinthians registered itself among the greatest teams in Brazil after defeating the reigning champions of the Rio de Janeiro State Championship, America.

Consecutively, they won three State Championship after recording their first in 1928. They retained the championship until 1930.

After six years , Corinthians won the championship for three consecutive seasons again. They won it in 1937 through to 1939. The club experienced some difficult times in the 1940s but recovered and went on to win a championship in 1941. It took them 10 years before they could win the title again.

    The History Making Of Corinthians

Corinthians made history in the São Paulo Championship in the early 1950s. The team featuring the likes of Carbone, Cláudio, Luisinho, Baltasar and Mário scored 103 goals in thirty matches of the São Paulo Championship in 1951.

They registered an average of 3.43 per game, with the highest goalscorer being Carbone who netted 30 goals. In 1952 and 1954, the club also won the São Paulo Championships. In this same decade, Corinthians were champions of the Rio-São Paulo Championship three times in 1950, 1953 and 1954. This was a time the tournament held a significant value due to the biggest clubs from the two most recognized footballing states in Brazil competing for it.

Corinthians won the Small Cup of the World in a championship in Venezuela in 1953. Many people saw the championship as a precursor of the Worldwide Championship of Clubs. In the build-up to being Champions, Corinthians went to the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, in place of Vasco da Gama. Consecutively, they recorded six victories against  Roma (1–0 and 3–1), Barcelona  (3–2 and 1–0) and Selection of Caracas (2–1 and 2–0). In 1954, they also went on to win the Cup of the Centenary of São Paulo.

    More Information

Corinthians went titleless after their successes of the São Paulo Championship and the Rio-São Paulo in 1954. They finally broke the spell of 23 years without a major title with the São Paulo state championship in 1977.

Concentração was a practice were politics is discussed by football players usually in hotels where they are locked up for days prior to a matchday. It was a common Brazilian practice and Corinthians were the first Brazilian club in which players decided about Concentração. This happened under the leadership of Sócrates, Wladimir and Casagrande.(In the early 1980s, military dictatorship, after two decades, ended in Brazil). Prior to the election of government of São Paulo State in 1982, the team influenced a majority of fans to vote by wearing a kit with the words: DIA 15 VOTE (Vote on 15th).

Corinthians defeated rivals São Paulo in their own homeground, Estádio do Morumbi to win their first Campeonato Brasileiro Série A In 1990. They went on to win the Supercopa do Brasil after beating Flamingo the following year.

    The Continuous Dominance Of Corinthians

Also, they won Grêmio in the Copa do Brasil in the final at the Estádio Olímpico Monumental in Porto Alegre in 1995. Corinthians were state champions in 1995, 1997 and 1999 and won the national championship again in 1998 and in 1999. The club also beat Vasco da Gama on penalties in the final of the FIFA Club World  In 2000.

Corinthians also beat Brasiliense in the final to win the Copa do Brasil in 2002. The club were winners of the Ramon de Carranza Trophy in 1996, the Rio-São Paulo Tournament in 2002, the São Paulo Youth Cup in 1995, 1999, 2004, and 2005, and the Dallas Cup in 1999 and 2000.

Corinthians experienced their most difficult season in early 2004 due to lack of money and bad governance. They displayed a terrible performance in the 2003 Brazilian Championship and 2004 São Paulo State Championship. Fortunately, the team improved under the guidance of new manager, Tite , with support from several young players.

Corinthians secured qualification into the Copa Sudamericana (a minor continental championship) after finishing 5th at the end of the championship.

    The Acquisition Of Proficient Players

This along with other factors moved Corinthian’s president, Alberto Dualib, to push the club executives to sign a controversial contract with Media Sports Investment, an international fund of investors. In exchange for large financial Investments in return, the company got to own a large share of the club for 10 years. As a result, they club acquired quality players like Carlos Tevez, Roger, Javier Mascherano and Carlos Alberto.

Corinthians experienced a slow start in the 2005 state championship despite the MSI investments. However, they finished second after picking up pace during the season.  Their 2005 Brazilian championship started badly too but they improved after the dismissal of Daniel Passarella (due to an unexpected 5– 1 loss to Corinthians’ rivals, São Paulo). Eventually, after a controversial annulment of eleven matches due to a betting scandal, Corinthians were Brazilian champions for the fourth time.

Corinthians‘ managers and the MSI president, Kia Joorabchian had several disagreements. The partnership ended after the club’s  Copa Libertadores elimination caused them a crisis which made their 2006 campaign a disaster.

Unfortunately, Corinthians were relegated to the second tier aftera 1-1 draw away to Grêmio on 2 December 2007. In 2009, Corinthians won the Serie B tournament and automatically gained promotion back to the top division. They also brought in three-time FIFA Player of the Year, Ronaldo as manager. He led the club to their 26th Campeonato Paulista and their third Copa do Brasil.

    Foot Note

Subsequently, Corinthians secured their place in the Copa Libertadores after finishing 3rd in the Copa Brasileiro of 2010. Ronaldo retired from football under the club after a lesser Deportes Tolima eliminated the club from the South American tournament. A 2006 national squad veteran, Adriano replaced him.  He led Corinthians to won their fifth national title in 2011.

Corinthians faced 6-time champions Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores final which they reached undefeated on 4 July. It was a two-match final which they drew in the first leg. They won the final Ithe second leg after they won 2-0 at the Estádio do Pacaembu in São Paulo. They were the ninth Brazilian team to win the Copa Libertadores. On 16 December 2012, Corinthians beat EPL side, Chelsea 1-0 to win the 2012 FIFA World Cup.

    About The Club’s Facilities

    Stadiums; Early Grounds

A vacant lot owned by a firewood seller in the neighborhood of Bom Retiro (where the club was founded in 1910)is was the Corinthians first playing ground. Hence, the nickname Campo do Lenheiro (“Lumberjack’s field”). The players had to clean and flatten the lawn themselves as it was the time of the floodplain.

