    About IFK Norrköping

The Kamraterna Idrottsförening Norrköping, sometimes referred to as IFK Norrköping, often known as just Norrköping is a Swedish professional football club based in Norrköping. The club plays its home games at Stgötaporten and is a member of the Stergötlands Fotbollförbund. IFK Norrköping’s emblem and uniform are white and blue, which are also the club colors. The club, founded on May 29, 1897, has won six national cups and thirteen national championships.

IFK Norrköping competes in Allsvenskan, the first division in Sweden, where they first found success in 1943. The 1940s were IFK Norrköping’s most prosperous decade, during which time they won two Svenska Cupen championships and five Swedish championships, all while being coached by the Hungarian Lajos Czeizler and featuring players like Gunnar Nordahl and Nils Liedholm.

With their first victory since 1989, IFK Norrköping won the 2015 Allsvenskan, earning them a ticket in the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League second qualifying round.

    History

In the 20 years after World War II, IFK Norrköping dominated Swedish football, winning the top division 11 times, including the 1963 championship. Before the club added championship title number 12 to the trophy case, it took another 26 years.

In the last round of the 2015 Allsvenskan, IFK Norrköping defeated Malmö FF 2-0 on the road at Swedbank Stadion in Malmö to claim their 13th championship title. They had to wait 26 years in between crowns for the second time in a row. IFK Norrköping defeated IFK Göteborg, the Swedish Cup champions, to win supercupen on November 8. The defending Swedish champions put on a dominant display, winning 3-0.

    Rivalries

Prior to IK Sleipner’s relegation from the upper levels, the club and Sleipner, both from Norrköping, engaged in a bitter rivalry. Another storied rivalry that was particularly severe in the 1970s and early 2010s was against tvidabergs FF, also from the province of stergötland. Since Tvidaberg were dropped from the Allsvenskan, the significance of this rivalry has diminished. Malmö FF and IFK Norrköping are rivals, and their games are sometimes referred to as “The Working Class Derby.”

    Stadion IFK Norrköping

Previously known as Norrköpings Idrottspark, Nya Parken is also known as Norrköping for sponsorship purposes, Sweden’s PlatinumCars Arena is a multi-use stadium. It debuted on September 25th, 1903 and is mostly used for football games nowadays. It serves as the home field for IF Sylvia, IK Sleipner, and IFK Norrköping. Before the arena was rebuilt in 2008–09, the stadium could hold 19,414 spectators.

The Norrköping Sports Association’s Sport Festival was held on September 25, 1903, the day after construction started on April 27, 1903.

It served as the site for a few group stage matches at the 1958 FIFA World Cup. It held three Group B matches from the 1992 European Championship: CIS-Germany (1-1), Scotland-Germany (0-2) and Scotland-CIS (3-0).

The arena was reconstructed in 2008–2009. The arena’s seating capacity has dropped from 19,414 to 17,234 people, and artificial grass is currently used. The new stadium has 16 VIP booths, 515 VIP seats, three bars, two restaurants, and Teknikhallen, a modest indoor training facility. In 2010, the Norrköping city government sold the arena to IFK Norrköping for 308.5 million Swedish kronor. The arena had been known as Norrköpings Idrottspark from its inauguration in 1903 until its refurbishment in 2009, but the name was changed to Nya Parken following the renovation.

The third name change for the venue occurred in 2016; This time to Stgötaporten, after the sale of the name rights to an apartment building.

Malmö FF, a member of the Scania Football Association, was founded in 1910 and has its home base at Eleda Stadion in Malmö, Scania. With a record 22 Swedish championship victories, the club also holds the record for most national cup victories.

In 1944, Malmö FF won their first Championship. Malmö FF, the current powerhouse of Swedish football, also had success in the 1970s when they won four Svenska Cupen championships and five Swedish championships. The only club from the Nordic region to have advanced to the final of the European Cup, which was the forerunner of the UEFA Champions League, is Malmö FF. They also finished second in the 1979 European Champions Cup final, falling to English team Nottingham Forest by a score of 1-0.  Malmö FF received the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal for their accomplishments. They are also the only Nordic club to have participated in the 1979 Intercontinental Cup, which was the precursor of the FIFA Club World Cup.

