For years, including the team’s early years in the NBA, the Kings were not operating in Rochester, New York.
However, their name changed to the Sacramento Kings in 1985. They formerly bore the name ”Rochester Royals”.
In spite of their long era of existence, the Sacramento Kings have never been more than a minor league team, with their only NBA title coming in 1951. That was when they still the name, ”Rochester Royals” and defeated the New York Knicks.