Ponte Grande, located on the banks of Tiete River was the first field officially inaugurated by Corinthians in January 1918. Antonio de Alcantara Machado was one of the first to approach the club workers, he influenced the lease of the land from the municipality.  The ground was developed by players and fans who formed a United community . The club later completed their first stadium and moved out of the ground in 1927. The ground was donated to São Bento.

    About Parque São Jorge

Parque São Jorge (“Saint George’s Park“), located within the Tatuapé district of the city was bought from then rivals Esporte Clube Sírio in 1926. President Ernesto Cassano got financial backing from members to work on the newly acquired ground.

On 22 July, the Parque São Jorge, still without floodlights, was inaugurated after certain reconstructions. A friendly match against América-RJ which ended in a 2-2 tie was played to it’s honor. Amongst the land acquired was a Syrian farm – hence the nickname Fazendinha (“Little Farm”), still used today. Corinthians continued to develop and eventually built its headquarters from this place.

Due to the rapid increase of fans, Corinthians commissioned the city-owned Pacaembu in the 1940s. Then, they used Estádio Alfredo Schürig (official name of “Fazendinha”) for Academy level competitions and friendly games from the 1950s. On August 3, 2002, a friendly against Brasiliense marked the last game played by the club in the ground. The ground also serves as the homeground of the professional women’s  football team since 1997.

    Overview Of Pacaembu

The Paulo Machado de Carvalho Stadium commonly called the Pacaembu Stadium, belonging to the São Paulo municipality partnered with Corinthians. The 70,000 capacity stadium was the largest stadium in Latin America. In 1940, it was inaugurated in a double-fixture where rivals Palestra Italia and Coritiba met and three-time champions Corinthians faced Atlético Mineiro. Corinthians won 4-2. The Pacaembu has a capacity of about 40,000 spectators presently.

    Arena Corinthians

In 2009 There were talks that the government of São Paulo could make a deal for a 30-year allotment of Pacaembu in 2009. Although, our club directors hoped for this and designed projects to the matter, it never happened.

Corinthians faced a possibility of building their own stadium after the Estádio do Morumbi failed to comply to FIFA’s standard. This was after it was named to host the city in the World Cup. The new Corinthians stadium which was to be built in the district of Itaquera, in the eastern region of São Paulo was announced to host the opening ceremony of the World Cup of Brazil. This announcement was made by the president of CBF, Ricardo Teixeira, along with Governor of São Paulo State, Alberto Goldman and Mayor of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab in August 2010.

Corinthians announced their stadium’s new name while celebrating their 110th anniversary live from the stadium on 1 September 2020. As part of a 20-year sponsorship with Brazil’s biggest pharmaceutical company, Hypera Pharma, they renamed the stadium to Neo Química Arena. Neo Química is Hypera’s generic drugs division, who were Corinthians’ main sponsor during the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. Meanwhile, they expected the full contract to worth from R$300–320 million.

    Information About The Training Structures

     CT Joaquim Grava

In September 2010, during Corinthians 100th anniversary celebration, they inaugurated their state-of-the-art training facilities. Joaquim Grava influenced the naming of the training ground. He was a long-time associate and consulting medical doctor, who also supervised the construction of the medical department.

The facility contains a 32 bedroom hotel for the players, a bio-mechanics complex, a center for player rehabilitation and therapy, a basketball and volleyball courts which are FIBA and FIVB standard and other amenities. However, the academy is still constructing structures for the academy teams.

We shall discuss the club’s way or style in relation to the topic “How To Join Corinthians FC Youth Academy“.

    The Club’s Way Of Existence

    About The Fans

The Corinthians fanbase commonly called Fiel (“The Faithful”) boasts of one of the biggest average attendances in Brazil. They feature memorable moments like the “Corinthian Invasion” (pt / Invasão Corinthiana) in 1976,  70,000 Fans travelling from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro to watch the match against Fluminense  at Maracana Stadium, in that year’s national championship semifinals. Corinthians made a tribute documentary ( named “Faithful”.) dedicated to their fans who were popular for their passion and loyalty to the team. The documentary highlighted the fans’ support during the club’s relegation to second division in 2007, the most difficult moment in the club’s history. The following year, they made similar initiatives stating other times in the club’s history that their fans stood by them.

The fans also have organizations that are crucial to the club culture (“torcidas organizadas”). The Gaviões da Fiel (“The Hawks of the Faithful”) are the biggest and most popular. Fans discovered it in 1969 when attempting to recover political and administrative control of the club. Presently, with about 100,000 associates, they are the largest of such organizations in Brazil.

Other important fan groups that actively supported social and cultural activities representing the club are Camisa 12 (“The 12th Shirt”, founded in 1971), Estopim da Fiel (“Faithful’s Fuse”, 1979), Coringão Chopp (“Corinthians Draught Beer”, 1989), Pavilhão Nove (“Pavillion Nine”, 1990), and Fiel Macabra (“Macabre Faithful”, 1993).

Also, most of the groups above created branches for fans living outside of São Paulo city, out-state and even internationally. Most take part in the Brazilian carnival festivities, most famously Gaviões da Fiel, one of the most important Carnival of São Paulo Parade samba schools, having won the contest for 4 times, the most among football team organizations. Palmeiras are the main rivals of Corinthians, they play a crosstown fixture called derby Paulista. Sources including FIFA and CNN considers the derby consistently as one of the greatest rivalries worldwide. A group of Italians ex-members of Corinthians, discovered Palmeiras. A lingering hatred came forth in 1914. This happened when that treasonous act got to these former supporters. Violence is common between the clubs and the derby atmosphere is fierce both inside and outside the stadium.