Malmö FF is the team that holds the record for both goals scored and matches won. They are also currently the team that leads the overall Allsvenskan table maratontabellen. The squad recently qualified for three Champions League group rounds in 2014, 2015, and 2021. Malmö FF participated in the UEFA Europa League knockout rounds in 2019 and 2020.

    kits

The club’s traditional uniform consists of sky blue jerseys, white shorts, and sky blue stockings. These colors are also mirrored in the club’s emblem and uniform. The club’s major opponents include historical domestic foe IFK Göteborg, fellow regional rival Helsingborg, and traditionally local Division 2 Södra Götaland team IFK Malmö. They also have an official fan group called The MFF Support. The “Malmö Football Association” is the club’s name in its exact English translation.

    Background

    Early years

The club was founded in 1905 as a result of a municipal push to promote organized football among young people in Malmö. The Bollklubben Idrott, sometimes referred to as BK Idrott, was one of the junior teams and was the forerunner of the Malmö FF. In 1909, BK Idrott joined the IFK Malmö’s newly established football department. However they soon left due to problems between the two clubs. The Malmö FF was established on February 24, 1910, by the 19 BK Idrott members; Werner Mrtensson served as the organization’s first chairman.

The club played the majority of its games in the city division known as the Malmömästerskapen during its first ten years of existence because there was no official national league competition. They also played matches against Danish clubs and participated in regional competitions in Scania.

The Malmö FF made its first appearance in the Scanian regional championship final (Distriktsmästerskapen) in 1916, losing 3-4 to archrival Helsingborgs IF. The team won three games against their neighborhood rival IFK Malmö during the regular season, earning them the unofficial but coveted distinction of Malmö’s best football team. The Malmö FF participated in the Svenska Mästerskapet for the first time in 1917. It was a cup competition for the title of Swedish champions. However, they lost their opening game 4-1 to the IFK Malmö in the second qualifying round.

The team competed in the cup competition until 1922, reaching the quarterfinals in 1920 before being eliminated by the Landskrona BoIS. The Allsvenskan, which was initially established for the 1924–25 season, was subsequently replaced by the cup, and the victors were awarded the title of Swedish champions.

    The Swedish FA

The Swedish Football Association welcomed Swedish clubs to participate in recognized national events in 1920. Malmö FF was admitted to Sydsvenska Serien Division 2. They were promoted to the Svenska Serien Västra, the top level of play in Sweden at the time, after winning this division in their first year. They were, however, demoted after just one season and remained in the Sydsvenska Serien for over ten years until being promoted to the Allsvenskan once again in 1931.

Initial Allsvenskan years and early successes

The team maintained mid-table league places for two seasons before being punished by being demoted in 1934 for violating amateur rules. For each game, the club gave its players a little payment. This was typical at the time, even though it was against the regulations; Malmö FF was the only club to document it in the financial records.

The club also received suspensions for 26 players and the whole board of directors, in addition to being demoted to Division 2. According to Malmö FF and local media accounts of the incident, IFK Malmö reported the infraction to the Swedish Football Association. The ongoing rivalries between the clubs have been exacerbated by this assumption.

    Allsvenskan return

After spending the previous two seasons in Division 2, the team returned to the Allsvenskan in 1937. Eric Persson, who had served as secretary from 1929 and had retained the post until 1974, was chosen as chairman in the same year. Because he made the club professional in the 1970s, Persson is considered by club officials and supporters as the most significant figure in the club’s history. The club under his direction moved from having no titles in 1937 to having 10 Swedish championships at the conclusion of the 1974 campaign. The team finished third in the Allsvenskan in 1939, nine points behind winners IF Elfsborg, their best ever placing. In 1944, Malmö FF won its first Swedish championship after defeating AIK in the season’s penultimate match in front of 36,000 spectators at the Rsunda. Halmstad BK was defeated 7-0 in the season’s last game.

Malmö FF finished in the top three in the league for the next nine seasons. The club finished second in 1946, 1948, and 1952 while winning the Swedish Championship in 1949, 1950, 1951, and 1953. The team also placed second in 1945 and won the Svenska Cupen in 1944, 1946, 1947, 1951, and 1953. The club went 49 games without losing from 6 May 1949 to 1 June 1951, including 23 straight triumphs.

