The Early Beginnings

A group of prominent Herzegovinians from Mostar came up with the idea to start the Hrvatski Sokol youth sports organization in 1896. (Croatian Falcon). This was however prohibited at the time. However, in 1905, Croat youth under the direction of Professor Kutreb were successful.

How did the name come about?

Zrinjski was defeated by the Bulgarian team Ludogorets Razgrad in the third round in 2018. Additionally, by the Cypriot team APOEL in 2020 and the Swedish club Malmö in 2019.

Rise from Defeat

It’s interesting to note that the team was led by Croatian managers Ante Mie and Hari Vukas during its first two European “campaigns.” Mladen iovi, a Bosnian manager, oversaw Zrinjski in the third.

Under the leadership of manager Sergej Jakirovi, the team won the league championship for a record seventh time in the ensuing 2021–22 season.

Velez

The other primary football team in Mostar, Vele Mostar, is the major adversary of Zrinjski Mostar. Similar to the Sarajevo-eljezniar derby, the Mostar derby is fiercely contested.

History

War Period (1992-1996)

Bosnia and Herzegovina clubs quit the Yugoslav First League after Yugoslavia’s dissolution; the league ceased to exist after the 1991–92 season. No games were played in the 1992–93 season due to the commencement of the Bosnian War in 1992. The 1995–96 season marked the return of competition held under the aegis of N/FSBiH.

After the War (1996-2000)

Up until 1998 and 2000, Bosnia & Herzegovina had three distinct football leagues. FIFA and UEFA supported the union of all three organizations as N/FSBiH.

Because they only supported associations that were supported by officially recognized state entities both during the war and after the Dayton Peace Agreement was signed. Additionally, this resulted from FIFA’s decision to recognize N/FSBiH in July 1996.

However, UEFA accepted N/FSBiH the same year and did not recognize it as a full member until 1998. As a result, only N/FSBiH clubs and its national team were eligible to compete at the official international level.

Since the end of the 1990s, N/FSBiH and its rival, Premier League BiH (Premijer Liga), have been combined. The idea was to include teams from three different organizations for the first time, but the Serb association refused it.

Thus teams from the Croat football association participated in the playoffs for the seasons 1997–98 and 1999–2000 instead.

Due to the Croat’s association’s uncertainty on the choice of stadiums in which games should be played, the 1998–1999 playoff was called off. F.C. Guangzhou

A competitive Chinese football team, Guangzhou Football Club, previously Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao Football Club, competes in the Chinese Super League with permission from the Chinese Football Association. The squad is headquartered in Guangzhou, Guangdong, and the Tianhe Stadium, which has a 54,856 occupancy, serves as their home field. The Evergrande Real Estate Group (56.71%) and the e-commerce firm Alibaba Group (37.81%) are their largest shareholders, while its remaining shares are listed in the Chinese OTC market.

The club was established in 1954, and before going professional in 1993, it won a number of second-tier championships. Their performance rose, earning them a place as runners-up in China’s top division. The club experienced a phase of stagnation and deterioration due to its inability to build upon these performances before briefly experiencing a rebirth when they won the second tier in 2007. The club was penalized with demotion in 2009 when a match-fixing allegations surfaced.

The Evergrande Real Estate Group made the decision to buy the club and invested a sizable sum of money in the group. They received advancement right after, and in the 2011 season, they earned their first top-tier championship. The team won the AFC Champions League twice, in 2013 and 2015, making it the only Chinese football team to do so. The team, which debuted in 2013, is also the debut Chinese club to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The squad was estimated at Us$282 million in a 2016 Forbes article, the highest value of any Chinese football team, and had an operational deficit of more than US$200 million in 2015.

On October 26, 1977, Guangzhou made the uncommon decision to withdraw from the Chinese Football League and hired Luo Rongman to lead their young team in its place.

Until 1980, when it was judged they were old enough to compete in the senior football league structure, the team competed in the National Youth League. They began in the most current 3rd tier. His first move was to acquire Gao Lin, a striker for the Chinese national team, from Shanghai Shenhua, reportedly for a sum of $6 million.

He then abruptly substituted Peng Weiguo as head coach with Lee Jang-soo, an onetime manager of Beijing Guoan. On June 28, 2010, the club recruited Zheng Zhi, the captain of the Chinese national team, and Sun Xiang, the first Chinese football player to play in the UEFA Champions League with PSV Eindhoven. Atlético Mineiro of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A stated on June 30, 2010, that Guangzhou had paid a Brazilian record sum of 23 million to recruit Muriqui to a four-year contract.

Following defeating Hunan Billows 3-1 on October 30, 2010, Guangzhou won League One for a 2nd occasion and moved back to the Super League.

With the acquisition of Brazilian Cléo and Argentine Dario Conca during the 2011–12 campaign, Guangzhou Evergrande greatly bolstered their team.

Despite being raised to the Super League in the first season, the squad won the league championship with 4 matches left to play in late September 2011.

Guangzhou defeated South Korean winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors 5-1 in their inaugural AFC Champions League encounter in March 2012.