    Clássico Majestoso

Corinthianns and São Paulo play in a crosstown fixture called Clássico Majestoso. The Derby dates back to 1935, at the final re-founding São Paulo after being thrice defunct. Interestingly, Corinthians supporters are the largest in the state (25 Million), while São Paulo’s second place (16 Million). The 1990 Campeonato Brasileiro finals which led to Corinthians first national title is their most memorable Clássico.

    Clássico Alvinegro

Corinthians and local side Santos play a regional fixture called Clássico Alvinegro. They derived the name ‘Alvinegro’ from the colors the both teams wore, black and white (Alvi, from Latin albus, white, and negro, black). The Classico peaked for Corinthians fans when the clubs met  in the Semi-finals of Libertadores in 2012. Corinthians won 2-1 on aggregate.

It led to Ponte Preta’s greatest Paulista Finish (runner-up). The two most supported Brazilian teams Corinthians and Flamingo play an inter-state fixture, das Multidões (Classic of The Masses). Deportes Tolima

Club Deportes Tolima S.A., also referred to as Deportes Tolima or just Tolima, is a professional football team from Colombia that is situated in Ibagué, Tolima Department, and competes in the Category Primera A at the moment.

Since its founding in 1954, the club has three times taken home the top prize in Colombia: in the 2003-II, 2018-I, and 2021-I competitions. Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro is where they hold their home matches.

    The Deportes Tolima Foundation’s Background

On December 18, 1954, Manuel Rubio Chávez formed Club Deportes Tolima by giving Juan Barbieri, an Argentinean residing in Ibagué, Colombia, $5,000 Colombian pesos so that Barbieri could recruit footballers from his home nation. Jorge Gandolfo, José Jamardo, and Enrique Laino were among the Argentine and Colombian athletes with whom Barbieri returned to Colombia. In 1955, this team made its debut in the Colombian football league while sporting the Racing Club of Argentina’s outfit. Tolima competed against nine other teams in their first league season and placed seventh overall. The team placed second in the league in 1957.

    The 1980s and 1990s

In the 1980s, Senator Gabriel Camargo Salamanca had the chance to play for the squad. He agreed and became the team’s largest stockholder.

He acquired key professionals including Janio Cabezas, Francisco Maturana, Oscar Héctor Quintabani, Osvaldo Redondo, Arnoldo Iguarán, and Oscar López.

In 1981 and 1982, Deportes Tolima placed second with this group.

With the 1982 Copa Libertadores, Tolima made its international match debut. The club advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Atlético Nacional, Estudiantes de Mérida, and Deportivo Táchira in their cohort. In the succeeding year, in 1983, the team also participated in the Copa Libertadores. Despite finishing second in their category, the team was removed in round one.

Due to its subpar performance, the club was demoted to Primera B, or 2nd level, in 1993. Tolima spent one season in the 2nd tier, but because of their championship, they were able to back to the top flight for the 1995 campaign right away.

    The first Victory (2003)

For the 2nd half of 2003, Deportes Tolima featured a very fascinating bunch of players. Ricardo Ciciliano, Henry Zambrano, Yulian Anchico, Oscar Briceo, Jhon Charra, Jorge Artigas, Nelson Rivas, and Diego Gómez were a few of the athletes who made up this group. In the league standings, Deportes Tolima placed #6 and earned a spot in the postseason. In a category with Atlético Nacional, Atlético Junior, and Independiente Medelln, the team was put. Deportes Tolima defeated Atlético Nacional 2-0 in Ibagué while Atlético Junior fell to Independiente Medelln 1-0 in Medelln. Despite everyone’s predictions that Atlético Junior would win the mini league and advance to the championship.

With these outcomes, Deportes Tolima, who was tied on points with Junior, advanced to the final versus Deportivo Cali. Rogerio Pereira, who netted both goals for Tolima, put on an outstanding display in the opening match, in which they won 2-0 in Ibagué. Tolima defeated 3-1 in Cali during the 2nd leg, forcing overtime and a 3-3 final score that necessitated penalties. Deportes Tolima only failed a penalty in the shootout. While goalkeeper Diego Gómez stopped 2 others, helping the team win the league championship for the inaugural time ever.

    Runners-up in 2006

Tolima had a fantastic year in 2006. The team netted the highest goals in the year (almost 80), finished second altogether (points added together over the Apertura and Clausura competitions), and finished #2 in the league for 2006-II. Deportes Tolima did not add any fresh entrants before the 2006 season. So it did not appear to be a particularly good club. Jorge Luis Bernal, a longtime backup team coach, served as the head coach. Deportes Tolima won against Envigado 7-3, Atlético Nacional 5-1, and Millonarios 3-0 thanks to strong offensive play both at home and away. They competed in a category with Deportivo Pereira, Deportivo Cali, and Once Caldas in the semi-final round of the 2006-I competition, however, they were unable to advance further.

Even more successful than the first campaign was the 2006-II one. Tolima finished #1 in the league and faced Boyacá Chicó, Deportivo Pasto, and Atlético Nacional in the semi-finals. For most of the period, Atlético Nacional topped the category, with Deportes Tolima always one point back. They came out on top following a thrilling 2-1 victory away at Atlético Nacional. And following a 2-0 victory against Boyacá Chicó, they went to the championship game against Cucuta Deportivo. The first match was played away in Ccuta, where Tolima failed 1-0. The second match was played at home in Ibagué, where Tolima levelled the score at 1-1 with a goal from Yulián Anchico, however, it wasn’t sufficient to claim the league.

Tolima qualified for the 2006 Copa Sudamericana as they placed #5 altogether in the 2005 standings. The squad started the contest in the first round, defeating Independiente Medelln 4-2 overall. Tolima and Mineros de Guayana drew on the total in the following round. However, Tolima advanced to the following round based on away goals. The team’s opponent in the 3rd round was Pachuca. Whilst Pachuca went on to win the cup, Tolima was relegated from the tournament after winning the opening leg 2-1 at home however losing the return leg 5-1 in Mexico.