    IF Elfsborg

Idrottsf reningen Elfsborg is a Swedish professional football team that plays its games in Bors and is a member of the Västergötlands Fotbollförbund. They compete in Swedish football’s Allsvenskan and have spent the majority of their history there. Since 17 April 2005, they have competed at Bor’s Arena, which serves as their home field. A group of 19 kids, all between the ages of 14 and 15, started the club in 1904. On June 26, 1904, Bor’s Fotbollslag was established at Landala (now Knalleland) in Ordenshuset. Carl Larson, the center of attention, practiced wrestling and athletics in addition to football. said that football was not a priority for the city’s main sports club, Bor’s Athletic and Sports Society, in their schedule.

    Club’s name

However, Carl Larson felt that there were too many clubs with the city name Bor’s, which led to the Riksidrottsförbundet changing the name of the organization to the current, IF Elfsborg, in 1906. The name comes from lvsborg County, where people used the earlier, with an E, form of the name rather than the more common modern spelling of lvsborg. The club’s yellow and black emblem and uniform represent these colors. Elfsborg would represent not just a city but an entire region using the colors of the lvsborg regiment. “Vi Tillsammans” is a recurrent club motto (We together)

    Stadium

Bors Arena, the club’s home field, is also known as Elfsborg Fortress because Elfsborg was the Allsvenskan’s top-ranked home team in the 2000s (decade). It is one of only two Allsvenskan teams to have defeated the Swedish national football team (the other team, AIK 1979, won with a score of 3-2 in the Ryavallen opening ceremony). It is also one of only two teams to have won the league as newcomers in 1961; the other team being sters IF in 1968. Elfsborg has frequently competed in the Champions League and Europa League qualifying rounds. They also competed in the 2007-2008 UEFA Cup and won the competition overall in the 2008 UEFA Intertoto Cup. The club has won three national cups and six national championships, the most recent of which was in 2012.

    History

A group of young people created Bor’s Fotbollslag on June 26, 1904. Due to a perceived overabundance of teams with the name “Bors,” the name was changed to IF Elfsborg in 1906. Elfsborg initially gained promotion to Allsvenskan in 1926 after winning the Västsvenska Serien and defeating halmstads BK in the play-off. Sven Jonasson, a striker for Elfsborg who competed in the 1934 and 1938 World Cups, captained a very capable squad throughout the 1930s. Elfsborg first won the Allsvenskan in 1936, and two other championships came soon after (1939 and 1940). Up to seven Elfsborg players represented Sweden at this time in the national squad.

For many years, the club also fielded a bandy team. When it came to bandy, IF Elfsborg won the Västergötland district championship in 1920, 1924, 1927, 1932, 1934, and 1938. Elfsborg relocated from Ramnavallen to the newly built Ryavallen in 1941 to host home matches. As a result of Finland’s participation in the Second World War, they were unable to participate in the first game at the new stadium, which was instead played host to Elfsborg, who defeated Sweden’s national team 2-1.

    Relegation/Promotion

Elfsborg came very close to winning the Allsvenskan once more in the middle of the 1940s, but they consistently placed second. Elfsborg’s heyday ended by the late 1940s, and the team was subsequently relegated in 1954. Elfsborg earned promotion in 1960 following a strong campaign that saw them win 20 of their 22 games. In 1961, the club won the Allsvenskan for the fourth time, making history as the first Swedish side to advance directly from the second tier to the top division. The great Sven Andreasson served as chairman during this time.

Elfsborg finished in second place in 1977, but the club struggled in the years that followed. Elfsborg finished last in Allsvenskan in 1987, and they didn’t make it back to the top division until 1997. Anders Svensson and Tobias Linderoth were among the future Swedish internationals on the team that gained promotion. Elfsborg battled to stay in the Allsvenskan after winning their first two cup championships (in 2001 and 2003).

    History

    Starting off

The club IF Göta became founded on June 15, 1910, but a name dispute prevented them from joining the Riksidrottsförbundet. Karlstad’s-Göta and Stockholm’s-Göta already had the name. Later in 1912, the organization changed its name to IF Gothia, and Riksidrottsförbundet then approved it.

In the Swedish league system, they were eligible for the local league in 1927–1928. IFK Oskarshamn won the league and advanced to the South Swedish league, which included both Smland and Skne. However, IFK Oskarshamn renounced its position and it was given to Kalmar FF, which led to complaints from the clubs in Skne because there were no reliable train connections to Kalmar at the time. However, SJ resolved the issue. In their first contest, they beat Malmö FF 6-0.

