2005 to 2016: Promotions
After defeating Volda in the promotion play-offs 4-2 on aggregate, Kristiansund got promoted to the 2. division in 2005. Following the promotion, Brakstad resigned as head coach, and Ole Gunnar Iversen replaced him. In their inaugural season in the 2. divisjon in 2006, Kristiansund placed eighth. In 2007, due to the poor turf conditions at Omsundet at Frei, Kristiansund relocated there. The Atlanta Stadium Kristiansund BK began to appear like a contender for promotion after Geir Midtsian took over as head coach before the 2007 season.
With New Zealand international Kris Bright on the team, who scored 23 goals in 26 matches for the club, Kristiansund BK finished fifth in 2007 and fourth in 2008. In the 2008 Norwegian Championship‘s second round, the group also defeated Rosenborg Soccer Cup.
The hiring of Geir by Kristiansund BK became public on November 10th, 2011. Beginning on January 1, 2012, Bakke, who previously served as assistant coach at the top clubs Vlerenga and Stabak, would assume the position of head coach.