    2007 League

Crucial players including Nicolás Ayr, Diego Cochas, Gustavo Savoia, Gustavo Bolvar, Jorge Perlaza, Roller Cambindo, Javier Arizala, and Jésus Sinisterra were signed by Deportes Tolima for the 2007 season. Jaime de la Pava, a new coach for Tolima, was also hired.

Tolima earned a spot in the 2007 Copa Libertadores by placing #2 generally in the 2006 standings. By beating Deportivo Táchira in total to start the competition, they advanced to the group phase alongside the teams Grêmio, Cerro Porter, and the team that defeated Tolima in the 2006-II championships, Ccuta Deportivo. Tolima lost to Cucuta Deportivo at home and was relegated upon placing third in the group phase. They had a performance of 2 victories, one tie, and three defeats. With their victories coming over Gremio and Cerro Porteno, are the 2 category champions.

    The 2010s

The squad advanced to the 2011 Copa Libertadores’ first round after taking the first position in the yearly table in 2010, and Tolima shocked everyone by defeating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Corinthians 2-0. Ronaldo confirmed his retirement some few days following the game, making the contest against Tolima the final one of his career path. The Colombian team advanced to the group phase, came in #3, and was relegated. Hence losing to Cruzeiro 6-1 embarrassingly.

In 2014, Tolima defeated Independiente Santa Fe 3-2 in total to win the Copa Colombia for the 1st occasion in the club’s existence.

    Stadium at Deportes Tolima

The Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro is a sporting facility situated in Ibagué, the administrative centre of the Tolima department. There are presently 28,100 seats available.

Deportes Tolima, a Category Primera A football team from Colombia, plays its home games in the stadium, which is mostly used for football. On February 2, 2011, in the 2011 Copa Libertadores, Ronaldo of Brazil had the final match of his vocation there while playing for Corinthians against Deportes Tolima.

    Background

Even though the department did not yet have a competitive squad, these years of campaigns, meetings, and actions aimed to fulfil the dreams of Ibaguereos and Tolimenas gave the project more momentum. The big “week Pro-stadium” event, which featured a parade of players, sports days, and the important match between professional clubs Millionaires and Bucaramanga, was chronicled in the newspaper El Comercio’s edition of June 23, 1951. Ibague was resolved to finish the job when the renowned court in Bethlehem touched himself Civil-Military Chief Augusto Cesar Cuellar Velandia during a friendly game between the teams Deportes Quindio (professional) and Boca Juniors (amateur) on January 19, 1955. I took Humberto Gonzalez Ruiz to recommend to the president the requirement for a stadium to Ibague.

And per the newspaper, a meeting of prominent people to determine the location of the stadium was reported in La Epoca, edited by Adriano Tribin Piedrahita, edition 105 of October 12, 1954.

The meeting was presided over by Governor Cesar Cuellar Velandia, Mayor Lysimachus Parra Bernal, Secretary Bernardo Tello, and representatives from the sports world. As per the note, the Tolima authorities provided 10,000 pesos, while Nicholas Rivera, the Pro-stadium campaign’s treasurer, carried onto another 7,000 pesos. On a plot granted by the city of Avila Serrano, it was constructed on July 20, 1955, in a record-breaking 55 days under the name Gustavo Rojas Pinilla stadium. Its original seating size was 3,000, and on July 20, 1955, Boca Juniors de Cali won 3-2 on the road against Deportes Tolima of Cali in the stadium’s inaugural game.

Being the first stadium in the nation to have a direct tunnel onto the field and not having shielding mesh for supporters made it one of the oldest stadiums in the nation. To accomplish this admirable goal, the authorities, the town square, and Gabriel Camargo Salamanca Coldeportes have worked together since 2000 to completely reconstruct and upgrade the FIFA-required regulations. The northern stand was expanded during the most recent restoration, which also added technical benches, illumination, and adequate backstage space.

    Renovation

The stadium’s original structure had seating for 3,000 people. With an existing size of 28,180 spectators, the event that originally held 18,000 people was increased to 18,000 in the years before the 1970 National Games.

    • Murillo Toro, then known as St. Boniface, was the focus of his maiden spare for the National Games in 1970. And at that moment he had the required facilities to host the maiden national fair.

    • It was agreed to maintain the western bleachers at one story when it collapsed in 1981. And from the late 1990s, work has been ongoing to extend the eastern bleachers.

    • Following a competitive bidding process in July of last year, the International Power Company was tasked with installing 103 new 2000W Arena Vision and rush fixtures at a value of approximately 340 million pesos.

    • Improvements to the stadium’s illumination were made in response to CONMEBOL complaints about its illumination. But the procedure of implementing the new lights met with failure. On September 6, the system failed during a Copa Colombia night match between Tolima and Atletico Nacional because one of the transformers was overloaded. According to the director of the organization in control of Murillo Toro, Deportes Tolima’s involvement in the Copa Libertadores will go off without a hitch. The lights had a 750-lumen rating and were operating at 260 lumens.

    • The northern stand would be completely functional this semester, with new places, including the reliance of firefighters, nurses, and police leadership, following more than 2 years of work. Nevertheless, we still need to address the moisture issues that develop amid the old & new buildings. Because they have led to some puddles on the property.

    • The stadium had renovations in 2015 in preparation for the Colombian National Games. The cost of the new field, its extension, the addition of changing rooms, and the placement of seats totalled 13 billion COP. It was decided to limit the stadium’s seating to 28,100 people. This was the initial phase of construction; in the long term, it’s anticipated that the entire stadium would be able to fulfil FIFA-style standards.