    Champions

Kalmar finished third and fifth in the two seasons that followed, 2005 and 2006, respectively. Then, in 2007, they had a fantastic run from start to finish and ultimately finished second behind IFK Göteborg, the winners. They defeated IFK Göteborg 3-0 to win the Svenska Cupen the same season at Fredriksskans in Kalmar, putting the team one point in front of Elfsborg.

With 19 goals scored this season, Patrik Ingelsten also surpassed all other league scorers. The squad once again advanced to the Svenska Cupen final, where they faced IFK Göteborg. This time, however, IFK prevailed 5-4 on penalties after full-time and extra time both finished in a scoreless draw. The club also had a chance to advance to the UEFA Cup group stage. Following impressive performances against Racing FC of Luxembourg and Gent of Belgium, the team faced Dutch team Feyenoord. After winning 1-0 away in Rotterdam, the team lost 1-2 at home, in Bors at Bors Arena, as Fredriksskans failed to meet UEFA requirements, eliminating the team from the competition on away goals.

A group of teenagers aged 14 to 15 founded the club with the goal of creating an organization and competing in the national league system, rather than merely playing football for pleasure. The guys approached Göteborgs Fotbollförbund, the local FA; they had previously played as BK Kick. Since another organization had already registered the name, Bollklubben Häcken became chosen in honor of the enormous hedge (Swedish: häck) that grew surrounding the field where the boys used to practice. On August 2, 1940, the Bollklubben Häcken organization became founded.

    Initial decades

After the first few years, the club only sometimes participated in games, youth championships, and other games, but finally they began to compete at the senior level. The team began to adopt the league structure in 1943, and success came quickly. The club advanced from west seniorclass 4 to seniorclass 1 during the period between 1944 and 1947 by winning its league.

The 1950s got off to a similarly successful start as the 1940s. When the club won Division 3 in 1951, they transitioned from being a local club to being referred to as a “comet team” in the national media. The club won Division 4 in 1950. The team battled for a spot in the Allsvenskan in 1953 but lost to Kalmar FF, and in 1954 the team faced demotion from Division 2. When 18,229 fans attended the club’s Division 3 match against IK Oddevold in 1955, it broke the previous attendance record. BK Häcken finally won the league, but they quickly left again[clarification required] and spent the remainder of the decade competing in Division 3.

The new clubhouse, which is today known as, was inaugurated at the beginning of the 1960s.

Häckensborg. Häcken was a dependable Division 3 side for the most of the decade, but in 1967 they were demoted to Division 4 and had serious internal and financial issues.

Since the 2013 season, AIK has played their home matches in the Nationalarenan (known as Friends Arena until 2023 due to sponsorship considerations), which also serves as the home of the Swedish national football team. By a vote of the club’s members held in 2011, Nationalarenan defeated Tele2 Arena to become the club’s new home, replacing Rsunda, its previous residence up until the 2012 campaign.

    Attendances

The greatest average attendance in Sweden, nearly 21,000, was at AIK in 2006. Over 20,000 people attended AIK events on average in 2007. More often than any other club in Sweden, AIK has had the highest average attendance 39 times [citation needed]. AIK finished the 2013 campaign with the highest average attendance in Scandinavia (18,900). Additionally, that was the inaugural year for the new venue. In the derby against Hammarby in 2018, AIK broke the record for the most tickets sold in an Allsvenskan game two weeks prior to the event.

    Rivalries

Djurgrden, AIK’s major competitor, was established in Stockholm barely three weeks after AIK. The match between the clubs bears the Tvillingderbyt (the Twin derby), and is regarded as the most intense rivalry in Swedish and possibly Nordic football. Additionally, AIK continues to harbor a hostile attitude against Hammarby, the third big Stockholm team. Outside of the Stockholm metropolitan area, IFK Göteborg and Malmö FF are the club’s two main rivals.

    Club culture

The song “Oh we are AIK,” a Swedish-language adaptation of the 1971 song “The Last Farewell,” which was co-written by the British-Kenyan folk musician Roger Whittaker, serves as the club’s entrance hymn and music. A 2002 recording with an arrangement that is somewhat more reminiscent of Elvis Presley’s 1976 version of the song has been used as AIK’s entrance music since the mid-2000s.

    Dundee United Football Club

In the Scottish city of Dundee, there is a professional football team called Dundee United Football Club. Originally founded in 1909 under the name Dundee Hibernian, the club adopted its current name in 1923. Arabs are the moniker for United’s fans, who are also known as The Terrors or The Tangerines.

