For more than 15 years, Sutton Coldfield College has been home to the Birmingham METS Basketball, a Junior Club that has built a highly successful basketball program.
The program serves as a stepping stone for young athletes looking to hone their skills in their chosen sport and pursue further opportunities in Basketball, such as college scholarships, university athletic programs, and even professional careers.
It is the policy of the Birmingham METS Basketball Academy that all enrolled student-athletes follow a Course of Study that corresponds with their Prior Learning and/or Qualifications on Entry.
Student-athletes should expect to spend 10-14 hours per week on Netball-specific training and match play in addition to their chosen Academic Pathway’s Tutorial, Purposeful Work Experience, Math, or English (Subject to QoE).

Overview Of City Of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Academy
Many of Birmingham’s top basketball players have been nurtured by the City of Birmingham Rockets, the city’s largest and most storied basketball club, which has been around for over 20 years and offers programs for players of all ages, from 5 to adult.
As part of our new collaboration, Rockets will run a basketball school out of Birmingham Met College, where students will receive daily on- and off-court basketball instruction in addition to their regular academic coursework.
The club will organize multiple varsity teams at the university, and they will collaborate with the Rockets to give academy participants access to professional-level training.
Every member of the City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball Club is required to enroll in a Course of Study that corresponds with their current level of academic achievement.

How to Join Birmingham Basketball Academy
In order to enroll in the Birmingham METS Basketball Academy Education Programme, prospective students must have already earned the necessary number of GCSEs at the appropriate entry level for their chosen course of study.
However, if a student does not succeed in either Math or English, they will be asked to retake those subjects while they are enrolled in the Programme.
Also, if a student does not have the GCSE/Level 2 results necessary for a Level 3 Study Curriculum, they will still be eligible to participate in the netball programme by studying at Level 1 or 2.
Presentation and Evaluation
Shipping and handling will occur at Sutton Coldfield College.
Also, training will be held on Monday and Tuesday, while games will be played on Wednesday.
The program makes use of the college’s two sports halls and gym for the practical components of the curriculum, and the college’s main facilities house the necessary information technology (IT) and specialist fitness, massage, and classroom resources for many of the taught modules.
Course selection will also determine how the study plan is evaluated.