    Name

Throughout its existence, the stadium has had various name changes.
In memory of the city (established as San Bonifacio de Ibague) and the general president of the republic at the moment, Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, subsequently modified to Manuel Murillo Toro in memory of the politician and author who served as president of the republic twice.

    Exhibitions

All sorts of sporting and cultural activities, including intercollegiate tournaments, national contests, and folk festivals, have been able to take place in this environment.
Pertaining the Deportes Tolima The Manuel Murillo Toro has earned a close of the first B 1994, Merconorte late 1997 and 1998, the finals of the Copa Mustang 2003–II, the final 2006–II, and Postobon League final 2010–II in relation of the continental competitions Copa Libertadores 2004, 2007,2010,2013; Copa Libertadores II; Copa Libertadores III; Copa Libertadores IV; Copa Liber

    F.C. Hebei

Hebei Football Club is a competitive Chinese football team that competes in the Chinese Super League tier with permission from the Chinese Football Association (simplified Chinese: ]; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: Hébi Zqi Jùlèbù) (CFA). The squad is situated in Langfang, Hebei, and the 30,000-seat Langfang Stadium serves as their home field.

The club was taken acquired by China Fortune Land Development, real estate developers, on January 27, 2015.

Hebei is the seventh-most valued football team in China, refer to Forbes, with a team valuation of $90 million and projected 2015 revenues of $22 million.

    The Hebei F.C. Background

The Hebei Football Association and the Hebei Zhongji Group pledged to contribute 3 million Yuan per season for the following 4 seasons when they created Hebei Zhongji on May 28, 2010. For the 2011 league season, they signed up to compete in China League Two, the 3rd division of the Chinese football league structure, under the name Hebei Yilin Shanzhuang (Simplified Chinese: ). Upon placing fifth in the group phase, they were however unable to move on to the Play-offs.

The Hebei Zhongji Group acquired sole control of the club on October 17, 2011, and the Hebei FA-owned footballers were divided into a new team named Hebei Youth. This marked the end of the two organizations’ cooperative relationship. Hebei Zhongji won 18 games, drew five, and lost just once in the 2012 league season, finishing first in the North Group.

Though, they were eliminated from the Play-offs by Hubei China-Kyle with a tally of 1-1, having lost on the away goals rule.

In order to handle the team for the remainder of the 2013–2014 league match, Guo Ruilong was hired on August 16, 2013. Despite his short stay at the club, he rapidly guided them to advancement after finalizing runners-up at the close of the year. Whereas Nelson Agresta, an Uruguayan, was introduced as the club’s maiden foreign manager on December 26, 2013, Huang Yang was hired to coach the team over the offseason.

However, upon being acquired by China Fortune Land Development on January 27, 2015, they modified their team name to Hebei China Fortune (Simplified Chinese: ). On the same day, the club and Serbian manager Radomir Anti inked a 3 years agreement. After being promoted to the Chinese Super League in 2015, they modified the club identity to Hebei China Fortune F.C. in December of that same year. Since then, the team has increased its effort to win the league by signing foreign stars like Ezequiel Lavezzi and Gervinho.

As a piece of a bigger strategy for Hebei China Fortune F.C. and Chinese football to make significant strides by the close of the decade, the Chilean Manuel Pellegrini was appointed as the club’s manager in August 2016. Chris Coleman’s hiring on June 10, 2018, marked a new phase in this procedure.

    Manager of Hebei F.C.

Erstwhile football player and present South Korean football manager Kim Jong-boo (Hangul: born January 13, 1965) is in control of Hebei. At the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship, he played for South Korea’s under-20 squad, contributing 2 goals and 2 assists to his team’s run to the semifinals. At the 1986 FIFA World Cup, he subsequently represented South Korea and earned the equalizer over Bulgaria.

Hebei China Fortune F.C., a member of the Chinese Super League, is currently owned by them since they acquired the team on January 27, 2015. Through China Fortune Land Development Holding, Wang Wenxue is still the company’s major stakeholder.

Wang Wenxue’s net worth was however projected to be US$4.1 billion as of May 2015.

Hebei F.C. plays in what league?

    Super League of China

The top-level of competitive football in China is played in the Chinese Football Association Super League, sometimes referred to as the Chinese Super League or CSL and now branded as the China Ping An Chinese Football Association Super League due to funding considerations (CFA). The old top-flight, the Chinese Jia-A League, was however renamed to create the league in 2004.

The league’s debut season had twelve clubs, but it has subsequently grown to eighteen teams for the 2022 campaign. From the CSL’s start, 35 teams have participated, and eight have won the championship:

Beijing Guoan, Shanghai Port, Jiangsu, Shenzhen, Shandong Taishan, Guangzhou (eight), Dalian Shide, Changchun Yatai, and (all one title). Shandong Taishan, who claimed the 2021 season, is the reigning Super League holder.

Having an average crowd of 24,107 for league games during the 2018 season, the Chinese Super League is one of the most well-liked competitive sports leagues in China. This ranked after the Bundesliga, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Liga MX as the twelfth-highest domestic competitive sports league and the 6th top competitive association football league in the world, respectively.

The CSL Company, the League’s present commercial arm, is a corporation in which the Chinese Football Association and all of its constituent clubs serve as shareholders. The League is presently operated with the CFA’s approval. The CFA will eventually transfer its ownership of The CSL Company to the clubs, and a professional union made up of CSL clubs will be created to serve as the League’s administrative organization.

    Description

    Tournament

The Chinese Super League begins in February or March and concludes in November or December, in contrast to many major European competitions such as the Bundesliga, Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A. Each club faces every other club two times during each season, once at home and once away. Teams compete in 30 matches per season for a cumulative of 240 matches in the Super League, which presently has 16 clubs.

The leading 2 clubs from League One are advanced to take the positions of the 2 teams that finished the season in the last spot and second spot, respectively.