Since their establishment in 1909, the club has played at their current venue, Tannadice Park. They have also worn tangerine uniforms since August 1969. United participated in the Scottish Premier League (SPL) as inaugural members from its inception in 1998 until the league’s dissolution in 2013 to make way for the SPFL system. However, in 2016, United were demoted from the Scottish Premiership to the Scottish Championship by local rivals Dundee. Later in 2020, they were promoted again.

The club has won the Scottish Cup twice (1994 and 2010), the Scottish Premier Division once (1982–1983), and the Scottish League Cup twice (1979 and 1980). The 1966–67 season marked United’s debut in a European league; from 1976–1978, they participated in 14 consecutive seasons. They also advanced to the 1983–84 European Cup semi-finals as well as the 1987 UEFA Cup finals.

The team also plays its neighborhood rivals, Dundee, in the Dundee derby. It is the closest rivalry in Britain, where Tannadice Park is almost right next door to Dens Park stadium.

    Background

    Foundation (1909–1959)

The club was founded in 1909 under the name Dundee Hibernian, and it began playing at Tannadice Park, often known as Clepington Park since that is the street it is situated on. In 1910, they received a vote to join the Scottish Football League. The club changed its name to Dundee United in an attempt to broaden its appeal after being spared from bankruptcy in October 1923. United won the Second Division championship in 1925 and 1929. They were also promoted and demoted between the top division three times between 1925 and 1932.

Gaining access to the Top division(1959–1971)

When Jerry Kerr took over as manager in 1959, the team made major advancements. In his first year, Kerr’s squad earned promotion and also established themselves as a powerhouse in the top division. They stayed up until 1995.

Lennart Wing, Finn Dossing, Mogens Berg, Finn Seemann, and Orjan Persson were among the notable Scandinavian recruits who joined the playing group under Kerr’s administration.

United also qualified for European play for the first time during this time, defeating Inter-Cities Fairs Cup champion Barcelona in their inaugural European game in 1966.

    Scotland’s Premiership Comeback (2020 – till date)

Dundee United replaced Neilson with Micky Mellon, manager of Tranmere Rovers at the time, before the commencement of the Premiership season. They opened their campaign at home against St. Johnstone in a 1-1 tie. United placed ninth in their first season back in the top division. They then advanced to the Scottish Cup semi-finals, where they fell to Hibernian.

Mellon left the club in May 2021, and Tam Courts took over as manager on June 7. The team’s fourth-place performance in Courts’ debut season as manager of Dundee United was their best since 2014. They also qualified to participate in the third round of the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League. United lost 7-0 away from home in the third qualifying round against AZ Alkmaar, resulting in a 7-1 overall loss—tying the worst defeat in European competition history for a Scottish team.

    Hibernian Football Club

People commonly refer to Hibernian Football Club (/hɪˈbɜːrniən/) as Hibs for short. It is a professional football club situated in the Leith region of Edinburg, Scotland. The Scottish Professional Football League’s Scottish Premiership, the highest division, is where the club competes (SPFL). Members of Edinburgh’s Irish community established the club in 1875, giving it the name “Ireland” after the country. While Hibernian’s Irish ancestry is still represented in the club’s name, colors, and symbol today, the club’s fan base is now more geographically oriented than it is based on race or religion. They also compete in the Edinburgh derby with Heart of Midlothian, their local rivals.

Since the club’s entry into the Scottish Football League in 1893, home games have been held at Easter Road. The club’s name is often abbreviated to Hibs, and the players are also commonly referred to as The Hibees (pronounced /habiz/) and the fans as Hibbies. Another moniker is The Cabbage, which comes from the abbreviated slang term for Hibs (“Cabbage and Ribs”).

    Achievements

Four times, most recently in 1952, Hibernian has won the Scottish league title. When the club used The Famous Five, a renowned attacking line, from 1948 and 1952, three of those four titles were achieved. Three times, in 1887, 1902, and 2016, the club has won the Scottish Cup, the last of which ended a storied drought. Additionally, Hibs has three times won the Scottish League Cup in 1972, 1991, and 2007. In 1955–56, Hibernian, the first British team to compete in European competition, then advanced to the semifinals of the inaugural European Cup. Afterwards in 1960–61, they did the same with the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
