Bollklubben Häcken, sometimes spelled BK Häcken or just Häcken (pronounced [hkn] in Swedish) is a Gothenburg-based professional football team. It now competes in Swedish football’s Allsvenskan league. Häcken became founded on August 2nd, 1940 and made their Allsvenskan debut in 1983. They have played sixteen seasons in the league.
The team plays its home games at Bravida Arena and is a member of Göteborgs Fotbollförbund. The club’s emblem and uniform are yellow and black, which are also the colors of the team.
History
The starting point
A group of teenagers aged 14 to 15 founded the club with the goal of creating an organization and competing in the national league system, rather than merely playing football for pleasure. The guys approached Göteborgs Fotbollförbund, the local FA; they had previously played as BK Kick. Since another organization had already registered the name, Bollklubben Häcken became chosen in honor of the enormous hedge (Swedish: häck) that grew surrounding the field where the boys used to practice. On August 2, 1940, the Bollklubben Häcken organization became founded.
Initial decades
After the first few years, the club only sometimes participated in games, youth championships, and other games, but finally they began to compete at the senior level. The team began to adopt the league structure in 1943, and success came quickly. The club advanced from west seniorclass 4 to seniorclass 1 during the period between 1944 and 1947 by winning its league.
The 1950s got off to a similarly successful start as the 1940s. When the club won Division 3 in 1951, they transitioned from being a local club to being referred to as a “comet team” in the national media. The club won Division 4 in 1950. The team battled for a spot in the Allsvenskan in 1953 but lost to Kalmar FF, and in 1954 the team faced demotion from Division 2. When 18,229 fans attended the club’s Division 3 match against IK Oddevold in 1955, it broke the previous attendance record. BK Häcken finally won the league, but they quickly left again[clarification required] and spent the remainder of the decade competing in Division 3.
The new clubhouse, which is today known as, was inaugurated at the beginning of the 1960s.