The highest total of points earned throughout the season determines the League place. Tiebreakers are used if 2 or even more teams are tied on points in the following manner:

    1. Most points earned during games between the teams in question;
    2. The teams’ highest goal differential in respective games;
    3. The most goals scored in contests between the two teams in question;
    4. The backup teams in the backup league with the most points totaled
    5. The U19 league teams with the most points overall

    The greatest goal differential; a seventh-highest total of goals scored;

    1. Fair-Play points (1 point for a yellow card and 3 points for a red card are deducted by clubs);
    2. Drawn at random
Chinese Super League teams competing internationally

China received two spots in the AFC Champions League when it was first introduced by the Asian Football Confederation in the 2002–03 season. 2009 saw a shift in the AFC Champions League eligibility process as 4 seats were given to China by the AFC. The league’s 3 leading teams and the Chinese FA Cup victor advance to the AFC Champions League the following season. The Champions League spot will go to the league’s fourth-place team if the FA Cup finalists complete the regular season in the third spot or better.

Chinese clubs claimed the AFC Champions League twice during the 2002–03 season and the 2017–18 campaign, trailing the Korean K-League with 5 victories and the Japanese J-League with 3 victories.

    Advancement

The leading 4-level leagues in China are hence set to expand, according to Li Yuyi, vice-president of the CFA, who made the announcement on November 17, 2017. The Chinese Super League will grow to eighteen clubs before China League One, which will have twenty clubs, the Chinese Football Association Member Association Champions League has 48 clubs, while China League Two has 32 clubs.

The CFA added, “We should create CSL to be the sixth-best league in the world.”

    Background

    Roots

The National Football Conference, the predecessor to the Chinese National Football League, was established in 1951. It was an eight-team round-robin competition.

The league was split into 2 Divisions in 1956, and advancement and relegation between the 2 levels began in 1957. The contest was however rebranded as the National Football League in 1954. The Chinese Football Association started allowing business groups to sponsor and finance football teams in the 1980s. The National Football League Division 1 Group A, also known as the Chinese Jia-A League, was the league’s inaugural home and away season. It was funded by the Goldlion Group, and it began in 1987. The leading seven clubs of 1986 Division 1 and Liaoning, the 1985 season winners who missed the 1986 league campaign to contend in the Asian Club Championship, were among the teams involved.

The 2 groups merged during the 1988 season, however, they split up once more in 1989.

The Chinese Jia-A League became the nation’s inaugural professional football league in 1994 as a component of the drive to modernize the sports sector. The Jia-A league was successful in its initial years, however, in the late 1990s there were a lot of negative comments about the League’s management procedures, including the lack of consistency in important regulations and the absence of adequate development in some of its member teams. Gambling, match-fixing, and crime all had an impact on the league during the same period.

Jia-tumultuous A’s situation is causing a difficult investment setting, and sponsors and club owners are pulling out. When the Chinese Football Association made the decision to overhaul the League structure, the Chinese Super League was eventually born. The original idea is to establish really commercial approaches and allow the professional football market to function more easily while learning from the professional Leagues in Europe to restructure the league system and boost efficiency.

Yan Shiduo, vice-president of the Chinese Football Association, stated on January 13, 2001
Association talked of establishing a new structure of professional leagues.
The Chinese Super League was established in 2004 after a resolution by the CFA in 2002.

    Foundation

The CSL is far more demanding on teams than the Jia-A. A number of minimal standards were enforced by the CFA and CSL committees to guarantee professionalism.
Every club should have good management, financial integrity, and also a youth training system. The CSL released the inaugural edition of its club requirements in 2002 and amended it numerous times before introducing a club licensing process in 2004.

The CSL has a backup league in addition to the regular professional league. The Youth Super League competes at the U-19, U-17, U-15, U-14, and also U-13 levels.

The CSL and China League One’s objectives are to motivate high-caliber and top-level contests, incorporate improved managerial ideas into the market, uphold the delivery of threshold professionalism, stimulate the upsurge of more high-caliber foreign coaches and athletes, and little by little set up the European structure for player enrollment and transfers.

    Preparing a system of cooperation

On May 27, 2016, the Chinese Professional Football League’s preparatory committee was formed. Its members come from five CSL clubs, three CL1 clubs, 2 CL2 clubs, and 2 CFA delegates. The plan is to split the Chinese Super League, China Football League One, and China Football League Two from the CFA League Structure. This would give China three professional-level leagues. The PFL will be a privately held corporation that is entirely controlled by the Member Clubs that now make up the League. Each club has one vote per shareholder on matters like deal renewals and regulation revisions. Also, the newly established PFL would have commercial freedom from The CFA, enabling it to secure its own sponsorship and broadcasting deals.

The CFA will no longer own any shares of the League, however, in its capacity as China’s national football association, it will continue to approve contest rule books and oversee on-field activities. In accordance with a unique contract between CFA and PFL, it also organizes The CFA Cup tournament, in which PFL Member Clubs participate, as well as the lower-tier leagues listed after CL2. The CFA can vote on a limited number of topics, however, it is not involved in the day-to-day operations of the CSL, CL1, or CL2.

    FA Cup of China

The national knockout cup series in China is known as the Chinese FA Cup and is run by the Chinese Football Association (Chinese: shortened as CFA Cup). Shandong Taishan is the present champion after defeating Shanghai Port in 2021 to win a record-tying 7th championship.

    Background

In 1956, it was also first known as the Chinese National Football Championship (Chinese: ).

Following the Culture Revolution, the competition was restructured, and the Chinese FA Cup was first employed in 1984. The sixth National Games of China in 1987, it was abandoned. In order to qualify for the Asian Cup Winners’ Cup, it was once more conducted as the Chinese National Cup Winners’ Cup (Chinese: ) between 1990 – 1992.

Following China’s professional football league was created in 1995, it began playing in its present style. When the 2011 Chinese FA Cup was declared, it was reinstated after a protracted absence. It had been temporarily dropped in 2007 for the Chinese Football Association’s 2008 Summer Olympic strategy. Per the new tagline Game For All, amateur teams were first utilized in the 2012 Chinese FA Cup.

    Cup of China’s FA

The Chinese FA Super Cup, originally known as the Chinese Football Super Cup (Chinese: pinyin: Zhngguó Zqu Chobàbi), is a preseason football event conducted in China before the start of the regular season. The champions of the FA Cup and the Professional League’s highest level (formerly the Chinese Jia-A League, currently the Chinese Super League) from the previous season compete in it. The opposition is the league runners-up from the previous season if both teams are the same. It is the Chinese translation of the FA Community Shield, a competition in which the Premier League and FA Cup champions square off for an award. Although it was established in 1995, it was not conducted from 2004 to 2011.

Guangzhou has won 4 championships, hence making them the top club.

    Shanghai East Asia FC

Former Chinese international footballer Xu Genbao created the club on December 25, 2005, under the name Shanghai East Asia FC. However, the Genbao Football Base, another football institution built by Xu, employed its former students as players.

In the 2006 league season, these graduates however established their first team as they also made their professional football league debut in China’s third tier.

In the 2018 Chinese Super League season, they made it to the top flight and won the league for the first time.

    The Club’s Value

Shanghai Port FC was the third-most valued football club in China, according to a Forbes study from 2015. Thus they had an estimated $37 million in income and a club value of $159 million.

The club earned CN 565.7 million in revenue in 2015, according to the parent company’s annual report. They also had total assets of CN 286.8 million, net assets of CN 59.7 million, as well as a net loss of CN 41.5 million.

    History of the Club

    League Two: 2005-2007

96 academy members born between 1988 and 1991 were enrolled on May 16, 2000. This was the day Xu Genbao also established the Genbao Football Base.

In 2005, Xu Genbao established the Shanghai East Asia Football Club. A professional team for young Chinese athletes between the ages of 14 and 17 also existed there. Shanghai East Asia participated in China League Two in 2006.

The youngest Chinese goal scorer, Cao Yunding, was 16 years and 242 days old. However Wu Lei, who is only 14 years and 287 days old, is the youngest Chinese professional football player.

    The turnaround

As the squad manager, Xu chose French young coach Claude Lowitz from the Base. The third-tier Chinese league system’s China League Two was thus where the team competed.

Claude Lowitz however left the club at the conclusion of 2006. Jiang Bingyao, a former assistant manager, was promoted to manager as a result.

Also the young East Asia FC went on to win the division title in 2007 after learning from and gaining experience from their debutante season. Thus receiving a promotion to China League One, the football league’s second division.

    League One: 2008–2012

Despite the promotion’s success, concerns about the team’s future surfaced. This was due to the fact that Xu’s prior attempts to establish a professional club ultimately resulted in the sale of said efforts to Shanghai Shenhua in 2002 as a result of financial issues.

However, the Shanghai government provided financial assistance to Xu in June 2007. East Asia FC would then represent Shanghai at the 2009 Chinese National Games in return.

Shanghai East Asia placed sixth at the conclusion of the 2008 China League One division season. Shanghai East Asia however participated in the 2009 National Games on behalf of the Shanghai football squad.

    Better Management

A self-appointed manager, Xu Genbao guided the men’s football squad to victory as well as the gold medal.

Former Chinese League fan Zhiyi was given his first management position at the club for the 2010–11 league season. Additionally, Nikola Karçev and Fabrice Nol were introduced as the team’s first-ever international players.

They placed fourth overall at the end of the season, just missing out on promotion by one victory.

What happened after they lost players?

Five of the team’s starters left the organization prior to the 2011 season. Wang Jiayu, the team captain, Zhang Linpeng, a Chinese international, as well as Cao Yunding, Jiang Zhipeng, and Gu Chao, all under the age of 23. However, at the end of that season, the team came 9th.

The club sold its team name to the Zobon Group, a sponsor at the start of the 2012 campaign. It was sold for 30 million Yuan on a 3-year deal. As a result, Shanghai Tellace became the name of the club’s first team on December 31, 2011. Shanghai East Asia, however, is still the name of the club.

They won the league championship and were promoted to the Chinese Super League at the completion of the regular season.

    CSL: 2013-present

Shanghai East Asia once more changed its first team name to Port Shanghai F.C. on December 28, 2012. This was done as part of a sponsorship contract worth 40 million Yuan with Shanghai International Port.

On January 7, 2013, the club formally bought Shanghai Zobon, another Shanghai-based football team, during the off-season. Before being disbanded, they had competed in the 2012 China League Two-tier.

Shanghai SIPG was formally taken over by the Shanghai International Port in November 2014. The youthful players joined the backup squad. They won their first three games of the season under Sven-Göran Eriksson’s leadership.

Due to the registration restriction in place at the time, Jean Evrard Kouassi was sent to the reserve team. With 65 points, Shanghai SIPG took second place at the end of the regular season. It was the highest league place they had ever held for the team. They were successful in qualifying for the AFC Champions League.

    Transfer Windows

Shanghai SIPG spent €56 million to bring in the Brazilian international Hulk during the summer transfer window. The club finished third in the CSL with 52 points after being defeated in the quarterfinals of the ACL.

Shanghai won its first CSL championship in 2018 thanks to Wu Lei, who was the league’s leading scorer that year. They won the Super Cup in 2019, their second-highest-level trophy.

    Shanghai Port F.C. Stadium

Shanghai, China’s Pudong Football Stadium is now known as the SAIC Motor Pudong Arena due to sponsorship issues. It will be finished in October 2020 and served as Shanghai Port’s home stadium in the Chinese Super League. There are 37,000 seats available in the stadium.

    Jung-won Seo (2021-present)

Onetime football player and present coach Seo Jung-won was born in South Korea on December 17, 1970. He was also known as the “Nalssaendori,” which is South Korean for an agile man, and was a winger with lightning-quick pace.

    Playing Career

At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Seo competed for South Korea’s under-23 team. During the game against Sweden, he scored a goal that struck the opposition’s goalpost.

Following his accomplishments in the Olympics, he allegedly received contracts from FC Barcelona and other major European clubs, however he chose to remain in South Korea to complete a two-year obligatory military duty.

At the 1994 FIFA World Cup, he also represented South Korea and netted the equalizer against Spain.

Seo yearned to compete in Europe upon completing his military duty with Sangmu FC, and even traveled to Germany and the Netherlands to take part in tryouts. He was able to sign a deal with Portuguese club Benfica in the summer of 1997, and during the preseason he played in 4 matches and scored one. Nevertheless, the Korean FA rejected his hiring so that they could not both meet the criteria for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Seo became the first South Korean footballer to compete in Ligue 1 in January 1998 after signing with the French team Strasbourg.

He effectively used his maiden season helping them stay in Ligue 1, however after his manager was fired the next year, he was benched. Even though he contracted chickenpox from his son and competed in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, his performance was insignificant and the squad was eliminated in the group phase.

He moved back to South Korea in February 1999 and decided to join Suwon Samsung Bluewings. With 12 titles, and two Asian Club Championships, he captained Suwon during its peak for 6 years. Finally, he participated in the Austrian Bundesliga with SV Ried and Austria Salzburg. In 2005, Kurier and Sportwoche, 2 Austrian media outlets, chose him as the Austrian Footballer of the Year.

    Coaching career

Seo was added to the list of candidates for the open national team managerial role in July 2007, following the resignation of South Korea’s head coach Pim Verbeek. He collaborated as a member of the coaching team for the South Korea under-20 and under-23 squad from 2009 to 2010, alongside his previous colleague and close friend Hong Myung-bo. Seo did join the senior team’s coaching team under manager Cho Kwang-rae in 2010. He joined the Suwon Samsung Bluewings coaching crew in 2012 and was named the team’s manager in 2013. Under his leadership, the Bluewings finished second in the league in 2014 and 2015 and earned the Korean FA Cup in 2016. A key K League rivalry between FC Seoul and Suwon Samsung Bluewings was involved in the FA Cup Final.

When FC Seoul equalized the two-leg total score at 3-3 with a goal in the 93rd min, the game entered additional time. Suwon Samsung Bluewings prevailed 10-9. After a goalless additional duration, the game was finally agreed on penalties. So Seo received his first trophy in his management career with this one.

    Granero, José Carlos (2018-2020)

José Carlos Granero Granero, an onetime professional football player from Spain who primarily played as a right back or central defender, is now a manager. He was born on May 27, 1963.

He had a reputation as a promotion expert, gaining promotions to Segunda División B and Segunda División 4 times each, and gaining 2 more in China subsequently in his profession.

    Playing Experience

Granero, who was raised in Chella, Valencia, played for local powerhouse Valencia CF for 6 years, mostly with the reserves. His best performance came with 15 outings during the 1984–85 season (seven starts). On January 15, 1984, he played in his first La Liga match, a 2-1 road loss to Real Valladolid.

Granero departed the Che in 1986, then played for Recreativo de Huelva for a few seasons in the Segunda División, missing all of the 1987–88 season’s games. After stints with Segunda División B teams CD Alcoyano and Benidorm as well as amateurs CD Jávea, all in his home country, he set to retire in 1994 at the age of 31.

    Career as a coach

Granero began working out with his previous team before moving on to play in the lesser leagues the ensuing years. He guided Llria CF to first position in the Tercera División regular season in 1996, and then defeated FC Cartagena, FC Santboià, and UD Poblense in the promotion playoffs. In the late 1990s, he also guided Ontinyent CF, Benidorm, and Novelda CF to promotions to the 3rd division.

Alicante CF made a triumphant comeback to tier 2 in 2007–08 under Granero’s leadership.

He failed to save SD Ponferradina’s quick demotion the next season (he was fired midway through it and later restored), suffering the same fate (advancement in 2010 accompanied by demotion).

When Luis de la Fuente was fired on October 18, 2011, Granero was assigned to Deportivo Alavés in the 3rd level.

The next June, he left the Mendizorrotza Stadium and worked with Real Oviedo for the ensuing 2 seasons at that division.

Granero was appointed head coach of Veria FC on May 28, 2014, after Quique Hernández, a fellow countryman, was named the Super League Greece team’s director of football.

After that, he went back home and oversaw two third-tier teams.

On November 24, 2017, Granero left for another country, this time making a deal with Chengdu Better City F.C., a team that had been dropped to China’s 4th league.

He received instant advancement to the country’s League One.

    Private life

Roberto Granero, the younger brother of Granero, was a midfielder who spent more than ten years playing in the 3rd division. Later, he continued coaching, both as José Carlos’ assistant and independently.

All 3 of them played football as young players at Valencia, together with his son Borja.

For the remainder of the 2012 season and the 2013 season, Geng was the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

On February 24, 2014, Geng was loaned to Shanghai Shenhua of the Chinese Super League for the remainder of the 2014 campaign. On March 9, 2014, he earned his club appearance in a 2-0 victory over Shanghai Shenxin. Geng committed to Shanghai on December 29, 2014, as a long-term transfer. When Li Shuai came into the team in 2016, he was relegated to the backup position.

Geng signed a five-year deal in February 2017 to join fellow Super League team Hebei China Fortune, however owing to a shortage of transfer quotas, he was forced to play the 2017 season with the Hebei club’s backup team. He earned his club appearance on October 27, 2018, in a 3-2 victory over Dalian Yifang at home.

    International work experience
